From these lists of winners, I’d go with Brie Larson and Joaquin Phoenix as the best of the bunch for the 2010s.

2016 Lead Actor and Lead Actress should have gone to Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, both for Fences. Those are my personal picks.

'Mank' Wins Top Film Prize at American Society of Cinematographers Awards

“Mank” cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt has won the feature-film award from the American Society of Cinematographers at the 35th annual ASC Awards, which were handed out in a ceremony that streamed live from the ASC clubhouse in Hollywood on Sunday afternoon.

The winners:

Feature Film: Erik Messerschmidt, ASC for “Mank”

Spotlight: Aurélien Marra for “Two of Us”

Documentary: Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw for “The Truffle Hunters”

Motion Picture, Limited Series, or Pilot Made for Television: Steven Meizler for “The Queen’s Gambit” – “End Game”

Episode of a One-Hour Television Series – Commercial: Jon Joffin, ASC for “Motherland: Fort Salem” – “Up is Down”

Episode of a One-Hour Television Series – Non-Commercial: Fabian Wagner, ASC, BSC for “The Crown” – “Imbroglio”

Board of Governors Award: Sofia Coppola

It's their decision.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of them were already vaccinated anyways.

Probably.

And I get it, nobody wants to see celebrities at home on Zoom. It's why the Golden Globes was a complete bust. We want to see them all in the same room where crazy things can go down.

2014 and 2018 lead actor should have gone to Michael Keaton and Christian Bale
Bale deserved the Oscar for Vice just for that scene where he gargled with the brown Listerine. What a maniac.

I was rooting for Bale more than Malek.
I was happy with Malek's win since at the time I had only seen Bohemian Rhapsody and hadn't watched Vice yet, but Bale disappeared into the role. I still think Malek's performance was Oscar worthy since to be fair, he did accurately embody Freddie Mercury, but when I watched Vice there were times I forgot I was watching Bale. I guess this was another case of the Academy giving it to the nominee who didn't yet have an Oscar.

I thought they were both good but personally I'd put Bale>Malek.
