6.05 Subterranean discussion thread

[Eddie Brock]

Yes Clark showed the strong Characteristics that SUPERMAN will embody in the future . And The Ending with Lex walking towards the exit out of Level 33.1 as well as a brand new shot of Metropolis and The Daily Planet in the daytime was the only good stuff featured in this bad episode.



Other than that it sucked big time.

1. Bad Krypto-freak [A farmer moleman], The effect were awful

2. Bad actor [The Kid was awful] named Javier

3. The Whole Lana & Clark scene [Freaking pointless]

4. Jimmy [ Damnit I want to see the real Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen And The Jimmy Olsen who looks up to Clark Kent as a mentor, not this guy called Jimmy.]

5. Chloe [She becoming very annoying again.]

6. Martha Kent [her first reaction to finding out Clark had hid the illegal boy on the farm and was ready to turn him in to the police. WTF How many times has Martha had starys hidding on the kent farm and not report them in and suddendly out of no where she wanted to turn this boy in.] Whoever wrote that should be shot. Because that was way out of Character for Martha Kent .

7. No Lionel

9. No Oliver

This episode sucked .

As it stands now the best episode of the first half of the season is

The Young Justice preview didn't impress me like it did my Sister .

i can agree with those rankings
although, i'd put Static at bottom of all-time
and Subterranean down there with the other bad FOTW eps

I swear. kept flashing back to Scooby Doo, even his overalls was SO Scooby bad-guy-esque.

Yeah, I would have loved if Jed had said something to Clark about meddling or maybe being "pesky"!

With everything else going on, I forgot to post this. Oopz! Guess it's all water under the bridge now, but oh well...

Now Pat how come you haven't picked up on this scene. You're usually the first on the ball with this stuff.

Jimmy and Chloe are talking at the Daily Planet. Jimmy tells Chloe that she must have a guardian angel, they move in for a kiss, and we then get a shot of Clark in his white t-shirt.

Oh, I caught it. I also caught the dialog at the Talon that starts with Chloe making a point of telling Jimmy that "ship" has sailed, but is subsequently undone right after Chloe asks Jimmy to "define boyfriend." As if on perfect cue ala a Lenny and Squiggy "HELLO!" (Laverne & Shirley), Clark walks through the door. I died laughing. The dialog said one thing while the action said the complete opposite. Gotta luv how the SV writers enjoy yanking those "ships" back and forth.

The differences in what people notice on SV is pretty funny. For example...

• I *never* would have given "morning sickness" a second thought. Furthest thing from my mind - and in this case, apparently Lana's. LOL Hey, maybe she's one of those women that don't get morning sickness? Ya think? [shrugs]
  
• Javier's relatively perfect English and the crack about learning the language through American TV didn't phase me either. He's from Mexico, not Nepal. If he lived right over the border, he probably grew up speaking both languages. If they *wanted* to stereotype the kid, they could have cast a "perfect" stereotype. The whole point of the ep (I thought) was to get people to think outside of the box. Clark is just as much an alien as Javier is.
  
• Summer vs. Fall, vs. Winter? Corn height? T-Shirts vs. coats? Pfft. Doesn't bother me. SV isn't like "24" or Heroes; it's not *that* dependent on perfect episodic continuity. The main details, such as Lex's proposal, were addressed, so I'm good.
  
• Speaking of Heroes, I have to laugh at the suggestion that SV should hire better writers, "like the ones on Heroes." Yeah, and next people will be asking for similar directors. LMAO! Um... Oh jeeze. N'mind. The grass is always greener yada yada, and ignorance is bliss, I guess.
  
• Some people had issues with the AFI song, but I didn't even notice that. On the other hand, the music cues ("d'd'dum!") over Lana *****ing out Clark for his secrets and lies and how Lex doesn't lie to her, blah blah were quite effective. I'm kinda hoping Clark verbally lays into her in Crimson 'cause it will make holding back destroying my TV during that scene worth it. I'm guessing she's got one HELL of a wake-up call coming, possibly a meltdown of EPIC proportions. The more they make the audience abhor her for her apparent stupidity about Lex and how she treats Clark, the more people are going to be cheering when that humongous plate of Karma comes back and bites her in the tush. Oh well. She'll live LOL.

Now, the blatant stupidity that DID bug me...

• Martha's initial reaction to Clark hiding Javier in the barn. WTF? Aliens must have abducted her in the last episode.
  
