For my entire 40 plus years the GOP and the conservative/evangelical/libertarians of this country screamed about both states' rights and the need for strong second amendment protections because the mask would soon come off and we would all be victims of the tyranny of the Federal Government that had to be fought tooth and nail all the way. Anyone who didn't join in this fantasia of righteous rebellion was a fool, compromised or one of the dreaded boogiemen waiting to impose draconian penalties upon the public. Feminists, Socialists, Communists, those who embrace multiculturalism, LGBTQ, the globalists, the Illuminati, the Blacks, the Hispanics, the college kids, the college teachers, the urban professionals... Whatever which one or combo was useful to to scare the ignorant and provincial at the moment.
In the face of actual unmarked and unidentified Federal agents snatching people off the streets though, in light of the POTUS himself using Federal riot police to attack protesters, despite the reality of the coast to coast police freak out we all experienced not long ago where people were fired upon in their homes, journalists were targeted and all this done with premeditation given how uniformly badges and IDs were obscured... All that hasn't moved the needle for those who espoused delusions of black helicopters and the NWO, nor even the garden variety conservative type that made it known loudly and often that they were always so terribly offended by any and all examples of an inhumane Federal Government overstepping its powers and acting outside the rule of law.
Their silence for the time preceding lockdown was damning on its own, especially seeing how the Impeachment process was undermined itself by obstruction of justice, along with a numbing list of other scandals that boil down to "The White House knowingly broke the law on some level but the Republican Party will not allow any accountability.".
However the events of our post-lockdown history should have been the straw to break the camel's back, no? But here we are... Silence. Or worse... Cheerleading.
To them I say, with all offense, your values and principles whether political, social or moral were always obviously hot air and by any ethical light you should apologise to every person you ever got into a political debate or disagreement with for how absolutely disingenuous you've been as an American Conservative or at least someone that reliably espoused all their buzz words and talking points.
Your deeply held beliefs were never anything more than a pose and your silence and lack of outrage or your salivating at possibly having Federal agents impose Marshal Law proves it.
