A Buffy the vampire slayer reboot movie?!

This is like making a Seinfeld movie but without the involvement of Seinfeld or Larry David and the characters Kramer, George and Elaine aren't even in it due to copyright issues. Hell, it's like making Batman but without Alfred, Gordon, the Joker, Gotham, etc...

Feels more like making a GL movie about Alan Scott instead of Hal Jordan. All the cool stuff/fandom/stories are with the second version but there is another version out there for interpretation.

Read the interview with Whit Anderson, her comments give me hope that she knows what she's doing:

Fandoms can be so vicious at times, especially the Whedonverse one. There's always room for interpretation, even Buffy.

I'm happy if Buffy becomes one of those characters that gets reinterpreted for new generations.

Whedon and SMG made the Buffy character what she is. Without them, there is no Buffy. End of story.

agree

unless they want to bring the cast from the tv show back, then there is absolutely no need for a reboot movie. if anything, we still need an Angel movie to get better closure after the stupid idiots at CW decided not to renew the show. and in my opinion, the final season was the best one and things were moving around nicely. adding Spike to the show was great

I think the time has passed for a Joss-directed Buffy movie with the original cast members. David Boreanaz and James Marsters are noticeably older, SMG is off raising her kid, and Alyson Hannigan is busy with her sitcom and raising her kid.

Sadly, I agree with Mclay, but I'd rather the story just be continued with that version like in the comics, than some new idiots coming in and screwing things up.

I am wholeheartedly opposed to this.

A. No cast from the show

B. No Joss.

I agree that the cast is too old now to do it, so just leave it to the comics. Kthnxbai

Joss Whedon reacts to E! Entertainment:
This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths — just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, "Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER." Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, "I'll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!" Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?

I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can't wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie. Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for 'The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto,' rebooting into a theater near you.

Leave me to my pain!

Sincerely, Joss Whedon.

David looks a lot better now then he did when he did Angel. And dye Marsters hair blonde again and he would look younger than he does now. He always looks older with the brown hair.

I do get the negativity from Joss Whedon's fans (as well as the cast members), and I do understand it as a fan. But I see this reboot as something exciting -- Buffy is an icon that is bigger than Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kristy Swanson or Joss Whedon. I'd love to see a different interpretation if the actress can bring it.

Let's say if a great actress and a great director who understood and appreciated what went before it -- would it change your minds about the reboot? Anyone?

*crickets chirp*

The thing is, I can't see that happening. This OBVIOUSLY is nothing more than a cheap attempt to cash in on a popular character because of the Twilight craze.

I see them getting a ****** to mediocre actress, a no-name director, a no-name supporting cast and the movie will just be nowhere near close to touching the TV series.

Heather Morris for Buffy! :awesome:

:oldrazz:

Why so serious?

I'll get upset when they give me a reason to. You're getting irritated off speculation in your own mind.

So far we have a passionate writer and a producer Charles Roven.

When Deadline says the casting list is Blake Lively or a playboy model then I'll get upset.

If it ends up looking decent I'll check it out. And if it looks like crap I'll avoid it.

At least I will always have my Buffy and Angel DVD's to enjoy. :awesome:

They need to make Buffy bisexual and have hot bisexual sex.

The movie needs to be 12 minutes as well since thats all the time Ill need.

Hopefully it captures the same magic as the series and balances comedy and action as well as the series did.

Produced by Charles Roven, the man who brought us such classics as Cadillac Man, Scooby-Doo 1 & 2 and Rollerball (sometimes I think he just provided the coffee for 12 Monkeys and Begins/TDK), and written by a failed actress who didn't watch much television but was a fan of the show. Sounds like a winner.

It doesn't matter how good or bad it is, really; I will not see this. Instead, I will see The Avengers twice--or buy two of whatever Whedon product exists in closest proximity to the release.

I can see this being in development Hell for a while. I can see WB getting cold feet.

I don't agree with that at all that Buffy is a character that's bigger than the actress. No offense to Kristy Swanson or to which ever girl ends up playing the character in a reboot, but SMG is, was, and will always be Buffy.

I mean, if they have to start from scratch (No Willow, Angel, Spike, etc), then this is just a bad idea unless they get a damn great director.

It's like remaking the X-Files into a new movie franchise, and not have Fox and Scully. Sure, the premise will be the same, but that's not what made the original show good in the first place: It was David and Gillian, and their characters.

My memory's a little hazy but the TV series was a separate continuity to the movies was it not? In that case I guess you could just do a straight up reboot with different universe.

You can, but the part of Buffy's success in the first place was because of the TV show.

To me, this is one of those situations where, just because you can do it, the question is 'should' you do it.

For example, if David Fincher is going to remake 'The Godfather', in theory, it could be a great movie. But should he do it, that's the question. In that equation, there is no real answer, I think.

The TV series and the original movie are in the same universe. Just small things got changed for the series. Buffy references the events of the movie in the first episode.

This will be the Twilight version of Buffy, the studio is after that audience!

Which is funny considering alot of what Meyer did with Bella and Edward was done much better already by Whedon with Buffy and Angel.
