82nd Annual Academy Awards

She put some women half her age (like Lindsay Lohan and Amy Winehouse) to shame.

You're not giving Bigelow enough credit. After all, Bea Arthur puts your examples to shame ;)

Bigelow is pretty hot. I didn't realize she was 58:wow:. She's superfit and very lovely.

I'm glad that The Hurt Locker won. Although, Avatar was a decent film with amazing visuals but that's all it had going for it. The story/writing was mediocre with so-so acting. District 9 was leagues better than it.

Also, IMHO, Hurt Locker, A Serious Man, Up, Up in the Air, District 9, Inglourious Basterds > Avatar.

This is so much truth.

Why the hell did you pick those two as examples :woot::woot:

Because there are corpses that put those two to shame.

I think the academy was pressured to give an award to a woman after 82 years. Therefore I think Bigelow being a female director had something to do with it. Otherwise the Oscar race would’ve been between Cameron and Tarantino.

Hey I'm a Big Avatar Fan, and The hurt locker was a really good film. I'm happy for it for winning Best picture. :woot: (yes people like me do exist :cmad: :oldrazz:) I didn't get upset about it. :awesome:

Avatar, Up, Up in the Air, Inglorious Bastards, District 9, The Blind Side. Were All great films too and i would have been happy if any of those won Best picture.

Precious and A Serious man were the only ones I didn't want to win BP. :hehe:

Or because she directed a film that deserved the award, which she did. :cwink:

How was it obvious he was playing along Crook??

He at one point gives an incredibly subtle smirk but that was only after he was hammered on for awhile. I don't think he was bitter as some were saying but he didn't seem amused in the least.

No, he was in on it.

Oscars: 'Grumpy' George Clooney was in on the joke, by the way...

New mullet, new girlfriend, new ‘tude, new dude? An uncharacteristically grumpy-faced George Clooney provided a show-within-a-show during last night’s Oscars.

In case anyone had turned against him for his pained facial expressions (if that’s the sort of weird thing you do; personally I found the feigned *****ery rather refreshing) or thinks it was a sign of a Clooney-Alec Baldwin-Steve Martin feud, know that Clooney was in on the joke, at least during co-hosts Baldwin and Martin’s opening banter (Baldwin said “Oh, look, it’s George Clooney”; the two exchanged an evil eye; Baldwin took a long pause and simply moved on). “Both Alec and Steve told him ahead of time,” Clooney’s rep told EW. We have yet to hear from the lower quadrant of his hair. Story developing….

Anyone surprised? Are you serious?

Of the BP nominees, I have seen:

Avatar
District 9
Inglorious Basterds
Up
Up in the Air

I just rented The Hurt Locker tonight and will watch it soon. I plan on reviewing each Oscar nominee either in a thread I made a while ago (that I need to get going again), or in here. I'm prob 2 weeks from being able to post full reviews for all, though. Still have to get An Education, A Serious Man, and then get Precious on DVD when that comes out. Then The Blind Side. Was that put on DVD yet?

Well there has only been four other women including Bigelow nominated for best director in the entire 82 year history of the academy awards. So who knows when the next time a woman will ever be nominated again in this category. It was an historic night for women, but at the same time Bigelow will also be remembered as the former wife of James Cameron.

Direction is definitely a film field dominated by men in Hollywood. Her winning is no small feat. Especially considering some of the other nominees for that award. Best Director had a very strong field of competition this year.

You're just not going to give her any credit for winning this thing, are you?

She directed an incredible movie and deserved the award. And yes, I think she deserved it over James Cameron. Sure, it makes great ratings to finally give the award to a woman (especially when she's the ex-wife of the frontrunner), but in this case it was well-earned.

Have you even see The Hurt Locker?

Let's also not forget, people in that specific field choose the Oscar nominees. So, it wasn't the academy who nominated her, it was other directors in the academy who nominated her. I don't think she was a bad choice for winner at all, and I am a big fan of both Cameron and QT.

Someone made that point about Sandra Bullock winning too. She also won the SAG for Best Actress, which is voted on by other actors. So it's not just an Oscar-politics thing. People just thought it was the best performance.

(and I was very happy she won) :woot:
