Yeah it's not gonna be the one thing that "saves" Just like Mando isn't the single thing that "saved" or holds up Disney+ or Stranger Things is the main thing that holds up Disney+I don’t think anyone here believes a Potter series will singlehandedly “save” HBO Max.
I don't think it's necessarily a dumb move to sign the rights away, but I get what your saying
Yeah that's my understanding of it tooDumb was a little harsh. But she essentially has WB by the balls. My understanding of the way their agreement works (and I’d speaking very broadly here) is that unless they convince her otherwise, if she doesn’t want something to happen, it doesn’t happen. So that gives her a lot of leverage
I think down the line there is still hope they'll do a direct sequel where the gang are older, so I can't see them dumping Emma Watson of all people to recast. You guys think they’ll go for Black Hermione if they do reboot the original books?
idk probably. I've even seen some fanart now that depicts her as black. You guys think they’ll go for Black Hermione if they do reboot the original books?
I'd agree that making Hermione black was too on the nose to some degree, as I don't think it was necessary to throw that in with the mudblood slur. Then again Cursed Child didn't have to own that problem in anyway conveniently.idk probably. I've even seen some fanart now that depicts her as black.
I never saw her as black personally. I actually don't like the idea of her being black because I feel it adds an extra unnecessary layer to the whole Mudblood, pureblood analogy. But if they're gonna do it, they're gonna do it
If they wanted to change anyone's race, I'd make it Harry. But again I don't really care either way.
I think a bigger thing regarding race or ethnicity with Wizarding World is with these new Fantastic Beast movies they're going to Paris, Brazil, etc. and they aren't really doing anything with the people of those cities/countries.
I could be wrong, but I barely remember any important French characters or actors in FB2. I think there were only 2. And now looking at the cast list for FB3, there don't seem be any important characters being played by Brazilian or even South American performers.
I personally don't think that's racist, but similar to how they did Zoe Kravitz and the whole weird Nagani thing, the optics are a bit weird. Especially after they were kinda puffing out their chests about making Herimione black in Cursed Child.

Oh yeah it makes sense. It's just that I don't think that extra layer in necessary. But that's meI don’t like or dislike it. I don’t picture Hermione as black in my head, but it makes sense to me to have a woman of color portray a woman being persecuted because by the “elites” of society because of circumstances completely out of her control.

You can do whatever you like, just like anyone else here. But your post here? It downplayed not only Rowling's transphobia, but transphobia in general. Ignoring not only how painful it is, but how JK Rowling and her transphobia is actually effecting the lives of British trans people, because it is being used to influence and shape law. What she has preached and championed being used to strip rights from human beings simply for being who they are.On the Rowling issue, I just want to say this: I really don't think people should be throwing HP and the Wizarding World stuff to the curb over really stupid behavior from its creator that has little to nothing to do with it. People still love Rosemary's Baby as a movie despite what Roman Polanski did, and what he did was WAY worse than some stupid transphobic comment.
I completely understand why the Trans community is angry with her. They have every right to be and I won't say otherwise. They don't wanna support HP anymore, that's THEIR choice. But for everyone else, myself Included, I don't want to see such an otherwise beloved and wonderful franchise be treated like **** and not recommended anymore because of unrelated bull**** like this! It's unfair and people should be allowed to enjoy it as they damn well please!
And YES, I WILL be going to the NYC store when it opens later this year, go see Cursed Child again with my mom once it re-opens (I promised I'd take her as she got me into this series), and yeah, giving the upcoming PS5 game and last 3 Fantastic Beasts a chance despite all this nonsense. If you don't like that, then that's YOUR problem, not MINE! I love Harry Potter and you can't make me change my ****ing mind on that, despite the creator being an ungodly idiot at the moment who needs to ****ing apologize!

The part I bolded in your post reads very much like trans folk need to go off in a corner and just not pay attention to HP anymore, while others enjoy it. It's so wrong on so many levels, but most specially it neglects that the trans community battle, is not theirs alone, just like the civil rights movement and gay rights were not only the battles of minorities and the gay/lesbian community.
I still love Harry Potter. I will eventually play the game and watch any television show they produce. The same will apply to many trans people. I will also continue to support the trans community. Do you know what I am not going to do? I am not going to stand on a soap box shouting loudly about how much I love and support Harry Potter and that if it were be brought down by people reacting to JK Rowling's vicious bigotry, it would somehow be a tragedy. Because I have far more love and respect for my fellow human beings then a ****ing book series.
It would be a monumental shame for HP to be locked away and forgotten but ultimately I get it. I follow trans activists like Paris Lees on social media and I can see how much pain JK has caused to people. I am angry myself over it because Trans as an issue is something I've read about for a long time, and it annoyed me to see JK hide behind tired tropes in her essay from last summer. There is no ethical consumption. Everyone's tolerance is different.
I don't see anyone saying that the original books and movies need to be burned away from the public consciosness. Just that maybe, that is enough. She doesn't deserve anymore money or support. Or, perhaps the most likely, given they way she tripled down when faced with criticism, worry about what she will try to put in future projects.
