Logan X-24 (Spoilers)

LOL the title of the thread is pretty much a huge rotten spoiler, glad I saw the movie before this thoughtless a-hole move of a thread emerged.:funny:

Loved it, Wolverine without a soul incarnate, a pure killing machine, everything he and Laura fear and fight against becoming.

A Mod should merge this thread with the spoiler thread.

Regarding the bolded, that's why I loved his inclusion as well. Logan has fought all his life against becoming something like X24.

You should really change the title. Not everyone had the chance to watch the movie opening weekend.

It was a huge suprise for me, and his first appearance was a huge shock. I loved every single second of his downright scary presence. The movie turned into a horror flick at the farm, and I freakin' loved it.

What a vicious mother****er.

 yeah that farm scene got me, I actually thought [BLACKOUT]Wolverine killed Charles[/BLACKOUT] for a second.

I loved both Donald Pierce (what a hate bastard he was - great performance by Boyd Holbrook) and X-24, so... no. :woot:

Agreed again, I thought Pierce was great, really hatable.

The thing is Omega Red could have played both of the roles of X-24 and Pierce. He could have already hunt down X-23 from the start of the movie while working as a second hand to Zander. And that wouldn't take any of the screentime of the 3 leads.

And it would have been fan service. Nothing in this story lends itself to including Omega Red, other than pleasing fans who’ve just been wanting to see him. I’d love to see a Wolverine/Omega Red fight on film...but it just wouldn’t have made sense in this story, so I’m glad they left him out. Again, it would have been nothing but fan service and it would have distracted from the story they were telling.

X-24 was Wolverine fighting what they tried to turn him into, and realizing at the end of his life that he was better than everything they ever did to him, and that he instilled that humanity in another.

Omega Red would have just been a distraction...

A brain washed Sabertooth or Omega Red would have been awesome. There was lots of potential there but it's a shame they went the way of the clone

After watching it with my friends Friday night, I mentioned they easily could've swapped X24 out with Omega Red, and the script wouldn't have to change much, just the FX budget. Even his Death Spores would've made more sense with the adamantine poisoning speeding up so rapidly in the 2nd half.

I still really enjoyed the movie, regardless.

Me too. [BLACKOUT]I was like "what the **** are you doing, Logan? I get freeing him from his pain, but no, dude. You're going insane! No!" And Logan's subsequent "It wasn't me" broke my heart.[/BLACKOUT]

But yeah, the entire farm scene was just insane!

Logan has already found his humanity and a place in the world before this movie so that's not really something he needs to do again. That's why the movie starts with showing that he's living his life trying to make things better for his friend, because he can't deal with the other solution to the danger he poses. That's very far from the directionless, rage-filled, and anti-social Wolverine from the past.

He's never 100% at ease and content with his life, but that's what the story of his fatherly bond with X-23 is about, and that's what finally gets him there just before the end. The X-24 fight is just a somewhat heavy-handed metaphor for what he did in the past as I see it.

Omega Red is one of Logan's greatest adversaries and he was in a super soldier project just like Logan was. So he still could have served as a metaphor to what Logan could have become.

The film has several plot elements that reflect today's political climate. A secret association with Russia wouldn't have been too out of place.

As others have said and I said in another thread, Omega Red's death factor could have tied into the poisoning of mutants through household products. Also his tendrils would have brought some scary visuals that haven't been seen in the franchise before.

I think his initial appearance worked well. It took my brain a second to process what was going on (essentially, something seemed off but I couldn't tell what). I thought it might have been a dream sequence before I realized it was happening for real. That part was great.

I still liked him after that mainly because I appreciated the contrast between Logan, who was weak and slow, and 24 who was vintage Wolverine. Chekhov's Adamantium Bullet was the obvious solution from the beginning, but I thought it hit the notes that needed to be hit.

By the time he shows up I'd forgotten the foreshadowing. It was gut wrenching.

Whether it's still canon or not, looking back to Origins I still remember the last line Sabertooth said to Wolverine, "Nobody gets to kill you but me."

Would have been pretty cool to see that played out in Logan

In fact, wasn't Liev Schreiber rumored to appear in Logan? I remember a series of tweets sometime last year hinted at that

Apparently they thought about including sabertooth in the movie but it would have been around the casino portion of the movie with them getting help from him for some reason.

Spot on, these were my feelings through the whole thing.

If you guys want a new name for this thread then ask a mod to do it.

It's interesting that so many of us thought Xavier's death scene felt like a dream. It's actually pretty true to life, when something shocking and/or horrific happens. Things get kind of hazy and there's this muted "Wait, is this actually happening?" feeling takes over for a few seconds.

I'm sure that was an unintended side effect, but I think it's neat.

To me X-24 was another Weapon XI/Barakapool, just a more boring one. He wasn't really a character as such, just an opponent. There's not a lot you can get invested in as a villain.

Another flaw for me was at around the time he was introduced I felt the movie was winding down and whilst it picked up a bit later it never quite had the same energy it had previously.

Plus the resemblance to Liev's Sabertooth wasn't so much a cool nod, but a sad reminder of some of the missed opportunities of the film.

Nice so in a few years we'll see Hugh reprise the role only this time non-mute and much more fleshed out? :woot:

The story of a misunderstood rage clone who finds love in the unlikeliest of places

Definitely my least favourite thing about this new movie.

Didn't like it. I dont like the general idea of hero fighting his copy/clone/whatever, would have been way better to have Victor instead (Nobody gets to kill you but me!")
