The Dark Knight Rises Your expectations for TDKR so far

My expectations are to be entertained. I have faith that Nolan will make yet another strong installment in this franchise. I'm actually surprised I'm not more negative since usually I get upset if costumes are changed to much or something doesn't seem to be living up to what I imagined but so far I'm actually cool with everything I've seen so far and whether things are changed or not I'm really excited about this movie.

Still really excited. The only thing that has altered that is Catwoman's (as of now) look. Very disappointed with that, but it could either grow on me or change in the movie.

I think Nolan is fully capable of making another great Batman film. The guy has been consistent. I'm always questioning things in the developmental stage but it will make sense eventually.

Go back under your bridge, truth.

Big. Nolan has a very good record.

What i found curious in these last couple of days is how most people have no idea what's the difference between filming on set and post-production.

Tequila, if that is what Bane will look like with THAT voice and Batman will have that same voice with that same suit?

I AM OUT

The Good:
It's Batman!
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Ta...Talia
The League of Shadows
Remember Ra's? He is back...in Pog form!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Tom Hardy as Bane...generally like the look, even if he can't hang in the UFC Heavyweight division or WWE
Wayne Manor returns and the Batcave
And of course the returning regulars like Caine and Oldman

The Not-So-Good/Questionable
Anne Hathaway...not so great "Selina Kyle" promo photo with the weirdo headwear...stop treating Catwoman like it's some big plot twist
The probable return of Bale's disguised Batman voice/Gordon's mumbling in the hospital/other actors hard to hear/understand in the theater
Haven't heard Bane's voice yet...but it could change in post-production easy

That's it for now. Sure I'm missing stuff.

For me, nothing could ever be as exciting as anticipating a new Batman movie with the Joker. The leadup to TDK, the revealing of the final product, and the aftermath was one of the most exuberant things I've ever experienced as far as a film is concerned. It was like lightning in a bottle. The closest thing to it in my experience was Batman '89. Only in that case, there was a huge difference between it and TDK: the Batmania and hype in '89 were better than the movie, which was just ok. TDK was a near masterpiece.
I don't expect the same kind of excitement for TDKR, but I also have no doubt that it will be(at least) a good movie. And with Nolan, there is the chance for another near masterpiece. So, I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll at least like this movie.

I've learned not to go into any of these kind of films with massive expectations because one way or another you'll be let down. However I do like the cast , and some of the spoiler points sound interesting .

I'm not gonna get into a flame war over faith in Nolan or not because at this point , its really silly to get defensive either way for a film none of us has seen yet. Its just a movie afterall.

Ultimately I want to wait and see how the film comes together .

If I had it out of 10, before they arrived in Pittsburgh it was probably 9/10. Now it is around 7-8/10.

Just gonna have to see how this goes.

I think when you see this stuff without any 'story', it looks odd.

But I think when it all comes together, this movie will make sense and it will be a flawless ending. And, I can't wait for someone else to take up a different way of telling the Batman stories.

I've only seen Bane, Catwoman and have heard "the voice". Oh, and seen the Tate-might-be-Talia pics. I know nothing about the plot and all.

Costume-wise it's rather disappointing so far, the voice is odd, but it might actually work. To be honest, all this "bad news" actually made me more excited for the movie, because it's very interesting how this will turn out.

I was super stoked after the teaser trailer. After seeing Catwoman and hearing Bane's voice... very disappointed after that. My expectations are severely lowered, but once I see the trailer in December I'll make a more concrete opinion... :(

I don't think TDKR will be bad, far from it, I expect it to be good. However I don't think it will meet the quality of TDK or Batman Begins. I don't see how you can top a film about Batman's origin and another film that features the Joker. That, right there may cause people to go in a foaming frenzy and hate on TDKR.

If it is bad or doesn't live up to expectations I really hope fans don't turn on Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale or Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. That just wouldn't be fair.

-I expect Catwoman to have a cowl
-I expect Bane to have a better voice
-I expect Miranda Tate to be Lady Shiva instead of Talia
-I expect a new vehicle. Cool vehicle
-I expect Batman to kick Bane's ass
-I expect Catwoman's cleavage

If any 4 of these are met, then I'm gooood.

-I DON'T expect Batman to die

What I've heard has just made me more excited to see the finished product! :)

After everything we've seen/heard so far, how do you "feel" this movie is going to be in terms of quality?

For me, (assuming what we heard will be Bane's voice throughout the whole movie), I'm expecting an amazing story, but with a major flaw that will hold it back from being of the same near-masterpiece quality of TDK. This is just my expectations, maybe Hardy might make his Bane work, but if I just had to make a guess, I'd say we won't get as terrifying of a character like Heath's Joker.

Either way, it's the story and characterization that really matters to me, I won't let a bad performance ruin the film. (if it is a bad one that is)

I'm looking forward to it still, but I'm also concerned.

I told myself after the Dark Knight that the odds of them matching or topping that one were slim to none, so I've been rooting for something as good as Batman Begins, which I also liked a lot, but not as much as TDK.

Now that I'm seeing the pics, watching the clips, hearing the audio that's coming out from Pittsburgh, I'm a little less sure of it being as good as Begins, to be honest.

The Bane voice is concerning, I don't know what to make of Catwoman (though admittedly my issue with her look is not the lack of cat features, but I'm just not liking the LED lights and ****). Primarily though it's just the Bane voice between those two that worries me a bit.

Beyond that, it's just sinking in again that it's really, really damned hard to be the act that follows Dark Knight. That's just a ****** spot to be in, and while I realize there's a lot of dispute to this last point, I always thought they would have tried to find room for Heath Ledger again had he not died (not to say he'd be a big part, but at least SOME part), and I feel his absence in a big way just thinking about him being gone versus what I'm seeing now that everyone else has 'moved on' to make this 3rd movie.

I dunno; I'm getting somewhat "flat" feelings about this production thus far.

I'm holding out hope for it being really good, and I definitely think it still could be, but what I'm seeing so far doesn't have my hyped up and excited, but rather "only" just interested and looking forward to it.

Short version: I'm (very) cautiously optimistic that this will be another very good Batman movie, but it wouldn't shock me if this one feels flat compared to what's come before (not just TDK, but also BB).

Honestly, I have no idea what to expect. One thing that has surprised me most about this movie so far is...well....the surprises.

Think about it, aside from small things on TDK (the Joker's look, the Batsuit) what really surprised us? We expected the Joker, we expected Rachel to get killed, we expected Two-Face. I mean, yeah we didn't expect Heath to get cast, but I'm talking actual story-plot points here.

If you came to any of us on here a year ago and given us a story synopsis that involved Bane, Catwoman, Talia, the return of the LOS. Ra's ah Ghul flashbacks, and a possible Lazarus pit...we would have all said you were crazy and instantly written you off. Anything that didn't involve the Riddler, Hugo Strange, Black Mask or other more seemingly "realistic" (god I'm starting to get sick of that word) villains wasn't even a discussion.

Nolan has gone in pretty much the exact opposite of what most of us expected, and that's what has me most intrigued. I'm excited to see how it plays out.

What happens if you get all of the above, including Batman's death?

My expectations are as high as ever. I maintain that once I see this third movie, when I say "The Trilogy" I will no longer be talking about Star Wars.

This. People always forget that this stuff is mostly out of context to the whole, and that if Nolan does his job (and we should expect him to), it will all congeal in a comprehensive way.

I expect people to complain about every little thing about the movie. Then when it comes out love it. I expect some fans say it wasn't as good as TDK. But I expect a 90 on rotten tomatoes and be very entertaining
