Sequels X-Men: First Class

A few more details from Variety. It seems as they're throwing out Josh Schwartz's script and writing a new one based on a detailed treatment that Singer wrote.

That just makes me even more excited!

This is great news...I hope that this really comes together. As for who I would like to see as the First Class, I'm thinking (besides the obvious Cyclops, Jean, Beast and Storm) I would include Emma and another male member to make the team even gender wise. I think in the past 25 years there have been a lot of X-Men who come and go on the team, but very few who have reached Iconic status...Gambit (whether you like him or not) is one of them, and I would argue that thanks to Grant Morrison and Joss Whedon, Emma Frost is the other. You aren't going to waste a movie character on the likes of Marrow, Maggot, Stacy X or Pixie, unless it is in the background. Gambit was already used in Wolverine, although I suppose Singer could use him in First Class too (essentially in the "bad boy" role Wolverine played in the original film) but if not Gambit I suggest Banshee or Havok.

As for Villains, I agree Sinister makes the most sense. Like others have pointed out...in the first movie, Xavier seems to already be aware of experimentation on mutants. And dissecting mutants would be something both Xavier and Magneto would be against. Maybe they have a falling out over the course of the movie on how to do deal with Sinister? Not sure.

The big question remains...who do you get to play Xavier and Magneto? Sure, they used de aging technology in X3, but from what I understand that process is VERY pricey (and this is Fox we are talking about here) Will they spend it on actors for a whole movie not a 5 minute scene? And if Bryan Singer is coming back, wouldn't he WANT his two actors to return? Or will he be ok casting younger, cheaper guys? Having the original actors in those two roles would be a plus I think.

There is a lot of opportunity to correct some oversights in the original series here. Now Singer can finally cast an actress of his choosing to play Storm for example (Halle Berry was a studio mandate since they needed a "name") and Cyclops can be fully fleshed out. I see only potential here.

In the film, Xavier and Magneto will be twentysomething, and the film sounds similar in construct to the J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek."

Looks like we'll be getting a new Xavier and Magneto. Let the casting begin!

Deal was made after the studio sparked to a detailed treatment he wrote for the film. Jamie Moss was hired to write the script, and the studio will move aggressively.

The fact that Byran has been thinking about this for a long time, and wrote out a treatment and pitched it to Fox, says to me how much he wants to make this film.

When LSD talked about the film before, she made it sound like a "fun" movie that wasn't all that serious. Sounds like the previous "Harry Potter-esque" script was thrown out, and a more serious story has taken it's place.

"This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn,"

So they merged First Class with the Magneto movie. Which is what we were all saying they should do from the beginning.

"There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain."

I really hope it's a mutant villain and not another human one. I think Sinister is a strong possibility.


Overall, I'm stoked. It all sounds very promising. And, maybe I'm just biased, but I am just so glad to see Scott and Jean on screen again. I'm certain that films like Star Trek, Iron Man, and TDK have inspired Singer, and force him to push the film to it's limits. Hopefully FOX finally gives him the budget he deserves. The budget they had no problem giving to Ratner and Hood.

He better bring his own writers on board to do the final draft...

hmmm....seems like he is going to do his version of Magneto's origin but also Xavier's . That could be interesting. O must say I was kind of fond of the young X-Men idea though if only because we get the teams aspect back. Either way just happy to see Singer back in any capacity.

Just one problem that was brought up in the past. Who in the hell is the villian/threat going to be?

I said this awhile ago but who can they use as a villian that won't make their fight with Magneto in the first one look like a piece of cake(since they seemed to have trouble with it). Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse are definitely out of the picture, only decent one would be the Hellfire Club.

Magneto HAS to be a player. Just in terms of getting the school straight. Not saying do the WW 2 flash backs and spend 30 minutes on Cerebro, but he needs to be in there. And I don't think they'll be able to de-age you know who's for the whole film so just hire new actors, one you can potentially use in the future. I say go Pheonix, Hellfire Club, maybe some Sinister mixed in. Those are my top two choices.

Oh, wow. I was wondering what they were going to do about Schwartz's script. The treatment sounds interesting, and I'm excited to see the further development of Magneto and Xavier's relationship, as that's always been one of my favorite aspects of the movies.

Wolverine most likely wont be in First Class... as seen in X1. There were already lots of classes when Wolvie joined the X-men...

I actually dig the Jason angle. It makes sense because they really didn't deviate from the movie cannon in Wolverine in terms of the main characters, spare the glorified cameos. I think they will want to build off of something already established then go too far outside the box. I still expect a big time villain other than Magneto. Then again, if they are going for actors that young for Magneto/Xavier the kids will still be kids, so I wouldn't bank on teenagers obviously. Maybe they think they can get a whole trilogy out of this.

I would love to see the Sentinels. Some people claim it wouldn't make sense to have such a big threat early in the X-Men career but I think it makes perfect sense considering the Sentinels appear in the danger room. If Sentinels were to appear in X4 that means the X-Men either had to predict the creation or have invented the idea of Sentinels themselves.

Plus, if the X-Men fought Sentinels as teenagers it would make sense that they would use Sentinels in a training simulation for the young X-Men.

My two cents to a possible story.

I seriously think that if they combine the classic Marvel stories to Ultimate stories...Must be a good movie.

They can introduce Xavier and his school with the first students: Cyclops, Beast, Storm, Jean, Emma and, why not?, Banshee. They are also other students but Xavier want that other students studying while these 6 chars learn to fight and put together a team called X-Men.

Meanwhile Mr. Sinister has vision of Apocalypse that explain if wants live forever they must kill 5 mutants. Sinister kill three mutants (maybe Dazzler, Banshee, Polaris?). The X-Men are in search for the truth. When Sinister kill Havok, Cyclops wants revenge. Sinister wants kill Cyclops for last.

It's good if Gambit works for Sinister as a "Marauder" but he don't know what Sinister doing with the mutants he kidnap. After fight, Gambit knows the truth and help X-Men to find Sinister and fight him.

Before Cyclops kill him, Xavier stops and Sinister is arrested. Like in Ultimate comics in the end we hear that Sinister has vision (again) of Apocalypse and these "monster" ask him to commit suicide.

Emma? Pfft...
