Abuse of Power Thread (Cops, Governments, Etc.) - Part 2

Where is that Republican outrage about illegal drug imports coming from cops?

The goat story is just so, so ****ed up.

Sue them to the ground.

Has to be embarassing to be the Chief and still not know the law...

I don’t know anything about the LA police chief or the context of his tweet. But the content of the tweet is a link to an article called “A Word to Protesters: Heckling Isn’t Free Speed” by an exec. VP of FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression) — a pro-free speech organization. I.e., though the chief (presumably) agrees with the article, he didn’t write it or give it its title. The twitter comments (universally negative, as far as I could see) seemed to assume that the chief was offering a pithy and uninformed edict on heckling. No one commented on the article (either pro or con). From which I infer that no one actually read the article.

The article, itself, takes on the issue of one person’s right to speech and another’s right to protest that speech. And the central question is whether the so-called “heckler’s veto” is, itself, protected speech or actually deprives another of their protected speech. It’s an interesting and nuanced subject. And, needless to say, Twitter is the wrong forum for nuance.

The GOP-- who are these people? Don't they remember what Democracy is?

Yeah, good luck finding a prosecutor who thinks they can get a conviction in that case.

His take away about murdering journalists and lynching black people is "your recording of my racist comments is illegal" is not the take away I would go with, but I'm not a racist sheriff.
