I'm not saying this or that film sucks, but I've just come to realize how much the Oscar values "message" and "publicity" over actualy quality when it comes to nominating and awarding films/actors/etc.

The Departed, despite being a great film, is another example. They didn't give him the award for Goodfellas, which in all rights should have won.

My other favorite is Million Dollar Baby. You know, I really didn't think much of that film, and thought the world of Mystic River. Mystic River loses to LOTR, and next year Clint Eastwood trots out this death wish movie that really felt kind of disjointed and was poorly paced and all of the sudden it beats out a host of better films.
