Sequels X-Men: First Class

I think the general audience would have been happy with any Wolverine story. The comics fans know the real Weapon X story, but judging from the number of people at the I saw in the theater that were practically diving under the seats during the Weapon X scene of Wolverine (and I saw that 3x in the theater), most of them didn't know that story outside of what they'd already seen in X1 and X2.

If they'd gone into the Japan story (and I still think they should have used that alternate ending in X3 with Logan at the bar and then went into the Japan spinoff), I think the general audience would have been fine with it.

Most non comic-reading people I know were excited for Wolverine because they wanted to see "how he got the claws." I think they'd ultimately be fine with it but the point is Onion said "everyone" wanted to see the Japan story. Personally, I preferred to see the Weapon X story. Even if the Japan story is better in the comics the Weapon X story had more potential for a film, IMO.

I don't think most non-comics reading fans even know there was a Japan story. When I saw it opening night we got the Japan ending after the credits, and I heard one person saying "I don't get it, what happens in China?"

That's kinda my point. The Weapon X story is far more well-known then the Japan story, so I don't think the majority of people were anticipating the Japan story and were disappointed mainly because the movie wasn't telling the story they wanted to hear.

Watching the x 2 weapon x flashback scenes if singer directed wolverine it would of been so good .It would not of had useless characters for the sake of it like Wolverine Origins did.Singer even said on one of the x men dvds that when adding new characters he wants to make sure they are not just thrown in for the hell of it. But are unique from the other mutants and advance the storyline some way or another.

Not to mention it would of been much darker with a better script and better acted which is what wolverine lacked. Not to mention having bone claws in my opinion messes up continuity since Striker said "Wolverine you were always an animal i just gave you claws".

STAR TREK WAS AMAZING. :(

If First Class is half the movie Star Trek was, I'll be satisfied. Though, I'd love for it to be better.
I loved Star Trek. If Singer is capable, there's no reason why he can't make as good a film with First Class.

Star Trek was my favorite movie this year. And I've been an old-school Star Trek fan forever, they just did everything right in that one.

I've heard Singer reference Star Trek a few times in regards to First Class - if he's using that as a reference, I'm totally fine with that.
Good sign!

Since X3 came out I don't really care too much about continuity. In fact I want them to rip it up & change some of the things they did in that one lol.

I have the feeling that this movie will be done before Wolverine 2.

Bryan already gave a treatment to Fox and now there is a writer, so a first script could be ready in a few months :wow:

If Fox respects the 3 years frame time, we could end getting First class on 2012.

I hope it wont be later.

I also think First Class will come before Wolverine 2. It seems further along in development.

Though I would prefer if they broke the 3 year frame time now that Wolverine is going into his own string of sequels separate from X-Men.

Like when you repeatedly said he was signed on to do X3, when nearly everyone else here was pointing out that he wasn't? (and no, he wasn't)

I think whatever personal issues you have with Singer are getting in the way of whatever you think of his movies. And that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but I think everyone is else is being totally fair with liking what he did already - and being happy that he's back. I've heard horror stories about the guy too, but I like his movies.

for the record..... ive never said singer is a bad director, nor have i said i didn't like his films (aside from superman returns) and i've stated that several times. I was mistaken on the legalities of his development contract... woopdie do. my point was still valid, and if im not mistaken he did even break the development contract... he basically abandonded ship and hopped a new one...

I hope so. They need to give Wolverine a rest.

I think they should as well. If the studio lets its other potential franchises fall by the wayside, like Fantastic Four (although there have been talks of a reboot, I believe), it may as well further develop the X-Men franchise beyond one movie every three years.

No, 20th Century Fox terminated Singer's development deal after he signed onto Superman Returns. It wouldn't make much sense for Singer to terminate his own development deal, if he even could, while he was still working on House for Fox.

I so aaaaaagggggggrrrrreeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since X1 ppl have been craving for X-Men (non)fan boys/girls...If the "Twilight" franchise can pull out 3 films back 2 back also "Harry Potter" why not X-Men? Fox need to realize they can bring in hell a $, if they get 2 or 3 strong stories 4 possible sequels and make a killing...

would be great if Fox did a x-movie each two years...

but after Wolverine lower numbers, I doubt they shott two movies back to back.

Wolverine has made over $450 million worldwide. It's hardly low, but it's not exactly Pirates of the Caribbean numbers either.

xmen first class in 2011, wolverine in 2012, then X4 in 2013 :hehe:

I was just about to shut the door on even coming in here or caring about any future X-Men movies. However, Fox (those evil bastards) knew what would make me come back...and that is Singer.

I am now hyped for this movie and I can't wait to see how it unfolds. Singer, please do a good job!

