2008 Academy Awards

where can i see the complete list of nominees?

i heard marco beltrami was nominated for 3:10 to yumas score...

Nominations are all great.

Wait, no.

Can someone tell me why The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, a film which me and my girlfriend left completely stunned, was shunned for Best Foreign Picture. Hell, there were even rumors it would compete alongside English language films because it is THAT good.

I just don't get it. Diving Bell was by far the best film of the year.

Also, why did Juno get the nom and not 3:10 to Yuma? Didn't everyone think it would?

Though it is nice to see the Academy recognizing thrillers and comedies, like the old days, when films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark could be Oscar contenders.

Speaking of which, when will get a damn Crystal Skull trailer?

I saw There Will Be Blood today. I must say that is Depp loses to Lewis this year, I can't be mad. Lewis was fantastic, and his character was so fun to watch. I have only seen this and No Country in the BP catagory, and right now, I am pulling for There Will Be Blood.

I wish Steve Zahn had gotten some recognition for his role as Duane Martin in Rescue Dawn. That had to be the most surprising performance. I thought he outshone Bale. That's right, I said it! :cmad:

Bale was also out acted by Russell Crowe in 3:10 to Yuma, so it is not like it doesn't happen.

Didn't see Rescue Dawn though, so I can't comment.

Hmmm, I liked them both in Yuma, but I see what you're saying.

Zahn was great in Rescue Dawn, Jeff Daniels was over looked for The Lookout as well.

I am actually kind of surprised Denzel wasn't nominated for American Gangster. I mean, that kind of role (mixed with Denzel) is totally the Academy's cup of tea...unlike Tim Burton, lol.

Same here....I will be seing Michael Clayton tommorow though

I never got around to seeing American Gangsters. :(

Awesome movie

I am taking a vow to stop saying a movie was better than No Country For Old Men in my opinion, after this post :woot:

American Gangster and Sweeney Todd were both a lot better!!! So was There Will Be Blood (my current endorsement for BP since I have yet to see Atonement, Juno, or Michael Clayton).

I am gonna so all 3 of the remaining movies on my list sometime this week.

If Juno wins the best picture, it will be like the year "Crash" won it. Because I don't think many people saw Crash winning that year.

I'm rooting for NCFOM or Juno. I'm going to see There Will Be Blood and Michael Clayton very soon.

i just saw "There Will Be Blood" and, Good God, it was great. my new number one of 2007.

i've been hearing a lot that "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men" could split the votes leaving it open for "Michael Clayton" or "Juno". no one expects "Atonement" to win.

Of the five nominees, Juno is the one most people have seen. In the next week or two it will gross 100 million bucks. While most people aren't expecting it to win I think its the one people are rooting for.

The studio took it out of the running for Best Foreign Language Feature so it could compete for Best Picture. Apparently, you can't have two movies competing for two "best ____ feature" awards. Obviously, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly struck out.

Is that really how it works? What a terrible system.

Really lack luster year this year... I mean last year we had some juice with some big names in the hunt... but this year will be a stinker.

Am I the only one hoping Johnny Depp pulls an upset victory over Daniel Day-Lewis?

I don't know man... I just don't see the big time director, the Hanks, the Denzels, etc... and the two movies that are the leading candidates for best picture are movies that people had trouble finding in theatres... none of them began as nationwide releases if I am not mistaken... I'll still watch but its not exactly the cream of the crop if you ask me. And yeah we got Depp vs Lewis but Depp has no shot... just like Whitaker was a lock last year.
