No, that's not true. Here is the text for you:god only said to "bind" isaac on an altar not to sacrafice him.
And he said, Here am
I. He said, Take your son, your only son
Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of
Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering
upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell
you.
He asks for him to sacrifice his son, i.e. kill him, on the altar. The descendants of Isaac being 'the chosen' is not addressed until later in genesis. Abraham is informed his kin will inherit the Earth, he is only informed it will be through Isaac later on. So at the time Abraham had no reason to believe a Ram would appear in his place.
