1,2 Freddy's coming for you: Welcome to the elm street thread

I'm down for a reboot. I liked what Platinum Dunes did with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot, Robert Englund might be onboard, it's going to be darker, and we know it will be R rated instead of that PG-13 crap we've been getting lately.

true dat

...that is like recasting Indiana Jones, Jack Sparrow, or John McClane. Those characters were defined by the actors that portrayed them. Their portrayal is the benchmark of the character. It doesn't matter if another actor could do a much better job at being those characters than the original actor could do, because in the end, not only will any actor after the original be compared to the original, but it was the original actor that defined that specific character. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. Johnny Depp is Jack Sparrow. Bruce Willis is John McClane. Like it or not, any actor after them will always be viewed as an imitation first. Of course, there are the special exceptions to the rule like James Bond, Jack Ryan, or Batman.

That's just me...

I agree.

The difference with Batman, Jack Ryan, James Bond, etc. is that they weren't created specifically for movies. Whereas Jack Sparrow and Freddy Krueger are original film characters, not from a novel, comic book, etc. :woot:

keaton has my respect. when he found out that WB wants a mroe kid friendly batman that has neo lights and niples he said f.... you.

englund made 7 more movies where freddy became a joke. so no respect here.

^ Who cares about that. No-one can play Freddy other than Englund. That's it. It's like the rumours a while ago of an Evil Dead remake without Bruce Campbell. It's just wrong.

if noeoen can play freddy then let it go. make an original serial killer.

but i just wanted to say that if they replace englund its hes own fault.

I'm a HUGE Krueger fanatic and have been since 1987,but I'm one of the very few who believes than another actor can play Freddy. As much as I love Robert,I don't want Krueger and the films to die with him. I want to see more! However...doing a Nightmare on Elm Street movie without him, while Robert is still around and able enough to do it,is just stupid. For me,as for alot of fans,Englund IS Freddy. However,I'm talking about like 10-15 years down the line here.

I completely agree with that. If Robert is still able to to it, he should.

As for some people saying he's become a parody, in Freddy vs. Jason he was a lot more like the first couple of movies, imo.

For me, it's like doing a 'Die Hard' movie without Bruce Willis or a 'Mad Max' movie without Mel Gibson. It just wouldn't feel right, to me.

I agree - They did bring the character back to the original "feel" a little bit.

I'd prefer if Englund stuck around to play Freddy, but I don't think it would be necessary. It would have to be done the right way, but I wouldn't be completely disappointed if another actor filled the shoes.

ENGLUND!!

ENGLUND!!!

ENGLUND!!!!

Who cares if he's 61, get in there grandpa and do it!!!

agreed
Englund for freddy in remake

although a prequal to the first one would be better
not to mention a second brawl with Jason

Ugh. What a stupid decision.

id rather see englund, but if they get a truly great actor and give englund at least a cameo (or maybe he could play the john saxon role) i think it could work. but it has to have a brillant script.

well he is old and well.......he did 7 movies.

lets be realistic here ok?

He wears make up...who gives a crap how old he is? As long as he can perform, they should've got him to do it.

Will he be able to move like he did before? I mean hes what 60 somthing now...I would love to see him be freedy again but i dont think it will happen.

He did just fine in FvJ and that was only 5 years ago this summer. If it was his decision to not be Freddy, then I can respect that and just have to deal with it. If it was just the studio being stupid and not asking him, then it was an idiotic decision.

Either way it sucks.

meh... i've seen englund do freddy 7 times now. it's gotten very old, and i want to see someone else give it a go.

Robert Englund rules as Freddy! I wish the movies would go back to the original! That original is just awesome to me!
To me it will be very hard to find an actor to take Englund's place. Freddy is different than Michael Myers or Jason where they are silent and just big guys. Freddy talks and has a personality somewhat.
if they do recast, Englund should have a role as a tribute at least!
