I love that you're a history Major. I'm a bit of a history guy too!
The South had a right to leave but do you believe that's something to really make torn on Lincoln? The best moves aren't sometimes the right one.
I understand why he made the decision to invade the South, and that is a case where I am glad that I wasn't in charge at the time. But, I do think invasion of the South did raise the question of how much control does the government have over us? This is why I am torn. I know all the things about the South and why the invasion happened, but at the same time...it is scary that the gov't, when it doesn't like something, can just swoop in and take you down.
And JFK had sex with Marilyn Monroe therefore he wins at life.
This is very true
Worst President of the 19th century and why?
All of them, LOL! Seriously, the vast majority of these presidents outside of Jefferson, Lincoln, and Jackson were mostly lame ducks who didn't do much. Most of them were also EXTREMELY corrupt!
Worst of the 20th century and why?
Warren G. Harding! He was a waste of a President. It is bad when during prohibition, you get caught by the cops for having a distillery across the street from the White House (the President's secret stash)
Not to mention all the scanadals, corruption, etc. He was just...so bad it hurts.
Favorite decision the US made(that doesn't have to do with The America Revolution)?
The Constitution. It is a great document, and one I think we have strayed from far too much. We started with too weak of a central gov't (Articles of Confederation), but now the central gov't is far too powerful. It needs to be shrunk down.
Worst decision the US made?
How long do you want this list? I'm going to make this list mostly contemporary:
All the trade agreements that have destroyed manufacturing in the US (making us slaves to rising college prices and demoting us to lowly jobs like cashiers and such), going into Iraq (thus costing us billions of dollars that has helped tarnish the economy), Vietnam, etc. Also, allowing the central gov't to grow far too large.
As long as you want, but you can narrow it down if you want to explain one.
Alright for fun, give us something that isn't a usual complain about the US, a la central government, Vietnam, or Iraq. The first one you listed sounds interesting.
Haha it's so true about 19th century presidents, though Madison did manage to hold off the British. I hate Jackson for his rampant racism (compared to the quieter racism of others) and his handling of the banks. I still feel bad for Ulysses Grant because a lot of that wasn't his fault.
And about Harding: Oh, the Teapot Dome scandal. It all went terribly wrong. I'm surprised you didn't choose Hoover, or for the 18th century, Buchanan.
