A Buffy the vampire slayer reboot movie?!

Whether you like it or not, Buffy is one of those generation defining TV shows and to restart it after it only ended a few years ago is the very definition of Pointless.

It would be like if they rebooted Star Trek back in the 70's while all the characters were still young and popular, but WAIT! No Spock, Checkov, Bones, Sulu Scotty or Uhura...
Just Kirk...

i figured, with the popularity of vampires right now (twilight, true blood, etc..), the buffy-verse would be resurrected. to me sarah michelle gellar IS buffy. but if they must cast new people in a 'buffy' movie, you need the show's supporting characters (xander, willow, etc...) and not just something new.

I think if this movie ever hits pre-production and casting in earnest, won't Whedon get a "characters created by" or "based upon the 1992 screenplay by" credit? Either way, he'll get paid for it.

But if he has nothing to do with the story, who cares if he is getting paid? He is still not involved.

I can just see it now. The trailer for the reboot.

Well, here's where Anthony Stewart Head stands on the movie...
With his appearances on Doctor Who and Little Britain, Head says he’s been lucky enough to have four or five iconic English shows under his belt — “What I always find fascinating is I am all things to all men” — but in America, where he has a home in Los Angeles, he’ll always be famous for playing Sarah Michelle Gellar’s sage mentor on Buffy. “Every time I think, ‘Well, everybody must have forgotten it by now,’ there’s a whole new audience. Young kids coming up to me and saying, ‘I love Buffy!’ ” And being so close to the series, which lasted for seven seasons (1997-2003), he understands why there’s been so much fan outrage this week when it was announced that Fran Rubel Kuzui, the director of the original 1992 Buffy movie starring Kristy Swanson, and her husband Kaz were working on a new film without the involvement of series creator Joss Whedon (who also wrote the original movie’s first script).

Doing a Buffy movie without Whedon? “I wouldn’t want to see it, no,” Head admits. “The Kuzuis didn’t do a great job on the movie the first time around. It was Joss’ script at the age of 19, but they changed a lot of it. They said, ‘Look, we know best and we know how to make this movie,’ and it became quite schlocky and high camp.” Head recalls the time when he went to audition for the Buffy series because he loved Whedon’s pilot script so much, and his agent advised him to watch the movie to get the tone of the show before his screen test. “So I did and I went, ‘Oh, that’s not it at all.’ I went in and saw Joss and said, ‘I watched the movie last night!’ And he went, ‘Oh. Did ya?’ I just put it out of my mind. The bottom line is if a movie was ever to be made, it should be made with Joss Whedon, whether it’s a retrospective or not. But it would be madness to do it without him. [The Kazuis] have the rights to because they have the rights to the original movie, but it should be interesting to see. It may be a bit like watching a car wreck.”

You guys ought to look at the bright side. You might actually get a director who understands what subtlety is and does not beat you over the head with his obvious metaphors :oldrazz: :cwink:

Replying to the original message:

This is a terrible idea.
Buffy without Whedon or the original cast? Count me out.

I kid, I kid.

You'll probably get McG or something :(

Oh God. As usual she's always the first person rumored for any female action role.:facepalm

http://movies.ign.com/articles/993/993642p1.html

June 10, 2009 - Two weeks after she slammed Wonder Woman and reportedly passed on playing Lara Croft comes a rumor about another genre film that Transformers starlet Megan Fox is reportedly under consideration to star in.

Cinefools claims to have heard from an industry source that Fox is being eyed to play the title role of Buffy Summers in the recently announced big-screen relaunch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The new movie will not involve Joss Whedon or be tied in anyway to either the 1992 film or the TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar that followed.

We recommended Fox, along with several other young hotties, to play the vampire slayer in our recent Buffy Casting Couch column.

IGN contacted Buffy producer Roy Lee about the rumor, who said, "The rumors of Megan Fox being involved with Buffy are just rumors. As with any film project with a female lead under the age of 30, Megan is the actress that most studios want so it is no surprise her name is mentioned. While I think she would be great for our project, we are still in the early stages of developing the script."

The studio actually wants her the most? They must really want this to be a big flop.

What's she gonna be rumored for next? Catwoman? Black Cat? Elektra in a Daredevil reboot?

I'm sick of just hearing her name.

I am completely against this movie but if they where to recast B. the only person that would work is amanda seyfried not Megan.

Settle down there geekboys.

Megan Fox 'Buffy' Rumor a Load of Bull Crap

I'm not even going to cite the source because this rumor is so ridiculous and obviously "made up" (if you only saw their other so-called scoops that went along with this), but apparently a bunch of other legitimate websites have already started picking up on the story. So here it is, we checked in with the producers of the forthcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer remake who tells us that the rumors floating around the web about Megan Fox being in talks/cast as the new Buffy are 100% bogus, made-up, bull crap. How about they write a script first? The best part is I e-mailed the website last night and informed them of their bogus story, to which they ignored and left up. Looking for hits, eh?

Forgot to add the site, it's from bloody disgusting and they're pretty good with horror related news.

But yeah, this isn't a type of thing for her.

This is just horrifying. Why can't they involve Whedon?! They could even do a film about another slayer, either in the past or one of the new potentials, if they didn't want Gellar to star.

ugh.
