Fantasy A Harry Potter series for HBO?

I’ve been rereading the books and they really only left out stuff that wasn’t important IMO. I’ll watch the show but this is the definition of unnecessary.
It's been a long time since I read the books but I remember there being a lot left out of the fifth and sixth movies, which is understandable since Order of the Phoenix is over 800 pages and Half Blood Prince is over 600.

One of the things I really hope they focus on are the dynamics and characters in the other three houses. The movies, rightfully so, focused on Gryffindor, but a series should have more than enough room to flesh out the other houses.

The problem with the books, especially the later ones, is they're stuffed with a lot of fluff. It adds some color, but not enough to justify the length. POA is basically the pinnacle. And it was all downhill from there.

My biggest problem with this....

I'll likely be nearing 50 by the time they would wrap up the series. That's just wrong.

Right? This is what I've been saying for a while about this franchise.
The author made the other three houses almost non existent compared to Gryffindor.
I've been thinking...instead of making Hermione (or Luna, for example)...from Gryffindor, I prefer her to be either from Ravenclaw or Huttlepuff. And don't make all of Slytherin students looks like the "hahahaha" ultimate bad guys all the time. It would make the dynamic even more interesting,imo...if there is one slytherin student in Harry's circle, instead making all of them comes from Gryffindor.

It is like in Super Sentai/Power Rangers..if all the 5 members/rangers are all sharing the same trait as the red, for example...it would be incredibly boring with no diversity in characterization.

But it is what it is...and this is why I don't really regard this franchise as highly as others.

This is kind of where I'm at. I'm thinking it's not going to be the huge win Max thinks it will be.

And thats the thinking of someone who thinks that there shouldn't be one Hero house.

Which is not the author.

It is funny that J.K. Rowling made all Harry's circle were coming from Gryffindor house. All of them are seen as the noble and heroic characters! And yet..when looks at some of them, particularly Sirius and James Potter...with the bully characters that they had, I think they should belong to Slytherin lol...haha. while Snape had been depicted as selfless despite coming from the supposedly "evil" house.

Happily looking forward to this! Hopefully they deep dive into all the characters and storylines that the films barely touched. This is a huge win for Potterheads everywhere. And the best news is that JKR is onboard and shepherding this, not as a writer, but as an executive producer. I still think she needs to get back to writing novels and expanding the Wizarding World universe.

Fantastic Beasts says otherwise.

Even aside from the controversies, I have no interest in seeing the exact same stories I've already seen. Even with LOTR they knew enough not just to retell Frodo's story again.

She's going to go all 50 Shades author, isn't she.

Honestly, I really think it's unfair people online are bad-mouthing Harry Potter as a franchise just because Rowling's a dumbass TERF. Her politics in that regard have nothing to do with that series, so why can't people stop trying to be revisionist and say "It was always bad". Particularly on Twitter. And saying that "you shouldn't buy anything HP/WW-related because Rowling gets all the money" is bull****. She's already rich and it's not like she's funding an Auschwitz for trans people (no such thing exists and it'd be considered a crime against humanity is anyone DID build it). You can be angry with her and not support her work all you want (I do not blame the trans community for being angry with her), but this Kyle Broflovsky-esque persecution complex over her is getting beyond ridiculous (I DO blame Jim Stephanie Sterling for this. THEY'RE partly to blame for that Hogwarts Legacy harassment campaign a year ago).

People are allowed to enjoy Harry Potter and still be upset with Rowling. Just because you enjoy something someone made does not mean you subscribe to their own personal beliefs. And as for this show, I'll say what I said on Twitter about it: I subscribe to MAX and I will give the show a chance ON ITS OWN MERRITS. And I will NOT stand for any cast or crew to be harassed over being involved. But know this: ANY trans/homophobia crap snuck into the show? I'm gone. Especially if they try and do something like make Voldemort or even a minor villain like Professor Quirrell trans. That's giving a REALLY bad message and it's gonna KILL that show and do serious damage to the HP franchise.

I hope that's a fair stance.

I'm sure some hardcore book fans are excited for this, but I was part of the potter generation back in the 2000s and I just can't see those roles and movies ever being topped. Which is why I'd much rather see new stories told in that world, but have it actually be intersesting unlike fantastic beasts.

I feel the same way mostly, as I myself am from that generation. But I'll keep an open mind as to who gets cast. Plus, there's a LOT from the books the movies left out for time purposes.

Anyone even going to comment on this or do y'all just not care?

How is Francesca Gardiner a Succession writer? She doesn't have a single writing credit on that show. Elsewhere she is listed as a producer but from what I've checked she's not even that technically.

Correction: She PRODUCED for Succession. She WROTE for His Dark Materials.
