    It's so weird. I just had this conversation with someone (speaking seriously), but they actually raised the issue of 'y' not being a vowel. I told him I only heard it when I moved to America, and he said the same... he wasn't familiar with it before, and he used to live in Ireland.

    there is a subtle difference. the c sound is missing from one.
