Justice League Zack Snyder Directing Justice League (The Snyder Cut Edition) - Part 2

So, about a hundred posts ago someone asked about why Silas Stone worked in Metropolis but lived in Gotham, I can think of a few reasons for this.
First, it may be that Dr Elinore Stone works in Gotham and she called the shots.
Second, I imagine Gotham has lower property prices than Metropolis, so it might save money to commute
Third, Start Labs is set up in Metropolis because that's where the Kryptonian Scout ship is, but that only landed there a couple years ago. Could be the family had been living in Gotham for years and didn't move just because Silas got a new job.

I am also very fond of Buddy Baker.

Re: distance/commute. Aren't Gotham and Metropolis right across the harbor from each other in the DCEU?

Why is it so hard to believe that these announcements are being used as ammunition against Zack and his fans? WB has been incredibly petty about the whole thing. First thing they do after the movie releases is to derail any hype by saying sequels are a no go. Seems pretty blatant to me

No they haven't. The article literally says they're glad he got to complete his vision. It's toxic fans who have twisted WB's article, 95% of which is about their upcoming slate, into an attack on the Snyderverse.

You say that but first thing Monday morning they put out a hit piece against him, his film and his fans

How is that a hit piece, exactly?

What did Sarnoff present in the article that was false or misleading?

Sarnoff didn't even bring up toxic fans, Variety did, as has almost every media source when referring to the Snyder Cut movement for the last several years.

This is a serious reach, amigo. They didn't give Snyder a chance to finish this movie cause he was white. He got this chance because fans organized a campaign. The studio had no interest doing this movie. Not until they saw an economic reason.. That has nothing to do with white male privilege, and you ain't convincing me otherwise. This feels like an example I see frequently to discredit Snyder because he is unpopular to some fans. Both sides need to stop looking for false reasoning to justify their opinions.

But the economic reason wasn't "Fans wanted it to happen". He got his chance because he had a mostly finished film in the can, much of which the world had never seen, and WB and HBO Max needed content, due to many major projects being shelved or delayed.

This is what the fans don't grasp.

It's a nice narrative that fans got this done, and I'm sure Snyder appreciates their support. But the reason this actually happened was never just about the fans.

He looks more human than I thought he would. I was hoping he'd have an animal mask or head.

That's Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man:

When it comes to the accusation that they’re announcing things now out of spite for Snyder: a lot of the people saying that would be accusing them of trying to steal thunder from JL’s release if they hadn’t waited ‘til it had already dropped.

made my brother watch justice is gray edition.

he enjoyed it because he loves zsjl, but at the same time he mad at me cuz he dgaf about movies in black and white.

lol.

That interview that Sarnoff gave was certainly intended to deflate fan enthusiasm for the movie, the TSS promotion (trailer) and other cast announcements (BA, Shazam 2) are routine things that they have to do as they have already waited long due to pandemic.

Fans helped show there was a demand for it. HBO Max would never have finished this off for content if they were not convinced there was an audience for it. So, I don't disagree with a lot of what you're saying. I have made those points on the forum thousands of times. But by that same token, the fans had some role in making HBO Max interested in it. Again, no campaign and no public interest, then HBO Max I highly doubt ever makes it. Why would they have dusted off a cut no one wanted to see?

More than 1 star aligned when this whole thing happened.

i wanna hear chris terrio's thoughts on this now that this has been released.

i know he been in hiding ever since rise of skywalker tho. :funny:
star wars fans coming at him with pitchforks!

Does anyone else think ZSJL still feels like it probably did have some rewrites by a writer other than Terrio even though he's the only one credited? His dialogue has a very particular feel in both BvS and parts of Skywalker which only crops up sometimes here. Makes me wonder if there's some more minor Johns touch ups and that's part of why he's thanked in the credits.

It's weird how Zack's JL is non canon, but WB was still hostile to him doing what he wanted. At that point why do they even ****ing care?
The thing I find amusing is that not only did Warner encourage the multiverse idea, they dedicated an entire event to it in DC Fandome. The hopes of multiple worlds, multiple Batmen etc....actually started with them.

If they want to blame someone for the behaviour of some unruly fans they need look no further than themselves as they planted the seeds.

The Suicide Squad even being a thing while the universe that bore it is allegedly dead just proves how much they have botched things.

Someone could dismiss this as just marketing which is fine, but that doesn't mean marketing comes without consequences.

I know what you mean. I think there are SOME remnants of Geoff Johns’ rewrites in this movie. I highly doubt Zack or Terrio wrote the Barry pet shop scene for example. Lol

Snyder & Terrio never got to film their version of JL.

Snyder filmed everything post-G Johns/WB rewrite. Certainly there're some elements of Johns' rewrite in ZSJL like some of the Barry Allen's stuffs in the dog store? I suspect that Johns/WB tried to force Snyder to add in more jokes etc., as alluded by Snyder in his interview where he talked about his battle with the WB suits throughout the filming. But Snyder probably filmed a lot of stuffs & ignored most of Johns/WB dictates...his whole film in can is nearly 5 hrs.

Even Terrio seem to be irritated by constant rewrite according to some reports. lol

There were times I felt there were lingering effects of studio meddling.

I'm pretty sure Johns was thanked in the credits because it's still a loose adaptation of the New 52 Justice League origin he wrote.

I think Terrio's kinda clunky when it comes to writing superhero movie dialogue tbh.

My god

imagine being the guy who wrote Batman vs Superman AND The Rise of Skywalker

I’d be curious to see how much that man spends on therapy sessions for the rest of his life

Ehh, all this toxic fan debate has been done to death. Are there toxic fans? Sure, and they give the whole fandom a bad name. Now you can keep arguing whether that's a majority or minority, but almost every fandom has some toxic elements, because people on the internet are toxic. Just go to any Youtube section comments.

And there are good fans, trying to call out the toxic behaviour, and stopping people from engaging in toxic behaviour. There are many fans who are positive, grateful, and support the franchise and characters. Forget charity, many help others in need, and tell others to support the movie legally, and give financial help to make that possible. There's a lot of good in the world, but it doesnt get you clicks. Should they stop making Star Wars movies because the fandom there is toxic?

Ultimately there are many people behind the making of movies, and those people should be supported, its not just about fans. And if a movie is successful, it makes sense there will be demand for sequels. There is nothing wrong with supporting and letting your voice be heard.

Thanks fully I’ve blocked the toxic minority on Twitter.

Funnily enough what you’ve said is the exact argument I had with someone the other day. He was acting like if there’s any toxicity in fandom then it shouldn’t be rewarded and I pointed out how every fandom has a toxic side. Why should a few rotten eggs spoil it for the good ones.

I would like BvS a lot more if it didn't have Terrio's dialogue. He's one of my least favourite screenwriters, even Argo for which he unaccountably won an Oscar is a pretty dull TV movie screenplay elevated (though not elevated that far) by Affleck's direction. His voice is all over Skywalker too even though he and Abrams had about ten minutes to write it so I won't **** on them too bad for it.
