Zack Snyder has revealed that he wants to adapt Frank Miller's comic book The Dark Knight Returns into a feature film.

Snyder, who helmed a film version of Miller's 300 and upcoming comic movie Watchmen, told iFMagazine that he has asked studio Warner Bros about creating a big screen adaptation of the story, which focuses on an ageing Bruce Wayne as he comes out of retirement to defend Gotham City for a final time.

"I said I'm interested in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns," he commented. "That's really my favourite comic book."

The director admitted that his chances of making the movie are slim as it is likely to conflict with Warner Bros's Christian Bale-led Batman series.

"The studio has this massive franchise and I don't think they'll let me make a Batman movie where he's 50 years old and Ronald Reagan is President," he said.

no ones stopping him from doing an animated batman.

Haha, my sister's obsessed with the Green Arrow, she'd be very angry you didn't pick someone more attractive. lol.

It's an older Green Arrow, not the young little punk from "Smallville." I also wouldn't mind seeing Chris Cooper as an older James Gordon.

I love Mickey Rourke, he's phenomenal but his face is falling off faster than Clayface. (you can take it as a joke but its true)

David Bowie rules, I'm all for that.

Batman would be hard to cast. The guy I suggested from Mad Men does look to young but by the time they would make this maybe 7 years from now he would be 44 but i would rather have a Bruce Wayne in his 50's. So I'm a little

I know he is, i read the book
and he's got on arm in it
But i'm not sayin i'd be angry, i'm sayin she would.

i'd be cool with it too.

I bet Willlem Defoe would do a pretty good Joker as well. As anyone who has seen the Boondock Saints will know, Defoe can do femme.

Dafoe is great, it seems him and Bettany always come up in Joker talks as well as other villains. He was already GG so I would rather someone else.

Give me a darker, live action Batman Beyond over this any day of the week.

I totally agree with this. I wouldn't mind seeing Keaton play Bruce Wayne in an adaption of Batman Beyond, but even though I like TDKR I really have no interest in seeing an adaption of it on film.

I love defoe.
I'd be for that too.

But i'm kinda against the movie.

is that odd? lol

I can see why a lot of people would think the timing would be off right now for a TDKR movie. I think a lot of fans are eager to see Nolan's films come to a conclusion firts. Plus TDKR is a somewhat contentious GN for fans. Some love it, some hate it, depending on how you like how Batman is portrayed. Personally I would be happy to see it come to film, but I'd be willing to wait.

Viggo Mortensen woud make a great DKR Batman. Might as well throw Ed Harris as Dent in there too.

I don't want this movie to come out for awhile but I would like it to be lined up down the road.

And Viggo was a good suggestion but he would be an awesome villain. Most of the guys in Captain America thread and I like him as Red Skull. Isn't Viggo shorter too?

For fear of reiterating too many times, I'll just use a prior response that illustrates my position on this....
