X3 vs Hulk

There's only 2 versus threads and one is an obvious choice as it's this years two big superhero movies against each other

Wesyeed made this one b/c he loves Hulk and wanted to experiment with how it would do against X3

You know what would be an interseting thread, is SR vs POTCDMC, the two big attractions at this summers box office, one movie boring and long, was robbed from an normally easy 600 million, by the entertaing swashbuckler

Well, A it obviously didn't apeal to not some, but most people

And Hulk is universally hated everywhere else.

Uhm no, even though the reception was'nt Spider-Man level, critically it appealed to MOST critics and it's 250+ worldwide box-office take showed it appealed to MOST people also.

Remember, just because it didn't meet expectations(which were ridiculously high), doesn't mean it failed.

according to boxofficemojo.com Hulk made 132 million domestically, on 137 million dollar budget, the total worldwide gross was 245 million, now that doesn't sound to bad, but when over Half goes to the theaters, the movie didn't break even. People lost money off of this movie, also Hulk had the almost historic word of mouth second weekend drop of 70 percent, the first weekend it made over 100 million domestically, and it finished at 135, yeah, X3 while having a significant drop in second weekend performance, didn't have that kind of a let down.

Now, my second cite, Rottentomatoes.com, while not being the end all in determining how well a movie was recived, it certianly is an excellent starting point. Has the Hulk currently at 59 percent, and rotten, with the Cream of the Crop (i would assume the most respected critics) giving the Hulk a 50 percent.

I would say those two facts show, it was both panned by critcs, and fans, and has only recently found its little niche amongs people who wish their superhero movies where so overrly complex, long, and those who don't like a lot of action in their action movies (a la SR)

Ok, just spottted this thread. HHHMMM..? This question is like asking a person waht the prefer 1) a vicious case of diarrhae or 2) being constipated for weeks? I mean there complete polar opposites of each other, but they both suck.

I case you haven't gotten my point, i hated X3 but absolutely loathed Hulk.

Hulk is one of my favorite characters of all time. And although i loved the first 2 X-Men films, i guess it's just the Marvel curse to have the third movie of their franchise suck (Like Blade:Trinity). I hope Spiderman doesn't but i really have a feeling this one might not fly so well, for numerous reasons. Hulk had all the makings a a great film; Ang Lee and co just trying to make it into an episode of General Hospital, co-starring the green goliath.....

245 million worldwide box-office is not a bomb, I don't care how big the budget was. When we are talking success of a movie we are talking about tickets sold not how much profit the studio makes.

Correction, it was panned by LESS THAN HALF of the critics, not ALL of them(you seem to like to speak in absolutes) but still managed to have a moderately large box-office take. You are blowing this out of proportion to support why you think the movie is bad, and the facts do not support that.

You just didn't like the movie, leave it at that and stop trying to create fiction to verify your opinion.

X3 had the same percentage drop as well...like about 68% drop or so...X3 was hyped after the first two movies.....if the first two movie were bad then X3 wouldn't of had that much $$ in its first week....

But a 70 percent second week drop is a pretty decent gauge as to weather a movie was well recived by fans or not.

Also 135 domestically is not that much money for a "blockbuster" Daredevil made over a 100, and that was reemed, Batman and Robin made like 120, I think Wild Wild West may have made as much as the Hulk did. 135 is really not that much for a summer headliner.

For a Rom-com it is an overwhelming success, for a summer blockbuster it is considered a flop

So if a movie openes huge in that weekend because many people don't have to go to work/school and many people because of their free time decide to see the movie with friends/family then naturally it'll make a huge amount of cash. And afterwards when you get to a non-holiday weekend , where there aren't nearly enough people to go to the cinema , you'll get a big drop off.

Which also probably explains why it took so long to make the sequel.

Box office has never been a measure to me of the quality of a film. This point is irrelevant for me when judging which is a better film. The general public typically prefers crap! The most popular restuarant chain may be McDonald's but you will never catch me eating that diarreha inducing garbage. All I know is I liked Hulk enough to watch it a second time in the theater, but after one viewing of X3, I had no desire to return.

Quality can be argued, underratedness can be debated, the fact that it was a box office bomb (remember it was over 100 million opening weekend, and then failed to come anywhere close after that).

See, you are working out profits and stuff only the studio should care about, but a movie that made 135 million dollars domestically, and 245 million dollars worldwide was a WIDELY watched movie, and is in no way a bomb. You could say it was a dissapointment based on projections or speculation, but a movie that makes over 100 million dollars domestically is NOT a bomb.

The fact is that many, many people went to see this movie, something you don't want to admit to.
