2011 NFL Thread: The Final Four - Part 12

Two great games that really lived up to the hype. Looking forward to the Super Bowl rematch.

Kyle Wiiliams should have stuck with baseball.

The play at the end of the Ravens/Patriots game when it was 3 and 1, Flacco could have just ran for the first down easily. That was the only real mistake I saw Flacco do last night. With all the criticism, he really did play well last night.

Yeah I agree with that...that was the first time I felt the Pats were gonna win

I was thinking about that.

If he did that, then they'd have no time outs, and I bet they still would've kicked the FG the very next play.

But yeah, if I was Flacco, I would've ran for it anyway.
I think they had 1 more timeout.

They took their second with 58 seconds left.

They would have had 18 seconds. Enough to throw it at least one from the 13 or 12 yard line into the end zone and then go for the field goal.

Why in God's name does it seem like every Niners fan feels like they "deserve" another Lombardi trophy?

You people are more pompous than Batman fans.

I've picked up on that a bit too. None of this loss falls on the Niners. It is just a "fluke," from the Giants. It doesn't matter to fans that Smith played like total ****. It doesn't matter that the Niners had all kinds of stupid penalties (which Harbaugh didn't seem to hold his team accountable for). The lack of third down conversions, the ridiculously conservative play calling, the mental lapses, the bad special teams play and so on and so forth....The Niners lost this game because they deserved to lose. Their fans seem to act like they were heirs apparent to the Lombardi, that this was THEIR season and that they were some how deprived of it unjustly.

watching the game I thought the Ravens lined up and kicked the ball way too quick. Maybe they were expecting a time out from the Pats to ice the kicker

They should have known better. I don't think I've ever seen Darth Hoodie attempt to ice a kicker. He seems to think such shenanigans are beneath him (and he is probably right, icing the kicker is stupid and almost never works....unless you're Jason Garrett and are icing your own kicker).

And I just don't get.

You Steelers fans have even more trophies and you guys don't act like that.

Hell, the way you guys act on here, I might've actually started liking the Steelers. If not for your QB.:o

Man, you Steeler fans' sure like to gripe against the Niner fans...

We have to read pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages upon pages of gripes and moans when the Steelers lose a REGULATION game and all the reasons why (and it's practically always the coaches' fault :whatever: )... and we don't have the same rights to complain?

The Niners offense moved the ball when it did, and scored when they had the opportunities... the Giants D stopped them when they had to... same goes for the Giants offense... they moved the ball, but the Niner D stepped up when they had to and prevented them from scoring... Yes, Alex Smith did not have a good game, but some of that comes from the Giants playing great Defense... ditto for the other way around...most of us are just complaining about the botched punt return... you take that ONE play out of the game, and we wouldn't have even gone to overtime...

So give me another infraction, but I'm just calling a spade a spade, and if you can be a baby when the Steelers lose a game, then we have the right to complain as well... at least we had a legitimate "bad play" to focus on yesterday... not just the same inept coaching/injured star player crap that you keep moaning about.

Thanks for listening.

Mike

I love Niners fans using the could of should of would of nonesense . The bottom line is a game that was pretty even . The Giants had no turnovers . The Niners had 2 . Yes turnovers usually do determine the games especially when it comes to close games so stop knocking the Giants for doing what the Niners couldn't which was remain turnover free .

All close games you can say if you take this play away or if that play happens ... Guess what it doesn't matter

Go to the NFL thread when the Steelers lost to the Niners and check out the endless pages... you might wanna rethink that statement of yours...

Everybody plays "shoulda coulda woulda" when it comes to football... it was an excellent game, and unfortunately, my team didn't win... doesn't make me wanna cheer for the Giants though... like CConn mentions, they play really dumb football most times, and it's difficult to appreciate a team that fumbles their way to success, and I have just hated the Giants for over 25 years now... never liked them, never will...

