Was it because he broke the law, or because he was afraid of the media response?

Both.

Cops know they can't shoot unarmed people for any reason.

They need a damn good reason, especially if they shoot someone numerous times in the back.

Am I wrong assuming Tempest is a straight white male. Its a pretty horrible point of view you have Tempest and I hope nothing serious has to happen in your life where it causes you to change your mind..because that will suck

It scares me that we live in a world where I cop can just claim they felt they were in danger, and that is enough for some to say they can shoot someone.

Or a world where video evidence shows a cop shooting an unarmed man in the back, plant a weapon near his dead body and people run to the cops defense.

People are actually sending that scumbag money for his defense fund. That disgust me

The policeman didn't do anything wrong, because cops are sinless good guys. They only shoot dangerous and unrepentant supervillains like Dr. Blackheart and The Baby-eater. I read it in one of my comic books.

But seriously, what the hell is wrong with American cops? This happens too often.

People can hate me all they want, but that whole Carolina thing looks fake as hell! It's a hoax.

Apparently I'm not the only one.

No video is appearing. You possibly embedded it wrong.

Well based on how many people I know who have interacted with police, and who have even been caught doing illegal things have all managed to stay alive, I would guess that running, attacking, or moving in a threatening manner plays a huge role in how things are viewed.

I already said that the officer should never have moved the taser. That was a stupid move on his part.

What I find funny is that you always defend the person who was shot. You don't wait to see what evidence is out there. You just hear "unarmed, shot by officer", and presume the officer was in the wrong.

Now that we've had days of reports that this guy was unarmed and just running away from the officer, we finally hear more info. Like the fact that this was a dead-beat loser who'd been arrested several times before, and who had yet another warrant out. This same guy fled from the officer first chance he got, and when the officer caught him the first time, he struggled and fought.

It makes a difference, and I don't give a damn if the guy was jay walking or had a body stuffed in the trunk of his car. If you act like a suspicious jackass, you're putting your life at risk.

Officers shouldn't have to try to discern whether fleeing means that a person has a minor violation, or whether they are the most evil dirt bag ever. If they attack an officer and then flee, then as far as I'm concerned, take them down. There's no way to know if they're armed. There's no way to tell if they won't attack a civilian in order to keep police at bay.

It's a hard line to draw, but I'm comfortable with that line. Better to be overly cautious and shoot someone who isn't armed than to allow them the chance to hurt someone else.

This is some of the dumbest crap I've ever heard a human being spew. I'm not going to bother to explain why or provide counter arguments because frankly I don't feel you deserve that courtesy.

You can't be serious, so they fired a cop and put him in jail for hoax? That makes no f***ing sense. I swear some people just refuse to believe not everybody with a badge is a hero

Sheriff's Deputies Caught on Camera Beating Suspected Horse Thief

An alleged horse thief went down in a swarm of San Bernardino Sheriff's deputies Thursday while an NBC helicopter captured the brutal scene from above.

NBC reports the cops began chasing the man when he fled the scene of a search warrant—apparently in a Dodge minivan. Eventually he abandoned the car and continued his escape on stolen horseback.

Officers were eventually able to tase him off the horse—and thus commenced a two-minute beatdown so large some officers had to step back to let other officers get a chance to hit and kick the man.

The group surrounding the man grew up to five sheriff's deputies as several appeared to kick, hit, and punch him dozens of times over a two-minute period. In the two minutes after the man was stunned with a Taser, it appeared deputies kicked him 12 times and punched him 29 times. Eleven blows appeared to be to the head as seen from aerial footage. The allegedly stolen horse stood idly nearby.

After the frenzy subsided, the man reportedly lay still, without any medical attention, for more than half an hour. A sheriff's spokesperson tells NBC two officers were treated for dehydration and one may have been kicked by the horse.

Vid at the link. The man did nothing to deserve this beatdown, what was the point once he was tazed? This is just another instance of people with badges doing whatever the hell they want

Virginia Cop Blasts Teen in Car With Pepper Spray, Fires Taser Twice

In cell phone video taken by a Virginia Beach teen from inside her car, a second teen in the backseat of the vehicle can be seen screaming in pain as a police officer uses pepper spray and fires his Taser twice.

The video was recorded from an alleged traffic stop outside of the home of Courtney Griffith this past January, when police, claiming to smell marijuana in Griffith's car, asked Brandon Wyne to exit the car from the backseat. When he refused to step out of the vehicle until his mother arrived, an officer used his pepper spray before threatening to fire his Taser. "I'm 17-years-old!" Wyne can be heard shouting repeatedly as the cop blasts his face with pepper spray. The officer then deploys his Taser on the teen twice.

After Wyne gets out of the car, an officer can be seen inspecting Griffith's car, and appears to end the video's recording. Griffith claims the officers tried to delete the video off her phone. "I asked him, 'Who deleted my video?' And they all started laughing," she told WVEC. She was apparently able to recover the video from her phone's "recently deleted" folder.

According to the Daily Press, the officer depicted in Griffith's video using the pepper spray and firing the Taser has since been placed on administrative leave after authorities were alerted to the video this week. An internal investigation is reportedly underway.

Wyne was charged by police with assault and battery, obstruction of justice, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and is apparently still in juvenile detention.

I know from personal experience that cops can be downright evil SOB's. A friend of mine while growing up got into a relationship with the local school's DARE cop. Nobody knew about it until she happened to get pregnant, at 13! Later on as there was an investigation going on, it was revealed that he was also selling drugs to minors on the side, and he was supposed to be the freaking D.A.R.E cop.

I doubt this guy is even a cop, he's probably an actor playing a cop. It's all a bunch of hogwash. Makes me wonder if Ferguson and James Garner also might have been a hoax, something started by the higher ups to cause racial tensions amongst the people. The country is going down the crapper, run by the most horrible people in Congress, and what better way to keep the people from rebelling against it then by making sure they are using all of their energy fighting amongst themselves. Divide and conquer is their game.

Sorry bro but I much prefer Occam's Razor over inane and overly convoluted conspiracy theories that make no sense.

lol wut, seriously?

I'll tell you this much, not many actors I know would commit to the role of ex-cop in prison for gunning down a black guy for 25 to life. He must have so much money on his books with which to buy overprived ramen noodles and candy bars

That police in Carolina was wrong. Definitely murder. But I have to say in the video in this link......not so sure. What was the police suppose to do? Dude wouldn't comply with orders. When the officer asked him to get out, he swiped the officer's hand off of him. Was the officer wrong to pepper spray him? Sure but those kids look like the bratty type that have their way in everything in life and almost wanted trouble. And there was drugs involved as well. I can honestly see both sides of it and I think this case is in the gray area.

On a different note DJ Kidd, I'm surprised you didn't post the video of Thabo getting arrested in NYC which resulted in a broken leg, allegedly coming from a police baton. It's all on tape and the NBPA is planning on pursuing action against the police department.

Feel free to post any kind of abuse of power in this thread, everyone is welcome to contribute. I don't catch every story from my sources but I do my best. Also don't want people thinking this is just for cops, it's for any abuse of power including but not limited to cops, governments of the world, corporations, and private individuals taking advantage of others.

As far as that other vid goes with the kids yes the dumbass kids should have complied with the officer and it was obvious that they didn't want to becuae of drugs but the officer still abused his power by using pepper spray and tazing the kid twice, I'm pretty sure they would have complied after being pepper sprayed had they been given a chance. Also the big abuse of power here is them taking the cell phone and deleting the video, that right there shows the cop thought he had something to hide.

The tazing part was taking it to far but the pepper spray............I get it. They were looking for trouble. Sad part is they will end up suing and winning. Being a good cop these days have to be tough. They see and go through things we'd probably never understand but that doesn't justify some of the things they put people through.

Anyway, here's the video of Thabo getting arrested:

Russia Is Outlawing Celebrity Memes

v0byyomb2gzciam0dq2c.jpg

Russia likes outlawing things. Last year, they got rid of cussing in all forms of media, and even did away with any film that “threatened national unity.” With such unchecked restrictions on freedom of expression, it was only a matter of time before they came for our memes.

According to Roskomnadzor and spotted by Global Voices, it’s now illegal to use a celebrity in a meme that has nothing to do with that celebrity—meaning basically every celebrity meme ever made.

So why the sudden meme-ageddon? Supposedly it’s all because of this thing:

fdf0ea7yztndz48vmnto.jpg

So that’s Russian singer Valeri Syutkin, whose songs are all about romance. Kind of like the Nicholas Sparks of romantic Russian ballads. But “BBPE,” according to Global Voices’ Kevin Rothrock, is an acronym of the phrase “Bei Babu po Ebalu” meaning “Smack the B**** in the Face” from a 2005 song with famously derisive lyrics. I won’t pretend to understand Russian humor, but clearly the jarring juxtaposition is the joke.

But the Kremlin isn’t laughing, a court ruled in Moscow that the meme damaged Syutkin’s privacy, which prompted the Kremlin to supposedly pass the law. Here’s the specific language per Google Translate:

Violation of legislation on personal data in relation to public figures includes...Use the photo as a public person impersonation popular Internet meme, unrelated to the identity of “celebrity.” The methods of processing of personal data violate the requirements of the legislation on personal data and defaming the honor, dignity and business reputation of the public persons. Roscomnadzor refers to the administration of resources with the demand to remove illegal information, if it does not - to sue.

But it’s possible—and likely—there is more going on beneath the surface, because memes have often been used to voice political dissent. Last year, memes used during the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests were able to sneak by national censors in China. So really restricting memes by protecting “privacy” is really only part of the conversation, if really even the conversation at all. This one example could attack of whole swatch of image-based online humor and even outlaw political memes, such as the very popular Putin Riding a _____ meme.

One of the best ways to respond to such obvious freedom of speech restrictions is with a meme of your own.

http://globalvoicesonline.org/2015/04/10/russia-the-kremlin-declares-war-on-memes/

Russia sounds like a horrible place to live

If there is any humor to be found, I saw a post elsewhere that made me chuckle.

"Stop or I'll shoot!!!!" has been replaced by, "Stop, or I'll watch you avoid arrest!"

:hehe:
