6.04 Arrow - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

There is absolutely no denying that this specific green arrow clearly resembles BAtman. The death of rich parents, billionaire playboy, the relationship with lois, the "no powers with stealth" superhero, the previous relationship with lex, and even the music sounds very batman-ish.

man, some of you just pick apart a great episode way too much, why don't you just enjoy some obvious cool superhero action before our eyes? GA was awesome, Clark was awesome, the whole episode rocked!

I'm not sure if your comment was directed towards me, but i thought that was one of the best smallville episodes period. I always did, and deep down inside, will always want batman/wayne, but sicne we aren't ever going to get that, i'm more than happy that they are making an effort to do something similar.

Agreed.

Green Arrow also dealt with the death of rich parents, was a billionaire playboy, had a relationshipe with Lois at one point, also has no powers but trick arrows and stealth, ect ect.

You have to take a look at Golden Age Green Arrow, which is probably where they got much of their idea for this interpretation of Green Arrow. At least they are not putting in an Arrow Cave and Arrow-mobile, which Green Arrow in the comics had at one point.

Sheesh... ;)

I kno Clark is supposed to be a boyscout but was anyone else annoyed at how, even after Arrow tells him that Lionel bought the jewel off the black market, he wants the stolen artifact given back to Lionel? I mean c'mon...theres boyscout and then theres idiot. Sometimes the end does justify the means, and hopefully Ollie will teach Clark that.

Oh and I'm not surprised by the ritual Lana-hating. I for one cheered during the scene where Lana went hard-ass on that nerdy little push-over. Most likely it was just an act. Highly doubt she's going evil. I mean, dont yall remember her line about trying to protect Lex from himself. That means she's trying to keep him from being evil...so she cant possibly turn that way herself.

I wasn't annoyed by Clark's initial reactions. During his first meeting, he had little reason to believe Ollie, when Ollie told him these things

1)Ollie offered no empirical evidence, only his word
2)Ollie was leading a double life
3)He broke into a building

That was three strikes right there. Though obviously, by the end of the show, Clark had changed his mind, upon reviewing the subject.

Whats with the Elfman/Batman like tunes coming on when Ollie shows up as Arrow?

Wasn't it only at the beginning? It's a nice homage, which they use sparingly - like they do the Williams' theme when Clark is having iconic Superman moments. They used it in Vengeance too.

i want to hear the superman march more...it gives me shivers everytime...

REMINDER:

CW is rebroadcasting ARROW tonight, Sunday 10/22/06, at 7pm ET.

The time slot was previously occupied by now the now canceled show, Runaway.

I'm wearing Hulk's hat again this week. My ridiculously long review is now up at The Kingdom. ;)

(ignore the typo errors.. late night editing, ya know?)

Nice review 'Rene. I never really noticed the trend of SV drowning Lois. Interesting take. I too felt that it was a well acted episode. I just can't agree with Lana. There was just something off with all of her scenes. I know the writers want her to seem ambiguous but...............I don't know.

Thanks, blksupes. Poor Erica! LOL.. I would hate to do those scenes too, I also have water/drowning issues, so it was really obvious to me.
And that's okay about seeing the Lana issue differently. That's actually my point. :D

Great review, but watch out! You might take away Hulk's review duties.

Thanks. And, naaah, Hulk's much more the DC expert than I am.. and far less.. uh, verbose. I think his job is perfectly safe. ;)

The thing I find hard to swallow about Lana in this show was that she basically outsmarted a guy who was assigned to work on uncovering Alien Technogly, the guy has to be a genious but Lana, who's greatest achieve in life thus far is putting the Beenery out of business, easily outsmarts him.

i think Erica should get wet more often than she is now

like pools, lakes, tubs of ice cold water.................

Well I wouldn't say she outsmarted him. There's a big difference from wits and intellect. She threatened the man's livelihood. Obvious he believed that the girlfriend of one of the richest and most power men in the world could actually cause harm to his family.

A guy like that would never find himself in that stituation witha girl like Lana, if it had been with Lex or Lionel I could buy it but we're not even told how she found this stuff out she just knows.

Serene I'm blown away by how fantastic that was. Did you enjoy doing it?

I picked up the colors of the outfits, and especially Lana's white Jacket and black shirt. Does that mean she's good on the outside, but there's something dark brewing underneath?

Hmm.....

Ah ha! This goes back to my theory that she wasn't playing a part that Lex wrote out for her. Why would he say the whole thing about blackmail not being one of her talents or whatever if he had given her the information himself?
