I don't know if that is such a good example for this type of question. there is a poster called ultimatewebhead, who is a firefighter, and he says that situation in Spider-man 2 is a lot of baloney, that he would have been dead pretty much as soon as he spent any time in the building, and explained why.
and that's the point, life is not like the movies..
It's very true and thanks for the reference.

Now, the only way I would enter a burning building to save someone, would be if i knew I had a good chance of saving both that person, and coming out alive myself, and I really do not know how you would evaluate that situation in real life, you don't have x-ray vision, you don't know how bad the fire is, or are educated , like the firefighter, on what level of fire is survivable, and for what length of time.
This. It makes no sense to put yourself in harms way unless there is a chance for both of you to survive. What good does it do anyone to have two dead people instead of just one? Here's another point...did you start the fire? Did you put the person or persons that are trapped, inside the burning building? If the answer is no (which I hope it is) there is no reason to feel guilty about not trying to save them. Especially if you get close enough to the building and it's too hot to even go inside, the chance of sruvivability for that trapped person is pretty much a 0. It is no joke about how traumatic an incident as losing someone in a fire...I know, I've seen it and there's nothing movie-like about it. First rule though, protect yourself.
