DC Animation ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’: Animated Series From Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves Greenlit

For me, it's simply because Harvey's burnt side is astonishingly bland looking and not visually distinct whatsoever. Looks more like he's deformed as well.
yeah i get what you mean, he looks like clayface lol

It might work in their favor. Especially if the show is good. Invincible hasn’t had a problem with the binge formula.

But in the aftermath of X-men97, i cannot see how they think the binge model is the way to go. Xmen blew UP over its 10 week release from garnering hype and buzz each and every week.

i'm really hyped for this.
besides the batman 2 and gunn's superman, this is the next best thing i'm excited about.

i think it's because the early 1939-1940 batman comics were some of the first batman comics i read as a kid, so i always wanted to see it done in animated form.
if they introduce the joker in this like how they did for his first 1940s appearance, i am gonna lose my sh**!

i like the animation here, though i get some criticisms where it might look too "clean" - it's fine for me, but definitely doesn't hold a candle to some of the best animated episodes from BTAS.

but peak BTAS will always be the gold standard for all the DCAU.

Because Timm gave into his sick urges and ruined TKJ with that dreadful prologue that nobody asked for.

He has no one to blame but himself. :o

''He'' did not have Bruce hook up with Barbara on his own. His team of writers/producers, spearheaded by Alan Burnett (a man he, and his boss at the time, Jean MacCurdy greatly respects and admires) had the initial idea of Bruce hooking up with Barbara.

- Michael Reeves came up with the dream sequence idea in ''Batgirl Returns'' that Burnett pushed (1994 - BTAS).
- Alan Burnett suggested the actual failed romance angle in Batman Beyond (1999)
- Both Alan Burnett (Producer) and Michael Reeves (writer) made it more overt in Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman (2003). A movie Bruce Timm had no involvement in.
- The pregnancy storyline from the Batman Beyond comic had nothing to do with anyone from the DCAU.
- Once again, Alan Burnett and Brian Azzarello had the idea of using it as a plot device for the newly created epilogue in Batman: The Killing Joke. Something Timm apparently had to be convinced about.

Should Timm have put his foot down and refused? Yeah, probably, but to blame him for all of this is just silly. Heck, Burnett and Dini have been making some real head-scratching choices in their Batman: The Adventures Continues comic run as well. Timm seems like a real horndog, but for fans to dismiss 25-30 years of great work over one little idea is crazy to me.

And for the record, Timm has stated the following (in bold) over on the DC Animation Forum about Batman: Caped Crusader:

hopefully Timm will be able to restrain himself from doing BrucexBabs
Really not a problem.

Also this is a very very different take on Barbara from the one we usually see so what'd even be the issue here if they did that.

I have a feeling this Batman won’t be smooching no one

The way they describe it, it does seem like they don't want any love interests whatsoever. Even Catwoman seems to be more "he's horny" than "he's in love"

Aren't Harley and Montoya romantically involved in this show? I read an article about it not too long ago.

Yeah... they're together. Her relationship with Montoya is what reins in her more violent impulses, apparently.

Now was Timm the one who was rumored trying to screw Paul over the creation of Harley Quinn? :hmm:

Not gonna lie, from what I've read in that interview, I think her dynamic with Montoya here is going to be more interesting and complicated to see unfold.

I will now flee the premises before hardcore Harlivy fans burn me at the stake for this take. :o

Now is this before or after Mistah J?

I'm getting the feeling that the Joker isn't going to be a thing in this show, at least not right now. It seems like Harley donned her persona of her own volition here from what we know of her so far.

They've confirmed this Harley Chooses a life a crime on her own. I'm betting joker will like show up in the next season.

The trailer looked solid enough to me but honestly, I'm just going into this hoping to get another quality DC animated show like My Adventures with Superman or Harley Quinn.

Obviously, I'd love to be proven wrong, but I was never expecting this to be on the same level as BTAS which is just too iconic and too much of a high bar IMO but like I said I'd love to be proven wrong.

I'm not even expecting X-Men 97 level quality but so far I'm really digging the animation and the character designs and Hamish Linklater actually sounds pretty great as Batman which is kind of surprising.

He's a very talented actor but I never knew he had voice acting talent as well.

My hot take is that the average baseline of writing in B:TAS, a show I love with all my heart, is not massively hard to exceed. It's not even the best, or the second best, DCAU show on an episode to episode basis - although it has some of the highest highs.

This all looks good; I’ll definitely be watching. The changes to the lore seem intriguing.

So excited for this show. It looks like a mix of all my favourite batman elements. I love the 40’s setting and noir vibe.

Also a small thing i noticed is the ship that fires the cannon is named the iceberg lounge. That’s a neat idea

there was a few pretty meh BTAS episodes haha.

but the best BTAS episodes are the best of the best in the DCAU.
heart of ice and robin's reckoning come to mind.
