2008 Academy Awards

I didn't see it, but I heard he was wasted and just walked up to Jen Garner as she was being interviewed and hugged her and kissed Laura Linney, then he told Seacrest "He has been looking for him"
If I wake up tomorrow and see headlines that say "Busey kills Seacrest", I will die a happy man.

I suspect Page is gonna upset best actress. I got a feeling.

Tilda Swinton looks like Conan O' Brien tonight! :lmao:

I just don't get all the hate for Juno. It honestly is a really good movie. It is perfectly made, acted, edited, shot and executed. NO it is not the most ambitious or "epic" movie, nor is it strictly a drama that tries to say something profound or have a gut wrenching ending. It is just an extremely intelligent film that did everything right. I personally think it deserved it's nom and think it has more of a right to be in the best picture category than No Country for Old Men which is nothing but hype and Coen worship (when it is there before Sweeney Todd, Assassination of Jesse James, Into the Wild and Zodiac, I feel that strongly).

I know No Country will win, but can someone tell me why they feel Juno is so unworthy? Because it is a feel good movie and doesn't try to be ponderous (which is good. There Will Be Blood was brilliant, Michael Clayton was extremely sharp and subtly moving/chilling, Atonement was heartbreaking, surprising and epic without being cliche, but can there be a movie that doesn't end bleak or oppressive for a best picture nomination?).

I mean Juno is just as well made as any of them and by no means a dumb movie, but people treat it like garbage. I'm torn between which I want to win it or TWBB, but I think it is far more deserving than NCFOM.

I agree! Saw Juno last night and loved it.

^They mentioned on MSNBC earlier that the awards usually go to movies that are somber and dark. Which equates to artsy. That's why I suspect Persepolis will win for animated feature. I snuck into it earlier today when I went to see Vantage Point...:p. It's pretty deep.

i think page will win for some odd reason, i know how the oscars liek to give to in to whatever is popular.

I stand firmly behind you... 100%.

In a lot of ways, I felt connected to the film itself because of the characters. Why? Because I was adopted when I was a baby so I can relate to Garner's character of wanting a baby so badly when my real mother really wanted to keep me yet she couldn't because she was too young and busy with college and stuff. I never met my real father... but I'll leave it at that for now.

Did I see Hannah Montana?

My Bets:

Best Pic: there will be blood (but i want no country to win)

Best Actor : Daniel Day Lewis

Best Actress : Ellen Page

Best Supporting Actor : Javier Bardem

thats all i got

I understand what you're saying, as I said before I thought Juno was a good movie, However when you put that film in the group it is in, it becomes less. Each of the movies it is grouped with are very powerful "epic " drama's, and they have oscar winning/nominated actors. Having a comedy with "no-name" actors might warrant a good movie, but for it to win an oscar winner for best picture it has to be greater than that, thats just the way it is. Thats the reason I "bash" it. I cant speak for everyone else however.

I saw No Country for Old Men, and I liked it, but I don't think it will win. The Oscars is too political, they try to uplift the flavor of the month and show that they support a wide array of films. No Country for Old Men strikes me as the conventional pick. It's dark, gritty with an unsatisfactory ending. While those things all helped the movie, the Oscars is all about politics, not quality. Why did LOTR:RotK win, because the other two had been snubbed the last two times up. I think most people who saw Mystic River that year would concede that was the better film. Then what happens next year, Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby wins, despite the fact that I found the movie to not be Eastwood's best showing. The Departed wins to make up for snubbing Goodfellas. Now we have Juno. Juno is a quirky comedy, and for the past few oscars there has been this push to see a comedy win best picture. You saw Will Ferrel get up and do his comedy routine act at the Oscars asking why comedians get snubbed. You saw Little Miss Sunshine lose in favor of The Departed despite being the great hope for comedies. Now we have Juno. So I think they'll give it to Juno to show how hip and now they are.
