Inhumans ABC's The Inhumans - General Discussion (news, updates, speculation...) - Part 1

I don't know anything about the Inhumans, and being a comic nerd, I haven't seen anything at all to get me interested with the exception of a solid cast. What do you think that says for the general audience? That's not a good sign, at all.

Compare this cosplay to.......

:mnm::sh: :shock

I don't understand why Marvel insisted on not giving the Inhumans their costumes, and made them seemed like bored people with special powers. Yes yes, I know that they don't have secret identities blah blah, but they have a chance to make it interesting and not just Game of Thrones in Space, which it appears to be what they're aiming at. If this series fails, maybe they will get a new showrunner like they did with Iron Fist season 2.

She's the only one.

I don't know how you can agree Crystal's costume isn't unfaithful and not also find Karnak's costume to be accurate:

Actually, I noticed that they actually did a decent job of matching color scheme. Karnak has moved away from green, but this at least has hints of olive. Gorgon has brown highlights. Crystal is yellow and Medusa purple. Black Bolt is obviously black and silver. As much as people like suggesting that they're wearing Bryan Singer black, they're really not. If I have time, I'll point out the Gorgon stuff.

They could've given Karnak a big head. He's an Inhuman after all. Maybe Scott Buck thought any Inhumans looking inhuman would not be believable.

That would require them more effort and you know this is Marvel TV...

Heck, they were even too lazy to shave his head.

i do think that costume department has failed a bit... but the level to which people complain about it is too much, imo.

people somehow, eventually, get over hawkeye, wanda, falcon, thanos in his yoga pants.. but damn, karnak has a normal sized head and fans act like it's a deal breaker (i've seen people complaining about it everywhere).

if (when) this show fails, it will be because of writing/acting/directing...not because the costumes are lazy. there are many great shows that weren't held back by lackluster cgi/outfits.

Yeah, the costumes appear to be the least of this show's problems.

And the costumes suck.

Gorgon has goat hooves. There was another with bug eyes. If those look human, I must have missed something about humanity.

Has anyone posted the set visit article from Slashfilm?

Some quotes:
Lockjaw was one of the characters that made us all very nervous because it needs to be really, really good. We fought in the prep to get the best house to do this, and Double Negative is the best how to do creatures. They’re making Lockjaw for us. It was a really big deal for me to get the best house to do this thing because it needs to be IMAX quality, big scope thing. And it’s huge. If you’re doing a creature that’s kind of flying in the distance or is very small, it’s different. It’s not a big-size dog on the side of the characters.

The style of architecture here is based on early Russian expressionism and brutalist. Those are the two periods that Carlos and I defined as being could be on the moon. The primary building materials are what we’re calling lunar concrete because it’s all stone, there’s no wood, and there’s no water up there. As for the period choices, a part of it is instinctual. It’s just a gut reaction to the script. If you look at concrete building forms throughout the years, brutalism is probably one of the most interesting periods. You know, it was very prevalent in the ’60s, and it’s big and massive pure geometric shapes. We decided to carry that through as a theme. We’ve chosen a particular shape for each one of the sets. The quiet room is based on the circle. The royal hall is based on rectangular shapes. Then the control room is based on equilateral triangles. We’ve kept it distinct.

Why IMAX
IMAX is in 74 countries, has 1,200 screens, and 500 waiting to be opened. According to IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster, their goal is to provide 52 weeks of reliable content. A part of the problem is that studios don’t provide the sort of content suited for IMAX every week. There’s also the fact they don’t open big movies on Labor Day weekend, the first two weeks of December, and end of April. Inhumans is premiering the first week of September, so it’s good timing. But for Foster, the Marvel show also felt right for IMAX

IMAX expects the two episodes in the two-week window to perform better than anything else they could have released. In the past on September 1, they’ve re-released Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Wizard of Oz, and Apollo 13. There usually wasn’t anything from the studios, so something new and something from Marvel naturally appealed to them.

Reiné wanted to educate himself in all things IMAX. He wanted to move the camera differently, perhaps using more handheld camerawork we typically see from IMAX cameras. They showed Reiné some tests and footage, including 10 minutes from Dunkirk, which he took notes from

Using Brutalism as the inspiration for Inhuman architecture is beyond boring.

I realized I posted in the wrong thread for my last post, so I fixed that.

Such hyperbole. literally the only costume missing is Black Bolt's mask. literally everyone else is in costume and blackbolt is 80% in costume

My only complaint is that the CGI for Medusa's hair seems pretty bad, but I guess this is a TV show budget.

I won't even bother watching this ****. Buck needs to stay the hell away from Marvel after this and Iron Fist.

someone from spoilerTV crew saw a pilot, says it's as bad as everyone feared it would be. i love royals in the comics so if this is true, i'm pretty bummed.

Worse than Iron Fist?

''Simply awful. I'm so disappointed since I generally love everything Marvel does. But this is absolutely terrible. The dialogue is atrocious. The fight sequences are shockingly choreographed. The sets (or more-so the obvious green-screen) aren't that crash hot either. It's only saving grace is Lockjaw who is adorable. As one of the few people that actually liked Iron Fist, I can easily say that this is Scott Buck's worst work yet.''

yeap :(

Damn. And this is the thing they choose to put on IMAX screens? They could just film some Agents of SHIELD episodes and put them up there instead.

as ive said before... i could get over the cgi.. but bad writing is something i dont forgive. this had so much potential to be something really special and unique.
a damn shame.

Yikes. Wondering if the $15 for an IMAX ticket will even be worth it at this point
