Platinum Dunes Finally Onboard 'Nightmare on Elm Street'

All summer while Platinum Dunes was out promoting their remake of FRIDAY THE 13TH, word spread like wildfire that they had yet to be brought on to produce New Line Cinema's remake of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. SpookyDan just got off the phone with Dunes Producer Brad Fuller who explains that they are now finally involved. " We ARE doing the movie," Full tells Bloody-Disgusting. "We just closed the studio deal and we want to be filming by summer 2009. The script is being worked on now. We just came onto it so we are still figuring out what to do with the story." Watch for more on this as it comes in.

I know everyones gonna ***** and groin about this, but i think this is gonna be freaking sweet. They're gonna make freddy scary like they've done with Leatherface and Jason. and now Freddy!

I'm excited as you can tell.:woot:

Platinum Dunes is going to continue its working relationship with Warner Bros. and New Line for A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Since Comic-Con in July, it was unknown whether producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form were going to be involved in the reboot of the Freddy Krueger franchise. But today, Fuller and Form confirmed to ShockTillYouDrop.com that their deal is done. "It's our next movie," confirmed Form, "hopefully shooting this spring."
Over the summer, Wesley Strick (Cape Fear) was attached to pen the script which is intended to re-imagine the dream-hopping teen killer. "It's like what we're doing to Friday the 13th," says Fuller. "It's not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don't fall asleep or you'll die. This guy gets you when you're most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. That's the basis of the movie. It'll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we'll borrow from the entire series."
Fuller adds that Warner Bros.' positive response to Friday the 13th was very helpful in getting Nightmare off the ground. Test screenings for Jason Voorhees' latest outing have been great.
Addressing the great, incessant question: Will Robert Englund be back? Fuller and Form say they're seeking someone new to don the hat and red 'n green sweater, but they're hopeful Englund will be back for a part in the film.

I was wondering since the remake is a go, can we make a seperate thread for that? And just keep all other freddy stuff in there and just post stuff on the remake in this thread. Being casting, interviews, pics and eventually trailers?

If not that's cool. But if i mod will let me i'd maintain it myself with all the updates. Even not just delete then. Just trying to keep stuff organized for now

TCM was pretty bad except for the costume. I did think TCM the beginning was well made. Friday the 13th looks a bit better than TCM, but I'm hoping it'll be awesome. I'm set for a nightmare remake don't really think it's needed but they really don't have anywhere to go but up since all of the range from ok to please cut my eyeballs out.

...All they are going to do is go back to the original...And put more blood and make it scarier...

Well, since Jason looks good they think that they can reinvent Freddy now...

Same idea...Just more blood...That's the motto for every horror-remake film!

What you want hin to be funny and corny when he kills people? I like all the NOES films but after awhile they just got cheesy and almost cartoon like. The video game in part 6 ring any bells? I mean they went about as far as possible with the series.

I rather see something that scares me so much, that it makes me afraid to go to sleep. Then see a supposed scary thing thats funny.

And if your not a horror film fan no one is forcing you to watch them.

the original had some terrible effects but did maintain being creepy in some parts. i never did like the ending though . i hope they can make freddy scare again.

I think thats what they're gonna do.

I mean look at what Jason was. He was in friggin space for godsake and people were like why and just thought it was horrible and not scary.

Now with the latest one coming out next year he looks frigging badass and scary as hell.

I know man...I'm not here to bash the film or anything...Just saying that in recent years there has been a surge in studios trying to recapture glory with familiar characters, but of course with different stories...Either through sequels or re-dos! The only reason NOES is coming back is because of FTT...Which is just a gorier version of the original...This will likely resort to being the same...

How do you know? Have you seen the new F13?

People wanna see these characters again and not in some goofy sort of stuff like in the last few years.

And i think the dreamworrld now could look really great with the technology they have out now. Thats one of the reasons a movie is remade. for effects and the story is good.

Look at the remakes in recent years...Most of them are because the new technology...The Day the Earth yadadada...Seems like it was remade purely for the new technology...Not saying that NOES will be the same...Just that it's suspicious, that with the good things coming from F13...NOES suddenly becomes in the talks...And that with the new technology...Studios can do so much with the effects and gore...But they are limited to sticking with the original plot since it' a remake...

that is why the remakes can be sucessful , they basically take the character seriously . that is the problem with numerous sequels because everything turned into a joke.

robert englund had said in an interview that there were some fantastical things they would of liked to achieve but didn't have the special effects capability. i think we will get a glimpse into a larger dreamworld.

Wes (Craven) even Told Robert that he was pissed at where the series went and how comical it had gotten.

Theres only so much **** you can do until you back a character into a corner and can't go nowhere.

Like i said before people, your not being forced to watch the remakes, you wanna watch the original its still there. they're not gonna destroy it.

But yes the dreamworld can be a awesome thing to see with the wrong effects and whatnot. I mean you can't not have a dreamworld in a NOES movie.

This will bomb.
Wow, thats amazing that you can see into the future. You wanna look into the future one more time and get me next weeks lottery numbers.:whatever:

Just about every film they had has been a success, cause it works on a low budget. TCM 03 was made for 8 million and made 120 million worldwide. and Freddys more of a bigger name then leatherface, so i expect it to make more.

Not really. Look at F13. Does it have Jasons mom as the killer like in the first, no? It has both sack jason and hockey mask jason. Which are from parts 2 and 3. Friday the 13th will be a mixture of the first couple series.

And as for the freddy movie. They could make say the first 20 mins a prequel and then after that led into the original one with nancy(or whatever they call the character) and finding out about Fred Kruger.

Almost amazing as your innacuracy when it comes to assumption.
I was referring to critically not commercially.
You know what go act like a film snob else were.

And next time actually say what you mean. Don't be lazy on a comment. Its like how the hell am i suppose to know what you mean by just saying its gonna flop? Onky one thing rings to mind.

And its for the fans to decide if its good or not. Not some stuffy movie critic who hates the genre.

And like i said before how do you know that? Its like Jeez its just annouched and your crapping on it. But i'm guessing your one of those people. andi'm just gonna leave it at that. Cause i don't want the thread to be closer

On a different note, who would you like to see wear the glove?

Get Robert Englund to do the remake as well or don't do it at all.

I love Englund, but I agree that they need to get someone new to really reboot this franchise...someone that can put a new spin on the character. If Englund is in it, it will still be good, but it won't really be scary because come on, are any of us really scared of his version of Freddy anymore? And even if he's written differently, the old, campy Freddy is still going to be in the back of the audience's mind.

Robert Englund is that person. They can have him play a much darker, more vicious, and violent Freddy. If people are going to think about the comical, campy, and old Freddy then they need to watch the first film, the second film, and New Nightmare.

Freddy can be dark, demented, and vicious when he's written for it to be necessary. Robert will always be Freddy and you just can't have anyone else do it.
