2008 Academy Awards

The Simpsons Movie was robbed :cmad: .

Who the hell in their right mind would actually prefer Surf's Up over The Simpsons Movie!?

I've stuck with the Academy Awards for many years now, but that's one of the biggest atrocities they've committed.

Greenwood & Vedder's Scores Ineligible for Oscar

Radiohead rocker Jonny Greenwood and Eddie Vedder both missed out on a Best Score Oscar nomination for There Will Be Blood and Into The Wild, because both soundtracks were ruled ineligible. Many Oscar watchers were left stunned when the rock stars' movie score efforts were seemingly ignored by voters, but Oscar rules left both stars compositions out of the running. Greenwood's music for There Will Be Blood missed out because officials at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences decided that a large part of it was not written specifically for the film, which picked up eight Oscar nominations on Tuesday . A proportion of the soundtrack was taken from Greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Receiver composition, which was commissioned by the BBC, and won him a British Composer Award in 2007. And Pearl Jam singer Vedder's soundtrack for Sean Penn Into The Wild was also deemed ineligible for an Academy Award nomination - because the score is too "song-based."

Well I just saw Eastern Promises and I'm not opposed to a Viggo victory at all. Plus the nudity will probably help his chances.

Juno was a good movie...It won't win Best Picture, However, it will win BP at the Independant Spirit awards. No Country For Old Men will win BP.

Hairspray should have been nominated in original song :(

Dude, I don't care if Enchanted has the 3 best songs ever written in the history of cinema, just give them 2 noms (which is a lot too), and give the other to someone else, even if it doesn't win... just to acknowledge the work of the people involved...

Would it be silly to say that i can't believe that Kevin Costner got over looked in Mr. Brooks or even William Hurt?

I haven't heard Greenwood or Vedder's scores, but that is just bull**** .

Into The Wild's soundtrack is amazing. This is friggin bs. There are plenty of other nominees and winners in past years that were "too song based". That is ridiculous.

i really loved Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Charlie Wilson's War. I'm hoping he can pull the upset.

But none of the songs were original. They were based on the play.

Best score and best song are two categories.

Have you seen Into The Wild? Tell me, with a straight face that it doesn't have one of the top 3 scores of any movie this year. I dare you. You can't do it, as that is a blatant lie. Also, do you really think that 3 of the top 5 original songs in any film this year were in Enchanted????

I haven't seen the movie, but the Academy said the score was too song based. Then you mentioned 8 Mile and Hustle & Flow which won best song not best score.

As for Enchanted...the songs were good. Don't be an Alan Menken hater! :cmad:
