96th Annual Academy Awards

When you see who actually won Best Supporting Actress that year...yeah, Michelle Pfeiffer could have gotten at least a nomination for Returns. That's not to say that Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny is a bad performance at all because it isn't, but it's no more Oscar worthy than Pfeiffer in Returns.

At least My Cousin Vinny is still talked about, does anyone know anybody who brings up *checks the notes*

Husbands and Wives, Enchanted April, Howards End, or Damage?

They could have fit Pfeiffer in there and taken one of the other actresses out.... but that was a different era of old stuck-up white male voters who dominated the Academy who would never view comic book movies seriously.

The academy giving Pfeiffer a nomination for Love Field (Look it up, it's a real movie) in 1993 was absolutely a secret nod for Batman Returns.

The real snub was for The Age of Innocence. Winona Ryder getting the acting praise that year over Pfeiffer is baffling... And I adore Ryder.

I assume we are getting a 40th anniversary Scarface reunion here.

I'd be surprised if they did. That movie is more shunned now compared to about 20 years ago when it was still very much in pop culture consciousness because as memorable a performance Pacino gave in it, it's still brownface for all intents and purposes. Something tells me the Academy isn't going to celebrate that, especially since it wasn't even nominated for any Oscars back in the day anyway.

My Cousin Vinny is awesome. Probably should have won Best Script for Dale Launer. The dialogue & situations are absolutely hilarious. Somehow Marissa Tomei was the only nominee for this film. Joe Pesci should have been nominated for Best Actor and Fred Gwynne as the Judge should have been nominated for Supporting Actor. Jonathan Lynn should have been nominated for Best Director as well.

I'll be shocked if they dont pan to Bradley Cooper when Cillian wins the Oscar.

My Cousin Vinny is timeless. I can watch that stuttering courtroom scene a thousand times and still laugh like its the first time I saw it.
In addition to being a genuinely great and hilarious film, My Cousin Vinny is actually one of the most accurate courtroom dramas of all time. All of the law and procedure is spot-on, which is why my evidence prof in law school actually in all seriousness showed clips to teach topics.

I want Cooper to win for something that's actually interesting so it all works out in the end.
Cooper was good in Maestro but I was more moved by his voice performance in GOTG Vol. 3 to be honest.

Cooper will win Best Actor eventually. But most likely for something he didn’t also direct himself in lol

Yep. In the 95-year history of the Academy Awards, there have only been two instances where an actor won Best Actor for a performance in a movie they also directed. I don't know if Cooper wants to be number 3 or what, but if he's mainly concerned with just winning an Oscar, he needs to get on the phone with some directors.

Yep, the legal accuracy is another reason Vinny should have won Best Script. The dialogue & situations are hilarious, and the legal procedural aspect is not a bunch of BS like we see in so many other movies.
