Not this year, no. The Dark Knight Rises is a great movie but it was never gonna get nominations. No ****ing way.

Yeah, I just realized that. I forgotten all about it actually!

I feel like Leo was all wrong for the J. Edgar role, despite his best efforts.

I agree it wasn't but it deserved a few technical ones like sound mixing and visual effects

I thought she was fine, I just do not think the role was that good.

As for Nolan, I think the fact that they put dreck like Snow White and the Huntsman in VFX over TDKR shows a continuation of the hatred. I think he will have to make an earnest historical drama about one of the Academy's pet issues before they ever acknowledge him as a serious filmmaker. Oh well, they have a history of being that blind.
I thought that Huntsman's Vxf were just fine. I would have liked to see TDKR nominated for VFX but the Oscars are obsessed with obvious uses of CGI so I see why it didn't. get a nom. It's dumb I know.

I think TDKR deserved a VFX nom just for the Bat alone. I've never seen a Hollywood flying vehicle move with so much weight.

Corbould being up for both Skyfall and TDKR likely resulted in some vote splitting. Perhaps why neither got a vfx nod.

Warner Bros campaigned for 4 films and that was likely a mistake.Especially since two films got shut out. That might have cost Affleck a nomination.

I didn't get WB's hard push for Rises. The TDK kind of buzz just wasn't there, it was never there.

BTW I think it's true to blame it's lower than expected boxoffice on the horrific shooting but I think it's ******** to blame that on it not getting a best pic nom. That's just me.

I LOVED TDKR.... but did people here honestly expect nominations? Come on now... this isn't our first rodeo.

:o

Sawyer is right (I know, right :funny:). I don't think Rises ever had Oscar buzz at all and people who did think they were ever going to get nominated for BP is ridiculous.

Poor Leo.

Some surprising snubs and nominations this year. Having watched Flight last night, I'm quite glad to see that Denzel got a nomination for Best Actor. But I'm not happy to see Ben Affleck be snubbed for Best Director. He deserves a nomination.

Regarding Rises not being nominated for a single award, I don't mind that it hasn't been nominated for any major awards because it doesn't really deserve it. But the fact it didn't get nominated for an award such as Best Visual Effects seems kind of absurd, considering that the VFX made a lot of the film's grander moments seem more believable, whether it was blowing up bridges around Gotham or the Bat flying around. What a shame.

Oh but thank god Hooper wasn't nominated for Best Director.

Anyone to suggest The Dark Knight Rises was locked outta nods because of Aurora are what I calls "morons."

AKA Mike Fleming of Deadline.

I’d like to add a timely aside about Nolan: I recall emerging from a summer IMAX preview screening of The Dark Knight Rises feeling confident the film and its maker would be in the center of the Oscar conversation, for completing his trilogy as strongly as Jackson did The Lord Of The Rings. All of that was shattered by the violence in an Aurora, Colorado midnight screening days later, which stamped The Dark Knight Returns in a completely unexpected context.

And he even didn't get the title right. :funny:

I think the real travesty of all this is that SWATH got more noms than Moonrise Kingdom.

Especially since I'd say the direction, cinematography, score and editing were all better than the screenplay.

It was pretty much confirmed that Rises wouldn't receive any major nominations when reports of Academy members leaving screenings unimpressed surfaced. I never expected any major nominations anyway. Still surprised it wasn't nominated for any technical or sound categories.

Would've liked to have seen Javier Bardem be nominated for Skyfall, but his performance is similar in quite a few ways to some previous Oscar winners.

I'll have to agree with all of that. Moonrise Kingdom was impressive.

A number of sites are pimping out Silver Linings Playbook as Lincoln's biggest threat. Is this real life?

Nolan was snubbed for Best Director for Inception. Yeah... they have a grudge against him. Same as Spielberg during the 70s/80s.

It's jealously.

At least Spielberg got nominated a few times in that period. That's more than Nolan.

Yes it is. Major nominations and you always have Weinstein.
