There's a shakeup in X-Men land!

It was said that X-Men 3 writer Zak Penn was set to write the script for the next installment in the franchise, a version featuring all the younger characters- though all would depend on the outcome of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

It turns out now that he might have been replaced.

In a recent interview, Josh Schwartz, the creator of The OC, Gossip Girl and Chuck, has confirmed that he'll be writing the screenplay for the next installment of the X-Men prequels.

What?

Please don't tie in The OC with X-Men!

The new film will apparently center on the teenage characters at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

Schwartz says, “It’s not like I’m adding new characters like Toaster Head, or anything like that.”

And as for his thoughts on other similar films, Schwartz adds, “The Hulk looks like it’s going to be terrible. And why does he look like he’s fighting against the monster from Cloverfield? I mean, with Transformers, it’s not like fans were going to come back saying, ‘You used the wrong car.’ This, however, is a different story."

As for those who've worked on the previous X-Men films, he says “Brett Ratner didn’t have a lot of credibility going in to the third X-Men movie, but I think Bryan Singer [who directed the first two installments] got a free pass on Superman Returns because of his work on X-Men.”

Ouch, he's sinking his claws!!!!!

And, the best part is when Schwartz adds, “I’m very well aware that I’ll be bludgeoned by purists, but I love its mythology, and it comes with a pretty hefty paycheck.”

Glad to see he's doing the film for the right reasons!

Let's hope he doesn't ruin the X-Men series.

Yes, I believe that A hole.

Schwartz should shut his frakking mouth. It's not his place to talk smack as 1. He hasnt been confirmed by the studio (and after this probably wont be. Suck on that, *****e!) and 2. Hes working on YOUNG X-MEN. Really, you gonna talk smack dude? Youre working on the Young damn X-Men! Get over yourself.

who wanted young xmen . **** ! i dont want muppet babies and teen drama . whats the point of this.

Fox wants more more $$$$$ from X-men without making more X-men movies.

They kinda killed that idea when X-men 3 was made. Good going, Ratner.

what a **** head... total and utter ****ing **** head

He is a terrible TV writer who is going to go on to write a terrible X-men movie. Who cares what he thinks?

He...he says that Abomination looks like the Cloverfield monster? Wha...? One is a 300 foot mantis-bat looking thing, and the other is a 12 foot green man...How are they even similar???

I agree with him that the Abomination kind of looks stupid (specifically his head).

This guy is either a genious or a diva...guess we'll find out which.

So we have a guy who dosent particulary care for the films he would rather just have the cash, brilliant!

I'm on the fence with the whole young X-men thing. It would depend on what characters are being used and how good the story is...it COULD be good.

It's Fox. They do stuff like that.

It's a miracle they even made good adaptions at all.

I'd rather see New Mutants team: cannonball, mirage, magik, magma, sunspot, wolfsbane.. save Warlock for a sequel..

I'd prefer at least one sequel with the entire X-men cast, preferably ignoring X-men 3's continuity, without Wolverine. Cyclops needs his time to shine.

Am I the only one who thinks Young X-Men has great potential? Like Goonies or Monster Squad but with superpowers and bigger budget.

They're not going to be kids like in those though. In all likely hood, they'll be 19-20 year olds, and with this guy writing, all of them will be self-centered and totally unlikeable *****ebags.

I really do not want a Young X-Men film. Especially if its written by this guy. We are already getting Wolverine, and Magneto is still in the works, and there are so many other good stories that could be done with the X-Men characters. We don't need a teen drama thing.

it's going to be comic book overload

there's absolutely no need for this ****ty project esp with all the comic based films coming out... people are gonna sick of it all

Well yeah definitely with this guy. I just meant the concept in general has potential for my previous reasons.

he's not necessarily talking "smack" hes just stating his opinion... we can love hulk all we want, but its still not "wowing" the general public... most people i know have said "o no not again"

and you do realize a writer of teenage characters is good for a group of teenage character right? Allan Heinberg wrote for Sex in the City, OC, Gilmore Girls, and Grey's Anatomy and went on to write Young Avengers... Which scored big with marvel fans. Get over yourself dude... you may not like his opinion, but he sounds like a fine writer for the job.

He has a right to his opinion, but he came off like a complete *****e while doing it. I mean, sure he may not like TIH, but he doesnt have to say it looks terrible. For crap sake, he just got a job for a Marvel film. He could have been much more professional, but came off as a dick.

And I dont recall Sex and the City being a show for teens....
