2008 Academy Awards

They should the have the Oscars twice a year, coz most of these film have come out in the last 6 months only. Academy members must have really short memories. Zodiac getting nothing is appalling but not entirely unexpected due it's release date, Tim Burton not getting nominated again not unexpected, one feels he'll be one of those directors who should win an Oscar, but never will. Blanchett will only win one award, Deep and Day Lewis will slug it out with the later getting the edge. I'm doubtful there will be any real upsets in any of the major awards.

Thing is, he may deserve recognition, but other directors did a better job this year than he did, as has probably been the case every other year he wasn't nominated.
Not in this case. Tim Burton actually turned in some of the best direction of 2007 in SWEENEY TODD. It is certainly superior to the work of Best Director nominees Tony Gilroy and Jason Reitman.

I wasn't stating my opinion, but trying to speak from the perspective of the Academy. Personally, I thought Sweeney Todd should've gotten a BP nom.

If only they had asked you to tell them what was best first.

I'm suprised that Ben Foster didn't get a nom

I was also expecting 300 to get at least one nom

I understand that, but seriously... out of ALL of the movies last year, they couldn't find one whose makeup impressed them more than Norbit?

But Norbit did have good make-up. Don't put down Rick Baker's work cause the movie sucked.

Rick Baker's still owed an Oscar for Planet of the Apes, so I'd find it hilarious if he won for Norbit.

He didn't win for Apes? :cmad:

Ellen Page in "Juno" (Fox Searchlight)

I thought it was obvious that Marion Cotillard is the winner.

JUNO is nominated for BEST PICTURE???

It was a good movie.

I agree about Zodiac, but it needed to be released in October or so to be seen as a serious contender.

I've never understood that horse****. They give awards for the best movie of 2007 don't they? Not for the best movies from the 1st half of 2007? Why is that? Can ANYONE tell me?

They say that if a movie is released too early in the year the Academy voters forget about it. :whatever: But, whatever, blame the studio. They should have released the movie later in the year.

Not "Best Picture" good.

True. I enjoyed Knocked Up and Superbad a lot more, but based on movies the Academy likes to nominate I think the nomination is alright. Nothing to complain about.

i dont think zodiac was just "forgotten" because it came out earlier in the year. i mean, they dont come up with the noms from memory. plus, these films are submitted for consideration.

Give this man a nomination or SOMETHING, damnit!

Like Gary Oldman, who has never been nominated either, he is too good for the Oscars. :woot:

Anyway, I think 'Best Actor' is between Daniel Day-Lewis and Johnny Depp, but I would love it if Viggo Mortensen won. He deserves it and it'll add more surprise to the awards, which can very boring and predictable.

Plainview: Drainage! Drainage, Eli! Drained dry, you boy! If you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake and I have a straw and my straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!

If Daniel Day Lewis does not win the Best Actor, Ill break someone

List of snubs:

Tim Burton

and

TIM BURTON

and least we not forget...

TIM BURTON

I fail to see how a movie like Juno (I liked) more deserving of a best picture nomination than Eastern Promises, American Gangster, Zodiac, 3:10 to Yuma, or Rescue Dawn. These were better movies IMO than JUno, which was clever and "hip", or whatever. Oy vey.

The Simpsons Movie was robbed :cmad: .

Who the hell in their right mind would actually prefer Surf's Up over The Simpsons Movie!?

Aside from American Gangster (which actually kind of sucked) I completely agree.
