24: Legacy

That clip/pic is actually from one of the extras on the Live Another Day Blu-Ray - 24: Solitary. You can probably find it online somewhere - I think on Vimeo - if you haven't seen it, it's a couple years old now.

it was great hearing the 24 clock again... thought it was pretty good with a likeable character in Eric Carter, but good god, are we going thru yet ANOTHER mole in CTU?!?...

Kefer Sutherland said this in both one of be hind the scenes shows and on pbs's Charley Rose show the season tony Alameda was arrested

most agency have had a mole in there system with the exception of the U.S. secret service. and it's will be a continuing thing to tv show's a to show case it cause it happened often and at time continues to do ir real life . with the exception of that one agency in the states. it like how there dirty cops and there's alot of in the states and yes even freaking canada. and la. most states.

the other is when he was on Charley Rose's show, he said that if and when he himself ever left that he has always viewed 24 as more then just jack Bauer him self and that the show has enough going on with the other characters to do as an ensomable thing rather then it to revolve around one character and he'd like 24 to continue as series with out Jack.

but it seems not alot of people got his message in both the behind the scenes and the pbs Charley rose show's interview.

Best part was when Rebecca tasered the new CTU head. :lmao: That guaranteed me watching the next ep.

So give me the lowdown guy's, Is this worth it? Loved the original 24 and Season 5 has to be one of the greatest of any seasons in any TV.

I enjoyed the first hour.
The name Jack Bauer is never mentioned.

I have no problem with having someone else be the star of this show. My only issue is that they should've saved Jack or had the show start off with the mission to save Jack Bauer first because I just don't agree with them leaving him captured.

I have no doubt Jack will return one day.
For now, I am enjoying this new take.
I hope that it is successful.

You would be hard pressed to find a bigger 24 fan than me...and all I felt toward this is a resounding "meh."

I have no issue with a different lead other than Jack Bauer. I would've loved to see Yvonne Straviski's character carried on, or Tony, or Renee (if she weren't dead). But there is just nothing interesting about the new guy. I don't even know his name. He is just so dull and generic.

Everything about this show is. Its like the writers took every 24 trope they could think of, threw it at the wall, and are just kinda hoping something sticks. Which, in fairness, is what the writers did in 24's later seasons. But in later seasons that was okay, because the viewer was, by that point, invested in Jack and Chloe. People forget, season 1 of 24 was a fairly small and personal story.

Here, there is nothing pulling the viewer in to it. I have no connection with these characters. I don't care if there is a mole in CTU because I don't know this iteration of CTU. It won't be effective for there to be a mole amidst a bunch of people I don't know. Season one of 24 slowly pulled back the veil over the mole. It built connections between the audience and Jack, Nina, Tony, and Jamie. It gave the viewer stakes about who the mole is. Here, it can be virtually anyone and it means nothing to me, or Eric for that matter. He doesn't know these people. There is nothing personal driving him (unlike season 1 with Jack).

As a result it all just feels, meh. I suppose what I am getting at is, this feels like an episode out of season 4 or 5 of 24, by which point the characters and stakes are well established. Instead of starting small and world building, giving the viewer insight into the new players and their roles, we have just been dropped in at a midway point with the writers just assuming that the brand would compensate for the lack of character development. And its kind of hard to care as a result.

I know Sutherland liked to say the format was the real star...but watching a Bauer-less 24, I gotta disagree. The format may have been the star, but Jack was what connected the audience to the world. This show is proving that slapping a generic knock off into the same story and format does not replicate the results.

Also, the Edgar reference was so incredibly forced.

Analyst who is upset for....reasons: Do you know who my cousin is!?! It is....*winks at the camera*...EDGAR STILES!

Analyst's boss:.....'kay? Who?

Analyst: Only the best analyst CTU has ever seen who taught me everything I know.

Analyst's boss:.....again, 'kay? What does this have to do with anything we are talking about now?

Analyst: Well...nothing. But by dropping this reference to the original show, people are supposed to feel endeared to me and then be shocked when I turn out to be the mole. Or, in lieu of that, use it as a way to make me the new Chloe. *Sigh* Look, I know...its dumb considering the reason people love Chloe is because of her characterization, not because of some contrived tie to a minor character from a previous season. And Nina made for a shocking mole because she was well developed and endeared herself to the audience...again, not just due to a tie to another minor character. But just go with it and I promise I won't show up again for the rest of the episode.

Analyst's boss: *shrugs and walks away*

My only complaint about last nights episode is that it would have been nice if he had gotten away with the money.
But, I guess we need cliffhangers for each episode.

Yeah the Edgar name drop was hilariously bad. Imagine if they start making it a regular thing...

My friend Chloe taught me...
My college roommate Nina once said...
My friend's friend Kim...

I'm going to wait to hear more buzz about this. I dont have a problem with a new guy taking the mantle but I'm still very sour at the producers for closing Jack's story out like THAT. Like, are you kidding me? After 9 seasons of saving the world, we end arguably one of the greatest, most compelling heroes in tv history's story by sending him off to a Russian prison to live out the rest of his days in torture and pain? Come on. Close Jack's story properly, please and I'll be ready to move on.

I feel the same way as you. Close Jack's story properly and I will be ready to move on as well. I have no problem with a new guy taking the mantel I just have a problem with how you left Jack and I just can't get into this show with Jack's fate being the way it is right now.

I enjoyed it overall. It's a shaky start to be sure, but I'm hoping the new characters will find their own feet and move away from retreading old ground. I don't have a lot of hope, but maybe it's a 'Force Awakens' type tactic -give the audience what they know first, then switch it up once they're on board.

Come on. Close Jack's story properly, please and I'll be ready to move on.

The sad part is, they did end Jack's story really, really well -and then they couldn't help themselves and made more, tacking on a crappy ending. Chances are having Jack shipped away to Russia won't actually be the ending of his story, but even so -the original where he was just on the run was great.

Here, it can be virtually anyone and it means nothing to me, or Eric for that matter. He doesn't know these people. There is nothing personal driving him (unlike season 1 with Jack).
.

I think you make a lot of valid points Matt. At this point the show is gambling purely on the strength of the franchise and not anything unique, but I do have to disagree with one point -there is definitely something personal driving Eric (whose name you claimed not to know :oldrazz:). Almost his entire team were wiped out, and he and his wife were attacked at his home. If that's not personal motivation to leap into action, I don't know what is.

They sure didn't waste any time ripping through almost every 24 trope in a single episode, that's for sure! Eric even has a bag of magic tricks.

I have no interest in this show but Jack was always going to have a bleak ending.

I'll miss those, "TELL ME WHERE THE BOMB IS!" lines from Jack.

They are repeating EP 1 and 2 tomorrow night starting at 8 pm Eastern time

I noticed the new guy has inherited the man purse from Bauer when I saw the ending of the 1st episode.

It started here in Perth (Australia) last night. I quite enjoyed seeing the 24 format back.

However, right after the showing the new season of Homeland started! This caused some not so little confusion as both are of a similar theme. And didn't POTUS candidate Jimmy Smits in 24 also become President in West Wing? And POTUS-elect Elizabeth Marvel in Homeland previously was a candidate in House of Cards!

I still desperately want some kind of resolution of Jack Bauer's situation . . . please.

So does anyone else find it odd that President Jimmy Smitts is a different race than his parents?

and Gerald McRaney is only 8yrs older than Jimmy Smits

In total agreement with Matt. I'm now fast forwarding the next two episodes in hopes of Tony showing up. If not, I'm out.
