A Buffy the vampire slayer reboot movie?!

No but I like Willa. She was great in Garden Party and on The OC

Edit: As I looked up more of her work I realized that she was also on Gossip Girl. I did not know that.

Really?! I didn't know that either. I don't really like that show although Leighton Meester is a goodess.

I liked The OC which Willa was on (although I was dissinchanted by it by the time she showed up) she was a pretty decent actor. She would be a good B. actually. hmm...

She has the whole "California chick" attitude down as well, something Buffy definitley needs.

I was looking at some pictures of Willa just now and wow...! She looks just like Sarah! I was blown away. She def has my approval visually especially.

Warner Bros Reboots 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' With Script from Whit Anderson

By NIKKI FINKE | Monday November 22, 2010 @ 12:15pm PST

Atlas Entertainment is announcing today it is rebooting Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Warner Bros Pictures. Atlas’ Charles Roven and Steve Alexander will produce the feature film alongside Doug Davison and Roy Lee of Vertigo EntertainmentBros. Whit Anderson is writing the script after he approached Roven and others with an idea how to update Buffy. "While this is not your high school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be,” an insider says.

Warner Bros Pictures optioned the rights from creators Fran and Kaz Kuzui, and from Sandollar Productions (Sandy Gallin and Dolly Parton), for Atlas and Vertigo to produce. Buffy the Vampire Slayer first appeared as a film in 1992, subsequently becoming a cult hit and spawning the TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz. Whit Anderson is represented by CAA, Wirehouse Entertainment and Julian Zajfen at Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert-Lurie & Stifflemen.

It sounds like they're totally misinterpreting what made Buffy a big hit with fans in the first place. Instead, they're just banking off on name recognition.

Heck, the producers are from the ORIGINAL MOVIE so what do they know?

It seems like Warners and Vertigo licenced the film rights from the Kuzuis (like Fox did for the TV series). So I'm sure the Kuzuis will have zero to no involvement in the film, aside from a nice paycheck and an executive producer credit.

I find this offensive. :o:down

why? There have been numerous takes on Zorro, Green Hornet, and Supes/Bats. Whedon's wasn't the first.

I kind of find it refreshing that a female character that isn't from a Bronte novel is deemed interesting enough to be kept updating and adapting.

I dont get how we can get a Buffy reboot but not an actual Buffy movie. Shame.

So who's on Team Angel and who's on Team Spike?:D

Yes it was. He created the character. He wrote the original movie. But it went through a bunch of rewrites.

Anyway, I have to say, I am amped for this. It's going to suck and I am going to enjoy every moment of it.

i am 99% sure that this Buffy will be for the twilight fans. nothing wrong with that i guess since we still have all the DVD's.

The Kuzuis produced and owned the rights to Joss Whedon's 1992 screenplay for the film, which was released by Fox. Whedon later had 20th Century Fox TV licence the rights from the Kuzuis to make the show (which the Kuzuis had no involvement in it and 'Angel' aside from an "executive producer" credit). So Fox TV owns the rights to anticillary characters like Cordelia, Giles, Faith, Spike, Angel, Willow, Dawn, et al. If Vertigo and WB wanted to use these characters, they'd have to licence them from Fox TV directly.

Considering Whedon doesn't want to be involved (as well as the cast members), trying to do a movie spinoff with recast characters would be heresy. I do think Buffy is ripe for exploration outside of Joss Whedon -- after all, we've had reboots of 007, Batman, Superman et al.. The die-hard Whedon fans just don't see the potential it has... it's hypocritical.

Oh god no. I mean, the writer is a die-hard fan of the TV series and it seems she gets the soul of the character. If she can do it in a different setting with new characters as memorable as the TV series' -- I'm all for it.

I love the TV series, and even enjoy parts of the 1992 movie. But it seems like I'm in the vast minority who likes this news so far. Get the right director and star for the reboot, I'm in 100%.

My bad. I thought he left the project before it was filmed which is why he doesn't own the character.

He doesn't own the character because, often times, selling the rights is the only way to get a movie made.

Oh okay. That blows.

It's okay. We have milk and cookies on our side of the room.

Here is the full press release. Not too different than what was posted in the previous article. But they seem to think we are eagerly awaiting this movie.

FOR IMMEDIATE TELEASE
WARNER BROS. PICTURES SHOWS ITS FANGS WITH A “BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER” REBOOT
LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 11, 2010 –

Atlas Entertainment announced today it is rebooting the beloved franchise, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Warner Bros. Pictures. Atlas’ Charles Roven and Steve Alexander will produce the feature film alongside Doug Davison and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment (The Ring, How to Train Your Dragon, The Departed). Whit Anderson is writing the script.

Warner Bros. Pictures optioned the rights from creators Fran and Kaz Kuzui, and from Sandollar Productions (Sandy Gallin and Dolly Parton), for Atlas and Vertigo to produce. Buffy the Vampire Slayer first appeared as a film in 1992, subsequently becoming a cult hit and spawning the wildly popular television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz, among many others.

“Whit approached us with an exciting idea about how to update Buffy,” said Roven. “There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character’s return to the big screen. We’re thrilled to team up with Doug and Roy on a re-imagining of Buffy and the world she inhabits. Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be.”

Whit Anderson is represented by CAA, Wirehouse Entertainment and Julian Zajfen at Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert-Lurie & Stifflemen

Vampire fans aren't necessarily Buffy fans. I give you exhibit A)Twilight. A vast amount of vamp fans do not like Twilight. It is a hit due to the book only. If it had been just an original screenplay Twilight would've died.

Buffy fans are also Whedon fans, Whedon made the Buffy property what it is. As evidenced by the first lackluster movie, no Whedon no success.

I see them gambling hard using the Buffy name as a crutch to bet on success.

So it's actually a remake of the butchered movie, not the TV show (Fran and Kaz Kuzui don't own the rights to the series or its characters). So no Willow, Giles, Spike, Xander, Anya, Sunnydale, etc. Someone really needs the money...

This is like making a Seinfeld movie but without the involvement of Seinfeld or Larry David and the characters Kramer, George and Elaine aren't even in it due to copyright issues. Hell, it's like making Batman but without Alfred, Gordon, the Joker, Gotham, etc...

Whedon and SMG made the Buffy character what she is. Without them, there is no Buffy. End of story.
