A Buffy the vampire slayer reboot movie?!

I don't agree with that at all that Buffy is a character that's bigger than the actress. No offense to Kristy Swanson or to which ever girl ends up playing the character in a reboot, but SMG is, was, and will always be Buffy.

I'm sure the same 40 somethings said that about Charlie's Angels movie and Jaclyn Smith, Farrah, and what's her face. I'm sure if the new series makes it, it'll be the same calls of not being the same. Or Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible in relation to the show.

It's not supposed to be.

I'm sure there are better versions of Sherlock Holmes than others, but that doesn't stop them from reusing the character. We have two versions going on at the same time right now that couldn't be more different.

Which is funny considering alot of what Meyer did with Bella and Edward was done much better already by Whedon with Buffy and Angel.
yeah seriously, i was watching a first season episode a few weeks ago, and i realized how much twilight was ripping off the way buffy and angel met, except buffy had a personality, and a lick sense seeing as how she realized right away how creepy angel was being.

Why can't they just do a movie sequel to the TV Show by Wheadon? I love that show!

Did it ever occur to fans that maybe most of the cast members have moved on? Geller specifically seems much more devoted to being a mother than acting. Freddie's 24 money will keep them going til he gets another gig (and he will!).

This reminds me of how Bryan Singer wants to remake Battlestar Galatica into a movie...but based on the original series not the newer, more popular one. BOMB.

I'd rather a Angel movie than a Buffy movie. The way Angel ended, it opened it up for a massive epic story that could have put Buffy and Angel together in a great movie....but instead we got a comic series to continue it.

Weren't they trying to bring Buffy back as a TV show with the chick from High School musical as the new slayer...and with Gellar as the trainer. Kinda like the new Nikita series.

Especially when they broke up, because the writers had enough sense to realize that a relationship like that doesn't work.

I hardly believe that the new BSG is more popular than the old one. The old one had 30 million viewers. The reboot was a niche product (and also not very good ).

That said, I tend to stay away from everything Joss Whedon does.

Joss Whedon had nothing to do with the new BSG. It was run by Ronald Moore.

the new BSG was a big hit and refueled the franchise.

< 2.8 (1.8 in the end) million viewers on average is not a big hit, don't confuse the fanboy orgasms with mainstream success. In that department the old BSG is way ahead of the "re-imagining".

Except these were totally new charecters just used in the same concept. And the original shows history was still intact so it wasnt a reboot persay.

And charecters like Batman, Superman, Sherlock Holmes have been played by so many actors over the years that people are used to it. It would kind of be like trying to do a I Love Lucy reboot, it hasnt been done before and the charecters havent been played by multiple actors throughout the years. But since Buffy is still so fresh, that is probably why a lot of us are up in arms about this. But if they find a good actress and a good story I am willing to check it out with an open mind. Just like I would be open to a Xena reboot if they found the right cast.

I don't mind a 'reboot' but I just have a feeling that, in this case, it's just exploiting the name sake for some $$$.

True about the shows.

So you're saying that the only thing seperating Buffy from Sherlock etc is that we are used to them being recast? Gotta start sometime!lol

People were up in arms about Kirk and crew and that was 40 years old ,though the Trek brand had only been off air like 5 years., cause Shatner was so iconic to the role.

I fully understand being up in arms but to say we can't have Buffy without Whedon is crazy to me. I think Buffy's character/mythology is strong enough to be reinterpreted continually instead of falling to the wayside like The Green Hornet or Shadow to be adapted every 40 years. Of course, I personally would have waited til he was an old man or done an Insert Name:The Vampire Slayer vague continuity cause I loved the show and respect Whedon.

I think is more whether the character needs rebooting. This isn't like Star Trek or Batman or Bond where the franchises were in serious trouble and needed a fresh start, Buffy finished on a high note (of sorts). As someone pointed out this seems more like just making a Buffy movie for the sake of it, and I think fans won't have a bar of it. I think if the studio is expecting the Whedon fans to simply jump on board they've got another think coming.

Yeah, it's just feels like a cash-in THAN an actual love for Buffy. In fact, it's feels too obvious.

^ Yep it totally feels like a money grab, I think it's naive to think that isn't one of the driving factors.

The only thing that bugs me about the reboot news is that Joss won't be involved.

If he was my doubts wouldn't be so big.
