24: Live Another Day - Part 2

I loved the finale. I think this season get's the benefit of the doubt because they had to do it in 12 episodes. I'm sure they wanted more time to develop certain characters, but the half season format wouldn't allow for that.

Kiefer still knows how to bring it. His reaction after getting the news, and when he pulls out his glock, you sit there and wonder, and then he pulls it together. Freaking classic Jack!

Even though the guy brought it on himself, I did feel for Boudreau at the end. He acted out of jealousy, and also out of a protection because he truly does love Audrey and cares for the President. He made amends for himself in the last episode by helping Jack at risk to his own life. Most of the time, these type of characters, I could care less about, but Tate Donovan did an excellent job of bringing sympathy to the character.

I still consider day 8:24 to be the series finale, this was a one off production. I say that because I thought that episode was in the top 5 series finales of all time, and I say that because it aired shortly after the Lost series finale, which I would rate as one of the 5 worst series finales.

But I would say the LAD finale was up there with Day 8. I need to contemplate this. One thing I do like is the very uncertainty of what happens to Jack. He's going to Russia to answer for what happened with his assassination attempt on Suvarov. He will likely face the death penalty. If there is no more 24, you are left to wonder the fate of Jack.

Personally I think this should be the last of 24. I was a bit nervous about this season, because I thought they might be pressing their luck. But this ending is perfect, and I think they should leave it there.

If you rethink my 'trilogy of trilogies' and take in consideration that this was the "end";

Than this finale works perfectly. He really can't run anymore, he's saved the one last person who needed saving (Chloe) and his smirk was sort of him reasoning with his own surrender. He's done all he can do, and he's fine sailing into the sunset of death...

Can't believe how divisive this finale is. The critics are raving about it while it seems the fanbase is decidedly more mixed (especially on one of the biggest 24 fan pages, 24 Spoilers.) Seems the big kerfuffle is over Audrey's death and how they did the time jump without the emotional aftermath with Jack and the other characters. I'd say that's the big trade-off with having such a limited number of episodes and getting as much emotional depth/backstory as a traditional 24 season, which seems to to be a major complaint among some fans.

They did the same thing in season 8 after Renee was killed. The thing about this show is you have to go in knowing that pretty much everyone but Jack is fair game.

I don't know if the series ends.....people would consider this a bad series finale probably would compare to Dexter and HIMYM.....if they continue the series and resolve the Russian storyline for good with a final series finale....people would be happy

I agree. It's almost his release from freedom of a life of pain and sorrow. But again, I like that it's left up to interpretation. He's definitely going to face the death penalty, but whether that happens or not, you don't know.

Plus, I and many others couldn't handle an on-screen Bauer death.

This is perfect and more 'tied up' than the obvious loose-ended Day 8 finale.

Bauer know he has lost all he can lose, and has fought all that he can fight.

And even then, the producers did consider having Jack buy the farm. Yvonne Strahovski said there were several versions of the finale and while she didn't exactly go into specifics, I have a feeling that they played around with who died/survived and that what we got was in keeping one eye possibly to the future while the other on a possible permanent finale.

Totally, it's the most clear cut ending we've had out of Day 6 and Day 8.

Yet, if they came back for one more run... it wouldn't feel like a retcon or bad.

I have a feeling Jack won't be in Russian Custody for now........I have a feeling over his last 4 year he been gather evidence on the Russians and giving to Chole to expose them for good

True, and I think they haven't totally given up on the idea of a movie, if they can agree on a script, which was the problem in getting it done previously. I'm sure they considered that, but realized if they have jack die in an explosion you're going to have a hell of a time explaining that away, unless it's a prequel, which I think would be even more difficult to do.

I'm sure Kate was considered a candidate, but it wouldn't have had the emotion that was attached to Audrey. I know the writers said they hadn't made up their mind until midway through production, but I'm sure it became pretty clear. The way the death effected Jack, Boudreau and Heller, it was an emotional bombshell.

It's a possibility, but I think the series moves forward only as a film. I think we've seen the last of the episodic format of 24.

A lot will depend on the ratings from last night, but for the previous episode had remained flat in viewership. It was competing against hour 2 of the bachelorette and American Ninja Warrior, so we'll see how it does.

The reason 24 ended after season 8, was the ratings had been stagnant, they did not see a bump even brining Katee Sackhoff fresh off her Battlestar fame, to the show. Also the show was incredibly expensive to produce. Doing a show in "real time" format, when they shoot a scene, they only have so much time to do it, especially a day time scene.

They can't just say, they will do more episodes, Fox has to agree to renew, and most likely they'll chose another "one off" format like this with fewer episodes, as it's much cheaper to produce.

I am expect another 12 episode of 24......season 10 or it would LAD part 2. Since Fox Entertainment got a new president and someone mention they are fan of the show........it will come back. I believe Kiefer is responsible for the final few episode of 24 LAD in term of story so maybe he does want more

God tier, that finale was god tier 24. There's definitely going to be another season, the ratings are really strong (especially on L+7 numbers), the season ends on a cliffhanger, they're having a panel at the SDCC, why the hell would they have a panel if this was really a one-off 12 episode "miniseries".

Just a great season. Man oh man. I'm really happy. It could end this way and I'd still be happy.

I liked the ending a lot, and the short season over all. I expect we'll see another 12 episode season, it worked so well. Jack going Rambo after getting the bad news was great.

Jack had a nasty edge to him all season long. The events of S8 were carried over well. After the bad news he went into complete ass kicking overdrive.

I think I'm pretty safe in saying that I don't think any death would affect me as much as if they killed off Bauer on screen.

Man, my favorite moment of the episode:

Jack: Chloe, you were right...about being my best friend. (Holds her hand) Thank you.

Man, that got me in the feels! Its truly amazing how Jack and chloe's relationship has evolved through the years.

Yep yep yep yep. By the way, Cassar just said in an interview that they toyed around with the idea of killing off Jack, but never found a satisfying way enough to do it, he said it needs to be done perfectly if ever done, and it just never felt right.

During the episode, I kept waiting for Kate to call Jack to give him the news, kept wanting him to go into berserk mode, and it felt so satisfying when he did. :D

Best line from the show ever:

Jack "wake the ****** up!"

I felt bad for Jack, he just can't get a break every woman he's ever loved (with the exception of Kim & Chloe) has died. Man I really had hope he'd have an happy ending with Audrey. I hope the series continues with a fitting finale for Jack Bauer.

If they could have it air over the summer like this season, it might work again. The ratings for LAD were way down over even what season 8 was. The show peaked in Season 5 with the Logan story line, which is one of my favorite seasons. Day 6 was down, but Day 7 went back up with the return of Tony.

Last night was a 21% increase in viewership over the prior episode, but overall this season has not compared well to previous seasons of 24.

At the end of the day it's all about ratings and the expense of the show, and as I said 24 has been a very, very expensive show to produce, which is one of the factors they decided to end after season 8.

I won't say "never", because clearly the show ends with the door cracked open, although there is a certain finality in the ending.

I had originally thought the ending would be Boudreau sacrificing himself to save the day, and he would be the one in the casket with the President forgiving him for laying down his life and the implication that Jack and Audrey would end up together. Boy was I wrong! :)

Yeah, after all Jack's been through the guys really deserves if not a happy ending, a peaceful one. I tell you man, the writers of this show are just relentless with Jack and his loved ones. How much can one man take? He's like the modern version of Charles Bronson.

I really hope this next season gives Jack some much needed closure.
