6 years later...

I went to a midnight showing on opening day, and I was so psyched! I saw that movie 5 times in the theaters. It totally captured the tone of the comics. If it hadn't been for the success of Spider-man, I don't think alot of these comic book movies would be made today.

That movie and Iron Man remain my two favorites of the genre.

I think it is one hell of a movie. The origin is put together so well emotionally. The moment Peter is bit by the spider, the moments where we get to know him, the moments where he learns his powers, and especially the death of uncle ben and all the related scenes hit me like bricks.

I suppose this thread is as good as any to mention that SM-1 is no longer the biggest domestic grossing comic book ever, even with inflation.

No prizes for what hero holds the new title.

'It's not about the money... It's about sending a message!'

which ironically the other hero excelled in too.

I re-watched the first one last night; I still got just as much enjoyment as I did 6 years ago.

It's still the highest grossing original (i.e., non-sequel) comic book movie. :hehe:
There was really no need to point that out, though. We're all more than well aware.

I was in 8th grade when the 1st one came out. Me and my buddies would talk about the trailers and rumors every single day until it's release. I got out of school at 2:50 and my Grandma took me to see it at 3:00. I was the 1st to see it in my class. I remember that Monday after it's release it was raining so we had to wait inside for school to start and I remember the buzz. The entire hallway was just talking bout the amazingness of Spider-man. It was a very magical time. Till this day I'm immediately transported back in time when I listen to the soundtrack. I love it. Still.

Holy :wow: The language and violence is hardcore.

Frank Miller Spider-man year one?

Too much of a kung fu movie. It's kinda cool, but not Spidey enough.

I remember going to see it in theaters on the night it was released. I was so excited and despite the theater not having AC (it broke) it was one of the most incredible things of those years for me. I'll never forget that monday when I went back to school that EVERYONE was talking about Spider-Man. In the school bus, hallways, homeroom, everywhere! Heck now that I think of it I remember waking up saturday morning the day after I saw it and turning in my bed looking for the remote and seeing it on the floor an me still half asleep in a daised motion tried to shoot webing at my remote to pull it towards me. I actually tried a few times before realizing what I was doing. Spider-Man was a great movie and along with X-Men helped get started the recent craze for super hero movies from this decade

I remember I took off work, went to the noon show, picked up my son from school & went back to see it again w/the kids.

That sounds awesome, that's something I'd love to get to do with my kids when there's something Id be proud to take them to.

The comics in the early days were pretty edgey and witty. Two things that hardly describe any of the Spider-man movies so no they neither captured the tone of the comics nor the literal transation of them either.

I recently watched the SM trilogy a couple of weeks ago and saw part of SM1 on TNT yesterday again. And I was thinking that in retrospect that this may be a near perfect adaptation of the Spidey comics.

Maybe the Silver Age Spidey comics, but a lot of the reasons why the comics are so popular are missing from Raimi's interpretation.

Having just watched it I can honestly say that is still holds up and is one of the best superhero movies. It really does a great job of focusing on the characters and developing them, unlike most action films. I have to say though, that the Green Goblin just seems way to cheesy and over the top as far as villains go. Dafoe does a great job as Norman, but the Goblin has that goofy laugh and some of his lines do have some cheesiness to them. The costume I don't mind(I didn't even when the film first came out).
But,overall I still love this film and the series.:woot:

I watched this movie the other night. It's not as good as SM2, but it's way better than SM3. I still love the final confrontation in the warehouse, as well as that Costume Montage, just pure awesomeness.
