Yeah, the CBM landscape has changed to the point where I just don't think Fox has what it takes to keep up.
It depends on what your expectations are. A billion? Then no, it won't keep up. But Apocalypse showed some tremendous resilience in China, when faced with the behemoth opening of Warcraft. I think the brand has room to grow in China, while it may stagnate elsewhere.
It has also been a weird year domestically. Dr. Strange may be the first movie to make between $200 and $300 domestically. And we are in Nov.
Origins
During their First Host on Earth, one million years ago,[2] the Celestials collected the Wanderers,[14] a tribe of Homo erectus.[11]
Gammenon the Gatherer collected the ape-men and send them to Ziran the Tester who mutated them to have an unstable genome, creating the Deviants[10] (Homo descendus),[15] a race with various mutations, who were then released and went hiding in the caves. With other subjects, Nezarr the Calculator then created the Eternals[10] (Homo immortalis),[2] hairless, upright tall beings able to tap into the cosmic power. They were themselves released, flying out of the Celestials' laboratory-ship. Finally, Oneg the Prober created a latent gene for the expansion of human potential
No. Recently an interview with Ryan and one of the screenwriters, pretty much said it that it's their own thing, and don't want to merge that much with the world of X-Men.
Or just leave them separate?
Man, there are so many release dates that I don't know if these are new or just being rescheduled.
An overview of the Fox/Marvel adaptations' release dates:
March 3rd, 2017: Logan
March 2nd, 2018: Untitled Fox/Marvel film (New Mutants is rumored to be slated for a spring 2018 release)
June 29th, 2018: Untitled Fox/Marvel film (Deadpool 2?)
November 2nd, 2018: Untitled Fox/Marvel film (Gambit?)
February 14th, 2019: Untitled Fox/Marvel film
Or maybe Deadpool 2 will get the March 2018 slot, and New Mutants is released in June? We'll see!
As of now, it seems like Fox is keeping the June 29th release. And if they're really releasing three Marvel movies in 2018, I think they're going to be New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and Gambit.
I could see the 2019 release being either a new X-Men movie, or X-Force. Which (the short time gap between the Deadpool sequel and possibly this) could be why they're looking for a different director, instead of keeping David Leitch?
Of course I'm just wildly speculating.

My guess is that the two newly announced slots are the only ones that are active, and will be filled by Deadpool 2 and New Mutants, respectively.
Given that Deadpool has a new director and New Mutants may serve as sorta/kinda a retooling of the X-Men franchise, I wouldn't be surprised if FOX gave themselves additional lead time for both films. Gambit:The Movie could be dead and the follow up to Apocalypse (X:Men in Space?) may be a few years away. I could see FOX doing Deadpool 2 and X:Force in consecutive years, but I don't see the studio filling all of those slots
we know Kinberg is writing next X-men film and fox is hoping to get Mcavoy,Fassbender, and Lawrence back for next X-Men film which is rumored
to be based on dark phoenix so new mutants is not a rebranding of X-Men
The wild card in guessing is gambit.
New Mutants is the march 2018 release.Deadpool 2 will get eather june or november release. If gambit gets director soon very possable it's the november 2018 film and deadpool 2 gets the june 2018 spot
Logan, Deadpool 2, New Mutants, X-Force, a new X-Men sequel. Damn, the future of the X-Men movies start to look glorious.
Did they come up with a reason to change characters ages?
Anyway it depends really since 2 things wolverine gets from weapon X, his metal claws and the loss of his memory, now do you find another reason for him to gain these things again? or do you skip say the memory loss which could take away something from the character.
