91st Annual Academy Awards

Bale strikes me as someone who will campaign up to a point so that the movie gets seen by a large audience. I know he used to hate doing press, and probably still does but he seems more accepting of its role in getting films seen, and as he hasn't done a blockbuster since 2012, I think he enjoys getting smaller projects seen.

But when it becomes about campaigning for himself, he doesn't give a fig. I read that he didn't attend any of the parties after nominations went out while people were snarking that Rami Malek was at every one of them. Sadly that played a role, I'm sure.

Yeah, Bale's 'campaign' is really more for the film (press junkets, interviews, etc.) rather than himself. Notice how he's never had a tribute for him when he's ripe for one. The closest one is the one at Telluride but that one is partnered with the premiere of Hostiles. He usually does the bare minimum required but I noticed he does a bit more when he likes the director/project and there's no one but him to do the promotion (see Out of the Furnace, Hostiles). I feel like his co-stars (like Amy bless her sweet generous heart) campaign for him more than himself. :funny:

Kind of a forgettable oscars with clear poltical motivations in the end. Alot of smaller awards speeches dragged on and outside of shallow performed and spider verse winning there wasn't that many big moments.

On a side note im getting real sick of racism themed movies and old victorian period pieces with women having white painted faces.

Im just gonna say it was alittle uncomfortable to digest and alittle over the top in the flamboyant category

Lawd. I don't feel like going back and quoting everything, but to be clear, I didn't hate Green Book because it wasn't the movie I wanted it to be. I hated it because it was a trash film. I hated it because I found it to be antithetical to the message it was clearly trying to pump out.

Ali's character is one of the most egregious examples of the Magical Negro cliche in recent years and this is after I saw Dave Chappelle show up just to make Bradley Cooper smile for two scenes. But the whole thing stings that much more because his blackness is something he has to be educated on by a white character. And that's just so far away from any real life black experience that it descends clumsily into fairytale. I had to, in one of the most upsetting viewing experiences of my life, watch Mortensen force fried chicken into Ali's face in an attempt to a) enlighten him on his blackness and b) prevent him from actually finishing his thought. And rather than treat that moment with any sense of nuance or thoughtfulness, it's played for laughs. Shirley just ends up loving fried chicken and Lip gets to be right about a harmful and stupid ass stereotype.

Yes, every biopic exaggerates. But if you're going to base something on a true story revolving around the touchiest subject in American history, at least make some attempt to behold yourself to the actualities of that subject. It's such a ******* shame to me that I even have to argue that concept of fidelity to real life people on a site that's still filling gallons of tears over Superman breaking a neck and being kind of sad.

IMO The Prestige >>>>>

And I still think it would've been a bigger critical and commercial success if it was released after TDK. Heck, if that was released after TDKR, it wouldn't surprise me if Bale and/or Jackman got acting nods.

I like The Prestige but I personally put Inception higher. To me, the whole sci fi twist The Prestige throws in kinda feels like a cheat.

So every show right now is talking about Gaga giving Bradley Cooper the **** me eyes during their duet. She just broke up with some other dude didn't she?

Irina should totally burn Cooper's stuff, good lord! The sexual tension was so palpable I almost fell off my chair

I didn't have a problem with the sci-fi twist (in fact, I think it's what sets it apart from other "magic" films) but I didn't care for the whole Fallon twist. I didn't see it coming the first time I saw it but then I ended up kicking myself for not guessing it. So I guess it worked, but only because I am stupid, lol.

Also, it feels a little sleazy because you're left wondering, "Wait, did Bale's twin brother bang his wife without her knowledge?"

That’s one of the reasons The Prestige is such a cold movie, IMO. Neither of the leads is a good person.

Yeah, but they seemed to kinda want you to root for Bale. And I think you could, if you just resolve it in your mind that the twin didn't sleep with her (which is possible, though not probable).

Well one of the twins genuinely loves his wife (or as much as you can say he loves her while hoodwinking her like that) and the other is banging Scarlett Johansson, so I doubt if he was having sex with the wife.

It’s still seriously messed up what they put the wife through and how they ultimately drive her to suicide though, albeit unintentionally.

There are those rumours BCoop is gay and if he is this dude is the greatest actor alive

Eh, Cooper and Gaga performance was better than the one we got in the movie. Twitter always exaggerate stuff tho. Only a fool would cheat on Irina with Gaga. lol

Twitter is that unpopular acquaintance at school who tries so hard to be part of the popular group yet is clueless about the reality of life.
