Sequels X-Men: First Class

I agree. I just finished watching all 3 movies (I got the blu-ray trilogy box set for Christmas :yay: ), and I feel like the time to continue that story has really passed. They killed way too many characters to make any sense trying to explain bringing them all back at this point.
I re-watched X1 last night. Gonna try and watch X2 tonight.

There really is a lot of potential with these prequels.

I just think there’s a lot, and I mean A LOT, working against X-Men 4 both on the business and creative ends of the spectrum. I don’t see a particularly good story coming out of it, and I don’t think Fox sees a good investment coming out of it.

I think so too. They've been on TV so much that it's been a while since I've watched the movies in their entirety, I had forgotten how good they were.

I know there is a lot going against the possibility of an X4, but I would still rather have the franchise move forward. Especially now that Singer is on board and I actually feel this series actually might have a chance of producing some good movies again.

Well, your first mistake there is assuming that they'd try to get everyone back. All they really need are the one who survived and would have logically stuck around after X3. It's not like they have any shortages of characters that they can use instead.

But logically, they left it open for most of them to come back - Magento was getting his powers back, Xavier was alive in another body, no one saw Cyclops die so that left the door open for him to come back (and considering the fan uproar when he was killed off in the first place, they could find a way to bring him back somehow). Jean can come back, Rogue's cure most likely didn't take.

A lot of it was done in a 'they'll be back' type of way, so just leaving them dead in an X4 wouldn't make sense either.

I would love an X4, but I think the time for it has passed and I doubt it will happen. Let them move forward with the spinoffs and prequels for now.

Fox probably wants X3 numbers, so after seeing Wolverine lower results, they realized that with a Bryan quality movie, they could get back part of X3 audience.

I think they have taken a great decision, signing Bryan again. The movie will have X1/X2 quality, Im sure will love it more than X3, if it has more drama elemenst, and less action or quick pacing.

X3 had action? It was a total snooze-fest.

Bryan Singer will not change the problem we had with X3 and Wolverine movie... Firstly i want to protest why people hate these two movies...

The first thing i would like to state is this, X3 brought a conclusion to the end of a saga... alot of things was going to happen regardless of weather Singer or Ratner was in charge. With both Phoenix would of been there and yes Phoenix would die at the end. Because of James Masdens limited time, he could only do a cameo so the only plausable way to do a phoenix related story and not have so much Cyclops is to kill him. This is not the fault of the director. So as you can see logically what happend with x3 is that they were suffering because of there own success and well fans had too high an expectation...

Now on to Wolverine movie... i thought it was pretty good. Not what hte fans expected but again unless it is basically word by word copied from the comic they wil never be happy. There are two reasons why people hated this movie. One being the altered history of wolverine.... yet people are forgetting that every friggin mutant in the x-men trilogy has an altered history... its the movie universe not a comic book universe of the x-men franchise. Then there is the fact that this is an Origin story where most Origin stories appear to be overal Crude when they first come out only to be supperseeded by it's overbudgeted sequel...

Same with Wolverine... the movie that EVERYONE wants to see is Wolverine in Japan. But we cant start a Prequel with just that. Firstly wolverine wasnt born in Japan, then theres the question how he got to Japan... and where the metal claws came from. So the first movie had to be a origin in order to tell Wolverine in Japan and possible Wolverine 3 which will more likely be against Omega Red and Hydra.

So how does this effect First Class?

Well i'ved looked at it this way... It will be known as the Singer Trilogy... First Class, X1 then X2... so in a way, you could say First Class is the first movie that ends with x2... As we get to see how Cerebro was built in first class, only to find what could happen if it went wrong in x2.

But that is all. Rememer First Class is only as good as the writer that writes a story, the actors that perform the task and how well they manage to fit this in with the rest of the genre.

and if you want some kind of proof that it is not the directors fault the movie was bad well... Bryan Singer directed Superman Returns... nough said.

Singer's plan was for Phoenix to become a god, so no Phoenix would not have died either way.

Marsden could have shown up for the final scene after being incapacitated in the beginning. There is no excuse for just killing his character off.

Most people wanted to see Weapon X, not the Japan story. That's why they even made the movie, because everyone wanted to see all the stuff hinted to in X1 and X2. Just because you wanted to see the Japan story more does not mean it's what most people wanted, much less everyone.

But it is Singer's fault that Superman Returns was bad. It was his decision to basically remake Superman the Movie with stalker dead beat dad Superman added in.

Ian McKellen filmed X2 in 2 weeks. There was absolutely no reason for Cyclops to be killed off.

ACTUALLY... Majority of fans wanted to see Japan story. More so than Weapon X story... Donner had recently expressed this in an interview. But she realised that although fans wanted the Japan story first the would still need to approach the weapon x one first.

This is 100% not true. The general audience doesn't even know anything about Wolverine in Japan. The only thing hinted in X1 and X2 was Weapon X. The general audience wanted Weapon X. As for the actual fans, Weapon X has been adapted in practically every cartoon and other adaptation with Wolverine to date while the Japan story is often left out. It is clear the Weapon X story is way more popular with both fans and general viewers alike.

Like I said, just because you wanted the Japan story does not mean everybody wanted a movie about it over the Weapon X story.

Completely agreed 100%

I think the general audience would have been happy with any Wolverine story. The comics fans know the real Weapon X story, but judging from the number of people at the I saw in the theater that were practically diving under the seats during the Weapon X scene of Wolverine (and I saw that 3x in the theater), most of them didn't know that story outside of what they'd already seen in X1 and X2.

If they'd gone into the Japan story (and I still think they should have used that alternate ending in X3 with Logan at the bar and then went into the Japan spinoff), I think the general audience would have been fine with it.

That was definitely an awesome Christmas present. :hehe:

I watched all 4 of them today. Started with X1 this morning, and I just finished watching Wolverine a little while ago. They look great on blu-ray! :woot:

Yeah, I have them all on bluray. I haven't gotten Wolverine yet, but I did enjoy that movie for what it was.

I got the Wolverine blu-ray the week it was released. It's too short and it should have been a lot better, but I enjoyed it anyway.

I watched X2 through the credits today and noticed that one of the captured X-kids is starring in that supposedly dreadful revival of Bye Bye Birdie on Broadway right now.

Dreadful is a nice way of putting it!

I actually haven't seen Wolverine since theaters. My blu-ray player broke. :(

I haven't seen it, but I haven't heard a good thing about it yet!

That's no fun! Wolverine, Up, and Star Trek were 3 of the reasons I finally broke down and bought a blu-ray player this year.

STAR TREK WAS AMAZING. :(

If First Class is half the movie Star Trek was, I'll be satisfied. Though, I'd love for it to be better.

Star Trek was my favorite movie this year. And I've been an old-school Star Trek fan forever, they just did everything right in that one.

I've heard Singer reference Star Trek a few times in regards to First Class - if he's using that as a reference, I'm totally fine with that.
