The Dark Knight Rises Zack Snyder wants to make a "The Dark Knight Returns" Movie!

78. He is a little too old, but then again, I always found Bruce to look older than 50 in TDKR.

The only actor that should play a 45-50 year old Batman should be BALE dammit!

With Nolan directing or Snyder.
Theres more actors out there that can play Batman besides Bale ya know. Not to mention ones who are a better fit age wise and looks wise for the TDKR Batman.

My question would be if the action sequences would be too taxing for him.

Of course, Christopher Lee did do Star Wars at 80...

Looks aren't all that crucial to TDKR Batman, I mean Frank Miller's art was (intentionally) ugly. The visuals took a backseat to the story, as opposed to Year One where the two complimented each other orgasmically.

The more I think about it, the more I think I would prefer Nolan over Snyder for a film like this.

Nolan, I believe, would bring his own spin to the party. He would take the overall theme and then play with it to fit his own vision. He wouldn't be a slave to the Graphic Novel - and as a guy who has a few problems with it as a Batman story, I like that.

Snyder would take a fanboy approach to it and I think be TOO faithful to it. He already alluded to fitting Reagan in there.

I disagree with you there, Peter the Pothead. As you said yourself, the visuals of DKR were intentionally ugly and raw. That ugliness not only complimented a bleak and nasty story of the future, but added to it phenomenally.

By the time this movie reaches an appropriate time frame to be made most of the actors that would be ideal for it now will be too old. I would check the who would you replace Bale with now thread for DKR ideas.

Can't see Bale appearing in a Snyder version because Snyder would want to keep it within the continuity of the comic. Then you another problem because The Dark Knight is one of the biggest movies ever and even in 10 years from now people will think The Dark Knight Returns is associated with TDK. Nolan's series didn't 100% convince the GP that it was it's own separate series independent of Burton's until TDK was released. You still had people thinking Begins was a prequel and TDK was a remake.

Therefore...

I think the best thing would be Nolan and Bale to come back a decade after the third film to make DKR in Nolan's universe. And it would easier to bring in Joker via recast in that situation.

Don't get me wrong, I think Snyder would make an awesome DKR and I'd want to see it tomorrow even while Nolan's series is going with Viggo as Bruce Wayne. But I'm speaking as a fan, I think it would be a very difficult to pull of with the GP.

Excuse me, I worded that horribly (is it the pot :wow::huh:) - I should of said that for me reading it I found myself focusing only on the words and only glancing over the pictures. While I was reading, the art had taken a back seat.

Interesting. I didn't notice that when reading it myself. I found myself paying just as much attention to the pictures as I always do with comics.

Ironically, Year One was the first comic I had ever read, so I had to constantly go back and force myself to look at the pictures instead of just reading the words... Not that that was the book's fault.

I don't want politics to be mixed with Batman any more than I want it to be mixed with my Superman.

So you don't want Batman to stay relevent? (sp)

There was plenty of politics in TDK, which made it great. Terrorism, wiretapping, appeasement, torture, etc. The political themes made it appeal to a wider audience. It made the movie more than just a superhero action flick.

A TDKR movie, with a war on terror rather than cold war backdrop, could be great. Imagine Batman getting put on the top 10 most wanted or being denounced as a terrorist vigilante, and Superman has to take him down.

And superman was a political creation by the way. He was government propaganda from the get-go. So i don't see how you can expect politics to stay out of Superman stories.

No, I don't want Batman to stay relevant.

Keaton or Eastwood for Batman, dammit!

Ellen Page as Robin. :oldrazz:

Well, im not sure about you or other people, but if they do DKR, I want a straight adaptation. Thats why I think Snyder would be good. I lvoe Nolan and what he has done with Batman, but if thry want to do a DKR movie, I want a straight adaptation. I dont want Nolans version of it, I want the orginial interpetation of the Graphic novel.

i agree but i think the politics should be updated a bit.

BTW: Eastwood is way too old to play a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne. Back in the Unforgiven days, i woulda said hell yea, but 78? u serious? He'd look like that old crusty superhero from spongebob (i forget the name)

Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

He is too old, but If he was offered the role, I'd still be behind it 100%. Though he doesnt look as old as Eastwood, I always thought Bruce looked older than 50.

For now, Id choose Mickey Rourke or maybe Bruce Willis

Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

Bingo!

Yea Batboy i agree with Rourke/Willis. It'd be cool to see Val Kilmer return if it were made a decade or so from now (i hate Batman Forever but i think he has the right look for Batman)

Watchmen look pretty faithful to the comic so far...
I havent read 300, but I flipped through the book and the movie looks alot like the book.
