Everyone is looking for a reboot these days because they were unhappy with what they got...
But you miss out on one big fact about the industry is that although FOX made the x-men... whose to say any other studio would had done anything different?
The way i see it, Fox had a controlling say into making the movie, Marvel had a controlling say into the movie, the Director who wants to make something truely original has to fight between the two, plus fans and his own concious.
What you got to remember is this...! for a superhero movie they fall into two catergories, ones that need big buget and those that dont... Good example of this was Punisher that was a good movie, lower budget but it didnt need a bigger budget now? thats because as a superhero movie the special effects were not needed as compaired to the likes of spiderman or x-men or even fantastic four.
Out there, who are the big studios that could make such films as x-men? Hmmm... Hmmm well i can think of 5 - Sony, Universal, Disney, 20th Centry Fox & Paramount - theres probably a few more but my point is.... Each one of these studios would of done the same as Fox has done with the x-men... Because they want to make money off it. For a movie like X-Men a smaller budget is just simply impossible to produce at a smaller studio... Ok ok so why not have Marvel Entertainment make the movie.... well although they are going from strength to strength they are still largely considered a smaller studio. Plus if they really had the money to make the movie would they have sold the company to Disney?
Now the way i look at it is this... The fans are too damanding, and a little OCD as (everything has to be like it is from the comic books)
Picture this... its the year 2000. You cast largely nobodies to take on the roles of the x-men, why? because with nobodies you geniuely get the oppertunity to make sequels and non of the actors are tied up making it difficult. But in order to make this kind of movie you have to throw in one or two known actors like Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan.
What happend was Hugh Jackman became Wolverine, the rest of the cast became known for the respective x-men roles and the movie was such a success we now have 4 movies.
So when people go on about reboot i want a reboot, there doing it all wrong. If there doing it all wrong, then how are they making so much money off it.
And i ask the question
Is the reason you want a reboot because X-Men the movie franchise wasnt as you expected but you feel that it can be saved some how? I have yet to see a good enough answer to this question.
So be happy with what you got because although nobody liked Bret Ratners take on x-men 3, well... it was a hell of alot better than Batman & Robin