I agree that Star Trek was the best movie this year, it was even better than Avatar. BUT I doubt that even Singer could make a First Class movie to rival that level of yummy goodness. :(

Lets see, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Harry Potter And The Half Baked Prince, Sherlock Holmes, G I Joe, X-Men Origins Wolverine... Im gonna have to say its a split between Star Trek and Sherlock Holmes...

Ha an x-men forum detailing there fandom of the x-men movie universe yet dont consider X-MEN oRIGINS wOLVERINE there favorite movie of the year. HAhahahah

I don't think it's anyone's favourite movie of the year.

If First Class is anywhere close to Star Trek in quality I will be a happy camper.

If he can make it like Star Trek but In line with established film Contunity
we are In for a great ride.Star Trek found the right team to do it that could
appeal to Trekkers and non fans.

Considering they already hired a writer for Wolverine 2 before Singer signed on
My bet Is especilly If jack the Giant Killer Is his next film Is Wolverine 2
for summer 2011,and First Class for summer 2013

everyone seems to love star trek, but lets take the plot of the new star trek movie and put in the x-men characters and see if you would like this for a x-men movie

X-Men First Class
In 1975, the US army special team is investigating a lightning storm in Africa when a mutant, the Shadow King, emerges from within it and attacks the team. Shadowking, demands to meet with Captain Christopher Summers of the Special Team. Christopher is questioned by Shadowking. When Christohper professes no knowledge of the mutant known as Apocalpyse, Shadowking kills him and orders the Team's destruction. Acting Captain Charles Xavier orders the team evacuated rescuing anyone along the way including a young Storm, Xavier is crippled trying to fight the shadowking but is saved by eric lenshire. From this moment on Xavier vowes to try and educate mutants and start his school.
Several years later, a young Warren Worthington 3rd hits puberty and learns he is growing wings and is ridiculed for being half-human. As an adult, Warren declines to join his fathers business and joins Xaviers Academy. Elswhere, Scott Summers has become a reckless but intelligent young man. After a bar fight, Scott meets Xavier, who challenges him to emulate his father's heroism and join Xaviers school, which he doesnt at first but remembers that he was rescued by Xavier from stryker over a year ago and owes him a debt so he joins Xaviers School. Three years later, Scott draws Warrens's ire by cheating during the Danger room test, which Warren programmed. During Scotts meeting over the matter, Xavier receives a distress signal from Eric Lenshire, and with the Magneto's Alcoytes out of range the cadets are mobilized to help Magneto in Wundagor. Henry McCoy smuggles Scott aboard the Blackbird; while on board, Scott learns that a lightning storm jn wundagor was reported shortly before the distress signal was received. Scott recognizes the events as being similar to what happened the day his father died, and warns Xavier that the team is heading into a trap. The X-Men arrives at wundagor to find the alcoyltes destroyed and the shadowking destroying the city. The Shadowking attacks the X-Men and Shadowking orders Xavier to surrender himself. Xavier agrees, promoting Warren to team captain and Scott to second in command. En route to the shadowking, Scott and Bobby Drake head towards the lighting storm using there ability they are able to disabling it. However, however it had already caused alot of devistation to wundagor. The Shadowking and Xavier captive disappear
After arguing with Warren, Scott is marooned at wundagor. Whilst there Scott meets Jason Stryker who informs him of who Shadowking is and Who Apocalypse is, Apocalpyse is an all powerful mutant that had many followers but Shadowking wanted to overthrow him. But Apocalpyse entered the lazarus chamber to be awoken inthe future. Shadowking has been hunting him down ever since.
Jason insists Scott must become leader of the x-men and the two walk to a nearby mutant friendly outpost. They meet Quicksilver a local mutant who helps Scott rejoin the X-Men. Scott deliberately enrages Warren, forcing Warren to acknowledge that he is emotionally compromised thereby forfeiting command to Scott. The crew devises a plan to ambush the Shadowking by hiding behind a storm created by a young Storm Once there, Scott and Warren fly towards Shadowking. Scott rescues Xavier while Warren destroys the device that allows the shadowking to create those storms. The blackbird arrives and picks up Scott and Xavier, and warren. Xavier is able to link minds with the shadowking and is able to trap him forever out of his body, saving the day
Back at the xavier instatue Scott is promoted to captain of the X-Men and Xavier retires from leading the team.

What if they do a ripoff of Star Trek and have a character (e.g. Bishop) travel into the past from post-X3 (change it so that his power is to time travel into the past) and have him warn the young X-Men about the future (with the cure, mutants who refuse to take it are now more persecuted than ever), resulting in them changing the timeline? It'd effectively reboot the franchise without actually 'rebooting' it.

But then everyone would be saying...hey, didn't they just do this with Star Trek?

I think the best way to do something like that in the x-men world, would be to have it all be the vision of one of the psychic characters (instead of time travel)