• McNally can displace minerals? Okay, so why is he still working on a farm? You'd think he'd be burrowing through the earth collecting... oh... I dunno, maybe like gold or platinum or something?
  
• While I'm on McNally, why have a meteor freak in the episode at all? His reason for using the slave labor and subsequent murders of those who tried to escape work just as well if not better than introducing a meteor freak angle to the story.
  
• Clark sees the bodies on McNally's farm and calls the police. Um... and nobody asks him how he "saw" burried bodies?
  
• Clark superspeeds Javier from the police, but runs "normally" when Javier bolts into the corn field? Oh c'mon. It's not like he needed to hide his superspeed ability from Javier at that point. That *really* stood out to me. The only other times I can remember Clark running "normally" was in Aqua and when he doesn't have any powers.
  
• After that "great" battle with McNally in the corn field, Clark and Javier pleasantly just... walk away? And they leave McNally laying there on the ground? Is he dead? Is he alive? We don't know. Chloe gets her byline about McNally's capture, but then we see him on a table at LuthorCorp? What's going on? That was just all over the place wrong.

Aight, this ep had its problems, but it was easy to forgive. I'm a sucker for lotsa Clark, and this episode had him in spades - and white T-Shirts. So I guess I'm good. LOL

Blame the producers. Watch that scene again. They *wanted* to piss people off. Listen to the music cues. With each statement Lana makes to Clark, another stake is driven through his heart, not to mention people watching. It's all intentional. They're building up the animosity in Clark so viewers will feel he's justified (in a payback's a beyotch sort of way) in tearing into Lana (verbally.) She will be shown that Lex isn't what she was led to believe. It's all a part of the plan. Watch, you'll see. I'm convinced this is the writer's way of doling out a can of whoop ass on ALL of the characters, not just Lana. 'Cause you know Clark is going to feel like a complete jerk and a half after everything is over, and Lex may even find out that it was Clark who set Lana wise. We're heading to a showdown of epic proportions.

I find it scary how much you and I think alike. None of that stuff bothered me either.

Now I'm waiting for her to be proven wrong, and I'll be interested in how she deals with it and who she will turn to. I dont think I want to see Clark say "I told you so", cause that's really not him.

However, I have to say other than just watching Clark and his journey to becoming Superman, since that's the thing that matters most to me, its the Clark and Lana reconcillation that I am most interested in. Will Lana be humble, will she be over emotional, will she be angry.... and to see Clark's response to her reaction is going to be very interesting indeed.

I think it was really just a lapse in judgement. She's somewhat overcome with the power that the senatorial seat has given her. We saw her just prior to those scenes secretly cheering herself on for winning over a colleague.

· While I'm on McNally, why have a meteor freak in the episode at all? His reason for using the slave labor and subsequent murders of those who tried to escape work just as well if not better than introducing a meteor freak angle to the story.

Cause its Smallville, and that's what they do. Meteor Freaks.

I thought he just told the police what the immegrants told him, I would assume being the son of a senator would hold enough weight for them to go off that

I don't know if it was specified. I guess the fact that it wasn't made clear is what made it stand out. The fact that Clark is the son of Martha Kent shouldn't add much credence to his story, though his track record with the SV police would have. I'd think Clark would be on a first-name bases with the entire police dept, not to mention the SV Medical Center LOLOL!!

Well, they would have seen that big throwdown that happened right afterwards then. Nah, Javier and Clark were alone (apparently), and given how many times Clark *does* use his superspeed - sometimes right in the middle of a busy office or sidewalk - it just stood out. I guess we're just so used to seeing him zip from place to place that when he doesn't, we wonder if he's not feeling well. LOL

It's funny Patsy, because both of those instances stood out for me also. If you check a few pages back, I was making fun of the fact that Clark was running normally after Javier. I laughed out loud at that scene.

Plus the police thing, I could just picture the scene:

Clark: There are bodies buried everywhere!

Police: Did you see the man bury them?

Clark: uh...no.

Police: Did you stumble on one that was half unburied?

Clark: Well...not exactly.

Police: Then how do you know?

Clark: Um...well...you see...lucky guess.

At the end of Extinction, Lionel stole all of the information about the freaks out of Chloe's computer. When Lex took control of Luthorcorp, I'm sure he found these files.

They have not said so, but I think Chloe's freak list is what led him toward creating 33.1 and collecting the freaks. I am hoping they say as much. I don't think that is too far off base though.