I've seen Matt and company react to plenty of Steelers loses, and they're not "babies" when the Steelers lose. At least not nearly in the same way as you guys.

As a casual observer, I'd much rather hear fans get down on their own team and coaching staff, than go around trying to illegitimize their opponents victory, and start praying to Egyptian gods that they'll loose the next game.

Matt, SIAT, etc. just seem passionate about their team. 90% of you Niners fans just seem immature.

Way to twist my words.

Don't worry, we don't like him either. :funny:

I was going to respond, by Conn said what I would have. We don't blame the other team or write them off (unless it's the Bengals in which case it probably is a fluke ;)). We look internally and blame our own team for our own shortcomings.

Niners fans on the other hand seem desperate to show why this entire season will now have an asterisk beside it in the history books because EVERYONE knows the Niners SHOULD have won and were robbed by a fluke.

If it had been anyone else but the Giants, I might have kept my cool... I just HATE that ****ing team.

Listen, I've been living on the East Coast my entire life, and have been a Niner fan since 1980, so I've seen the highs and lows... I don't like it when they lose, and unfortunately, the Niner offense ran into a hot Defense yesterday... the fact that it was the Giants pisses me off even more...

Having said that, it was anyone's game throughout the ENTIRE game... Matt can throw all the bad Alex Smith stats in my face, but neither offense was able to move the ball nor score because both defenses played terrific.

I don't understand where it's written that I have to "enjoy" seeing my team lose?

I could take the time to look for the post, but I believe you said they were a team that played kinds dumb football and never to their full potential most times... or soemthing like that...

Eli moved the ball, he just couldn't finish drives. No one is saying that you have to like it. But when the Steelers lose big games, I look for ways to improve the team for the next big game. I don't hold my breath, stomp my foot and cry that the they are perfect and claim the game was just a fluke.

TMOB how many years would you give Smith?

I never said there needed to be an asterix anywhere... they lost a game that I BELIEVE they could have easily won.

Why is that so wrong?

I would like to think that all you Steeler fans BELIEVE you should have beaten the Broncos and lost to a flukey QB (and bad coaching :cwink: )

If management doesn't get a big name QB in the off-season, I would give Smith ONE year to improve... he's had his chances, and we can all look at the different HC's and OC's... but next season, he'll have the same team as this year, so he should simply be better.

If not... get rid of him.

And that's merely my opinion.

I never blamed a flukey quarterback for the loss to the Broncos. In fact, I feel like (and have stated) that the Steelers went into Mile High, cocky and arrogant and got both outplayed and outcoached. I'm not saying that we deserved to win the game. We didn't. You on the other hand seem insistent that Niners some how got hosed.

In terms of contract, I meant.

Nope... I don't think they got "hosed"... other than the game might have been different if not for ONE play (the botched punt return), but it happened, the Giants scored, and the Niners still had a chance to win.

If your team lost because they were cocky, then you can blame your team for failing to show up.

My team was not cocky, and showed up for the game, and had a great chance to win... same goes for the Giants... it was a damn close game...

If the Giants had beaten the Niners without that ONE play, I might be sining a different tune... it's just one of those "plays" that unfortunately happens, and you hate to see the outcome of a game decided on it.

And had we won the game, we would have deserved it... just like the Giant fans feel like their team deserved it.

Unlike the AFC game, where the Ravens clearly outplayed the Pats, both teams in the NFC championship played well enough to "deserve" the win... unfortunately, that only happens to the team that scores the most points...

Unlike a Steelers fan, I can hold my head up high this morning and still feel proud for my team.

Completely agree. I much rather listen to someone rip into their own team and analyze what their team did or didn't do.

Lot of upset fans in here today, though, and I get it. Sucks to be so close and come up short. Believe me, I know...

In terms of contract, I meant.

I'd sign him for one more year, and make in high on "bonus incentives"... if by the 12th game, he's clearly shown great improvement, sign him to an extention... maybe 3 to 5 years... would depend on the "improvement" of play...
