Fantasy A Harry Potter series for HBO?

Until JoAnne is dead, you really, really, really don't.
I'm sure her estate will forbid unless it pushed a transphobic or racist narrative... Looks at the Hogwarts game.

Hmm I haven't seen the Harry Potter (1-8) films since maybe mid-2010s. I think I'd just rewatch those rather than this...

Fantastic Beasts bugged me with let's just give you a hint of American Wizardry, but then it revealed how ignorant JK Rowling was of American History.
Well what is she not ignorant of. Maybe we can have a show about that :o .

Weird. Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire were the best ones lol

The first two look great, but by the numbers. When you’re dealing with kid actors that young though, you can’t move the camera around much.

People crap on Goblet of Fire all the time but I think it's in the top four better half of the series. That whole graveyard scene and Harry bringing Cedric back are some of the best scenes in the whole franchise. Plus you've got the late great Dame Maggie Smith with her foot on the sass pedal and no brakes.

GoF is my fave, actually the only one I own lol. There was definitely a magic and wonder that those first four films had that was missing in the rest imo.

My main issue with the HP films were how everything since Azkaban looked the same to me.
Even though I thought the last four movies were good to varying degrees, Yates was a boring choice to direct them.

I somehow missed this thread! here are the latest posts I made in the book thread

Very much agreed!
The last 4 films (all directed by David Yates) were very bland and sorely lacked the sense of magic and wonders that the first 4 films had.

Yeah and I get that after GoF things are meant to get darker but those last films just weren’t it for me.

I think people expecting this series to be a 1:1 adaptation with all their favorite book scenes cut from the movies finally realized will be in for a surprise lol

I didn’t like PoA and GoF when I was little because I felt like they cut out too much stuff but those two are definitely the best and also the most competently made for me. I really love GoF’s whole aesthetic, vibe, and score. The hair is the only unfortunate thing about that one :meanie:. That and the fact that the other schools were randomly segregated by gender. That was stupid. Really dislike that Yates’ dull direction and aesthetic are all over 7 of these goddamn movies. Like not to be too mean to him but he really is dull as dishwater as a director.

As for the show, I just… really couldn’t care less.
