93rd Annual Academy Awards

Who composed such a racist song?

At least Husavik got a nomination for best original song for the Oscars.
Husavik should win this IMO.

Also, I find it so hilarious that Borat: Subsequent Movie Film has a CHANCE to get one, maybe even two Oscar nominations! After everything they've done to Sacha over the years...

If I remember correctly, the first movie also was nominated for best original screenplay

I haven't seen News of the World yet, but I'm pretty jazzed at Helena Zegel is getting so much recognition for it. She was excellent in System Crasher.

Interesting that Sylvie's Love is in the TV movie category there. I didn't realize that was how Amazon was submitting it.

The Golden Globes, and HFPA by association, have been losing credibility at an ever-increasing rate over the past couple of years alone. If they keep it up, maybe there won't be a Golden Globe Awards anymore in the future. They kind of just feel like consolation prizes for Oscars and Emmys anyway.

Whoa whoa whoa! Losing credibility? They had credibility? I thought it was always just a party to have the biggest stars show up, get them drunk and broadcast live so great stuff could go down like drunk Gerard Depardieu!

Fair point, but now it seems like they're not only getting drunk at the ceremony, but they're clearly not sober when they make decisions like nominating James Corden for Prom.

The Globes are good for two things:

- Drunk celebrities making fools of themselves on live television
- Getting recognition to comedies

And half the time they fill up 'Musical or Comedy' with random stuff like "The Martian" so you can barely even get that. Like... where is Cristin Milioti's nomination while Kate Hudson is scoring a nom for the disaster that is "Music"

Silly question, but why *didn't* they nominate The Martian to a more appropriate category?

Honestly....I stand by The Martian in comedy. The majority of that movie was very funny. The Globes have had plenty of iffy movies in that category but I never had a problem with that one.

I agree. Martian was very funny over the time. I cant remember a single sad scene to be honest. Even his dangerous escape fly in the space was filled with humor "I fly like Ironman".

A huge difference between Oscars and Globes is, that Globes really dont give an extra bonus for movies with POC leading, it still feel like the price of the "old white man".
I mean no One Night In Miami, Black Judas, Da 5 Blood or Ma Raineys as best picture is a choice (they could cannibalize each other though). At least 3 of them will be nominated for best picture without a doubt. And I cant see the globes will honor Boseman-Davis-Kaluuya + Zhao in the same year, what the Oscars will most likely do by now.

Yeah, The Martian is a little too light-hearted to be considered a drama. But on a similar note, the Globes also nominated Pulp Fiction as a drama in 1995 and that movie is far closer to being a comedy.

Yep. I think the simplest answer is probably right - They couldn't fit The Martian in drama, but they wanted Damon and co. at the party so they called it a Comedy.

The Martian is a lot more of a drama than Pulp Fiction is. I’d consider it a comedy-drama at most.

I legit forgot the Golden Globes is happening this Sunday.
