Superman Returns Addis Ababa: Easter Eggs, homages and deleted scenes

I didn't hear that line either.

And what's Kal-El 8? I mean I know what the Kal-El part is, but what's with the 8?

\8/ means House of EL

wasent there a scene in the trailer after perry says luthor is old news and luthor comes in and says "I THINK NOT" and then there was a scene where perry was thanking superman for saving him

Doesn't Clark play the same song on the piano in Superman III. That the kid plays in SR.

Visit to Krypton. In the novelization they describe it as absolutely brutal, both psychologically and physically to Supes.

If this were in the movie, it would have been more apparent why he was essentially stalking Lois. He felt he had absolutely no one as Superman - and he didn't. But that message didn't come across clearly. The people I saw it with did not pick up on that clearly. They thought Superman was just some love-struck stalker, not the isolated, devasted person he really was. There's a HUGE difference there.

Had the Krypton-visit scene been in the movie, it would have shown why he was so distraught, so alone, so driven to re-kindle with Lois, the one person who understood him as Superman and Kal-El and even Clark. Instead we get one stupid line "That place was a graveyard, I'm all that's left" to set up the entire loneliness thing?

Doesn't cut it, sorry.

That would have been sweet to see. I didn't quite get the pain of his solitary existence in the movie at all. It was mostly, "Awww, he's still in love with Lois. *patpat*."

You are right. Unfortunately, thanks to movies like King Kong and general low attention span in audience today, plus the length limitations of IMAX reels, WB had to massacre the movie in the editing room to bring it down to 2 1/2 hours. The original first hour of the movie was REALLY slow, with just one minute of space action during the Return to Krypton sequence...
Had King Kong with its 3:07 hours performed above expectations (beating records etc.), I bet WB would have left SR 3+ hours long.
When the movie was planned back in 2004, these things were not known. The Lord Of the Rings made tons of money despite its lenght and the idea of a IMAX 3D version came much later, too.

Just MHO.

Kal-El 8's signature. ("It's not easy for me to live my life being who I am...keeping secrets.") I never heard that line at all.

This was in the previous version of the Kent Farm dialogue between Clark and Martha (the one with Ben Hubbard's visit a bit later). It was repalced with the "that place was a graveyard" version of the scene. The two cannot coexist because they are alternatives of the same scene, with completely different moods. You either have the one or the other.

correct me if im worng but wasnt he supposed to conflict his thoughts bout coming back as Superman???

The final scene is the same as the first two films:
Superman flying into outer space at the viewer, then rolling on his back and flying away from the viewer toward the sun.

Wrong!

\S/ is the symbol for the house of El.

\8/ is the Kryptonian letter for the letter S

Smallville the TV series pretty much got it wrong.

when will people learn that u can't look to smallville for faithful superman lore?

So, we all know there are homages to the earlier Superman movies. The rouble is finding them and when they appear......I though we could set up a list of them here and find them when we go to see it again or go see it when we get the DVD (yeah long time to go)

Ill start off with the obvious Title Sequence

merging...soon as I find that other thread

- Saving Kitty's car (homage to Action Comics #1 cover)

- "Statistically speaking, its still the fastest way to travel" (homage to Superman's first meeting with Lois)

- Lois faints (homage to her first reaction to Superman)

- "I Spent the Night with Superman" (the article Lois wrote in STM)

- Marlon Brando as Jor-El

Don't know if anyones mentioned it but did anyone see the picture at the Daily Planet taken of Superman lifting Kitty's car similar to the cover of Action Comics #1?

The "Superman is Dead," "Superman Lives" papers were exactly like the papers seen in the Death and Life of Superman comics (aside from the picture.)

Ok, I think I get it. Thanks to you and to Kal-El8 too.

Was there even a tribute to Chris Reeve after the credits at the end? I left once the credits started to roll.

They get alot wrong. But it is it's own universe, so it technically is right.

It was right after the major players.

My mind keeps telling me there was something on that scrabble board Ma Kent was playing. Can anyone help me out here?

The word "alienation" was there, if that means anything.

The jacket Routh wears on the farm when he throws the ball is the same kind that Reeve wore to the diner in Superman 2.

I think Lex referring to the Prometheus story is a lot like how the Rosenbaum Lex always aludes to historical/fictional figures as well.
