X-Men Origins: Wolverine Official Thread

^^ Damn! I really am curious as to why they just couldn't leave it on. Most people, like myself, will be buying the game on May 1st, not playing the demo. Well, I'm sure there will be people who are playing the demo, but still they shouldn't realease it the day the game actually comes out.

Damn, cant wait to play the Demo.

What if it sucks?

There should be an achievement/trophy for making it through the game using only guns. Call it "Gears of Wolverine" or something. :)
Oh god. No offense, but I hope no one at rocksteady thinks like you do. If you've even read one great Wolverine comic, you know Logan spits out heavily armed black ops teams for breakfast. As a playable character you'll actually have to be like Wolverine though, as in, not taking a bunch of shotgun shells to the face, so it can be realistic and hard at the same time. The reason Wolvie gets so effed up is because he heals, but outside of his bones, he's as easily hurt as joe schmoe. But with him, it's superficial.

But Wolverine can be killed....

I didn't want to be super comic-book-nerdy, but you're right. Oxygen deprivation of any kind, enough physical trauma over a small period of time, decapatation, probably ripping his arms and/or legs off, lots of things could kill Logan. But it's very hard to actually do any of them, becuase he never gives anyone the chance.

A demo is out? What's that, a leak? lol Coz I thought it goes out the same day as the game.

I've read plenty of Wolverine comics. But the point of achievements is to make you play the game with specific goals in mind. If you don't want to get an all-shooting achievement, don't play the game that way. I think it'd be a fun little break from the ordinary, which will obviously be slicing people up like Wolverine would.

Think you meant Raven. Rocksteady is developing the Batman game.

IGN: What alternate costumes are in the game?

Dan Vondrak: The unlockable costumes are the Classic Blue and Yellow, the Brown and Tan, and the black X-Force uniform. And those are just the unlockables -- as the story progresses Wolverine changes outfits a lot to match that point in the story -- tank top and jeans, jacket, jungle military outfit, nothing in Weapon X, well... almost nothing. However if you choose to play with one of the unlockables, we'll keep you in the unlockable, we won't switch to the other story outfits.

IGN: Why did you pick those?

Dan Vondrak:
The Blue and Yellow and Brown and Tan--those are such huge favorites to the guys on the team. We all grew up with one of those 2 outfits being the Wolverine we knew and loved. For the third skin I wanted to do something that people hadn't seen much and our art lead (a huge Wolverine fan) brought up the X-Force skin and it was a great suggestion. It looked very bad-ass and we had seen it mentioned by the fans on the forums.

IGN: How did you decide which costumes to use?

Dan Vondrak:
It started here at Raven -- what do we as fans want to see? And then we looked back on all the feedback we got back from our previous X-Men/Marvel games -- which Wolverine skins got the best response from the gamers and fans. We dug through forums on game websites, marvel.com, etc... looking for more thoughts on the costumes. And it was clear we had to go with the classic yellow/blue, brown/tan -- it was a pretty heated battle for that third spot.

IGN: Will they be used in cutscenes? Will they take damage and fall away like regular Wolverine's tank top?

Dan Vondrak:
Every unlockable costume takes damage and gets blown away--that's half the fun of using them. It's like a comic seeing Wolverine in the blue and yellow, half blown away with his ribs exposed. Good news is, we allow them to regenerate, unlike Wolverine's other cloths in the game. That was a big point for me -- I love seeing the damage done to them, but you picked the costume to see Wolverine in it -- so it will regenerate after his muscle and skin does.

Different costume, same ability to gut people.
The costume you're wearing will appear in a lot of the cutscenes but not all of them. Any of the scenes we had to make pre-rendered movies will have Wolverine in the appropriate costume for that part of the story.

IGN: What costume did you want to get in the game but couldn't?

Dan Vondrak:
Zombie Wolverine!!! I wanted this so bad. One of the marketing guys, actually bought me a Zombie Wolverine statue when we were at Comic Con -- he knew how disappointed I was that we couldn't get it in.

IGN: Why couldn't you?!

Dan Vondrak:
It's one of those weird situations dealing with the different universes and storylines inside Marvel properties. I was upset about it at first, but I give props to Marvel for taking so much care with their characters -- I think it's part of what has helped them become such a force in the movies and other non-comic media.

IGN: So Dan, how do you unlock them?

Dan Vondrak:
We wanted to do something a little more with unlocking the costumes, then just a message that you unlocked it. So we've got this pretty cool system where you find "action figures" hidden throughout the levels. Each action figure is dressed in one of the unlockable costumes, once you've found enough of each type you unlock a special challenge map. In this challenge map you must fight a Wolverine dressed up in the uniform you are trying to unlock! So it's you against a Wolverine with all the moves and powers you have in a bloody beat down, just ripping each other apart. If you can beat the Wolverine, then you unlock the costume. It is a lot of fun fighting another Wolverine.

It does. I think they might have made his face (while in the other costumes) look different than Jackmans on puropose. Same thing with the one unlockable costume in Superman Returns. If I remember correctly the unlockable Golden Age costume didn't look like Routh. I don't see why they would do that, but it seems like that's what they did here.

Ah yea that might be it. I was hoping to see Jackmans face in the classis yellow/blue brown/tan.

Same here. It would have been cool to see Jackmans face in the classic costumes. It still looks cool though and I like all 3 comic costumes they included. Those 3 are enough for me, but I wonder if they'll release any others on LIVE and PSN at a later date. Maybe they'll also release the "exclusive" GameStop (Game.co.uk has it as well and it seems like it's a download code) Weapon X Arena.

Already got that part. But Logan shouldn't even have that ability in the first place. If you want to shoot stuff, don't play a Wolverine game.

Man...they really seem to understand what must be done in a game.
It's exactly what I'd do if I was in charge. Specially the Wolverine vs Wolverine to unlock costumes.

(Best picture I could find was of an action figure)

That looks pretty cool. I'll be using the comic costumes alot.
I think they'll release the Weapon X arena on XBL/PSN eventually, maybe it'll be like the Halo 3 Mythic Maps that came with the Halo Wars Limted Edition. People who pre-ordered got it a couple weeks before anyone else. I don't think Ravensoft would go through the trouble of making it, just for a couple of people.

I think it should be a Weapon X/Costume Pack arena. I'd like to see "Cowboy" Logan, Patch & Ultimate/Movie (They're basically the same).

Maybe they can add two new characters who follow the same style of game play Deadpool (Wade Wilson with classic, Weapon X & Ultimate costumes. Maybe they can re-add his level*s*) & Sabretooth (Liev with classic, Ultimate & something else).

^^ IMO, that suit looks really cool. I think Wolvie is currently using it in the Messiah X story.

Yea thats gonna be really cool. Its gonna be great to tear into Wolverine as Wolverine. Awesome.

Wow, awesome man. I cant wait for reviews. Is the Uncaged version gonna be released everywhere? Or only at gamestop?
