2008 Academy Awards

Tim Burton once again gets f**king raped, not even a single goddamn nomination:cmad: To quote Robert Rodriguez, "f*** the oscars!" Pretentious ostentatiously filled ***holes!

It's a technical award. The quality of the movie doesn't matter.

I understand that, but seriously... out of ALL of the movies last year, they couldn't find one whose makeup impressed them more than Norbit?

Surf's Up over the Simpsons Movie? What the hell? And Norbit over Sweeney Todd for Best Makeup?

Rick Baker's still owed an Oscar for Planet of the Apes, so I'd find it hilarious if he won for Norbit.

Ratatouille sucked, but if there is something that really sucked about it was the story (visually it was beautiful) Can't believe it got a nom in screenplay :whatever:

Agreed about The Simpsons. And I'm surprised Gone Baby Gone only has one nom for Amy Ryan. I don't know if Ben Affleck deserved to actually win awards over other people, but he sure as s**t deserves some nominations. I was also surprised to see that Sweeny Todd didn't get a nod for cinematography - a good percentage of reviews I read upon its release cited the camera work as a biig positive.

Also surprised to see that Into the Wild didn't get at least 1 nomination (I thought Best Adapted was for sure)

What a dry list of nominations. I'll give There Will Be Blood and No Country For Men its props but thats where it stops.

wtf@ Michael Clayton getting major nods. I thought it was ok but I thought critics were gonna savage it. Better than Zodiac,Gone Baby Gone, Rescue Dawn, American Gangster and Waitress eh? aight....

Speak for yourself my dude, Surf's Up made me giggle like a baby lol. The Simpsons movie wasnt all that. It wasnt bad per say but it was by no mean's spectacular like it should have been.

lol@ the irony Norbit getting a nomination: " Nah Eddie we wont give you the award for Dreamgirls cause that Norbit film left a sour taste in our mouth (pause) but your make up artist will get one" lol

Reggie Hammond lost :(

Best Supporting Actor-Hal Holbrook
Yeah, you are right. I was just checking the list, and there was 2 noms... :O
I don't know where did I get the idea that it got zero (maybe cause I was expecting picture, director and best adapted)

Too bad Robert Downey Jr didn't get supporting for Zodiac, or Travolta for Hairspray...

Aw, poor Tim Burton...got f***ed out of directing and his beautiful masterpiece Sweeney Todd for best picture. :csad: American Gangster didn't make that list, either. Suprized Spider-Man 3 wasn't nominated for visual effects.

On a plus side though, I'm pretty happy that both Ratatouille and 3:10 to Yuma were nominated for Original Score, both wonderful pieces of work

Such a boring list of nominations, and so ridiculously predictable.

"Bleh" is all I have to say. Bleh.

There is no way I could have predicted Surf's up for best animated... Hell, why not TMNT :p

Cool to see Juno get some nods and Clayton's love seems to have come from nowhere since it wasn't a movie that was raved about on any level.

Gotta disagree with you on a few picks, HR. I think Depp will win best actor, Blanchett for supporting actress, and Atonement for best picture. That's not to say I wouldn't be surprised if you're right. ;)

You might be right on Blanchett, i took a total shot in the dark in that category, figuring Clayton is getting this love so it might win one. Atonement beating No Country ? hmmmmmmmmm possible BUT I'll be shocked if anyone other than Day Lewis wins best actor.

I really can't see DDL not winning....

Quite sad Luda, The acting was impressive all around, especially RDJ.

Not for " I'll haaaaaave mmmmy veeeeeeengaaaaaaaaaaaaance!!!" he wont

Zodiac's release date probably hurt it b/c "Best director" and "Best cinematography" should have been noms for it.
